Main Patent No. 382 159 relates to a process for the preparation of organic peroxides of the formula
EMI1.1
in which Ar is an optionally substituted aromatic or hydroaromatic radical, R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, Rt is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, hydrogen or phenyl radical and X is an optionally substituted aromatic or hydroaromatic radical or an alkyl group, by reacting tertiary hydroperoxides with corresponding alcohols in the presence of perchloric acid .
The present invention relates to a further embodiment of the invention defined above.
According to the invention, the process for the production of organic peroxides is characterized in that the tertiary hydroperoxides used are cymene hydroperoxide, diisopropylbenzene mono- and dihydroperoxide, isopropylcyclohexane hydroperoxide, p-menthane hydroperoxide, pinan hydroperoxide, isopropylnaphthalene hydroperoxide, isopropyl naphthalene hydroperoxide, isopropyl-naphthalenehydroperoxide, isopropyl-naphthalenehydroperoxide, isopropyl-naphthalenehydroperoxide, isopropyl-naphthalene-alcohol, isopropyl-naphthalene-alcohol and the alkoxymethyl alcohol isopropyl alcohol, isopropyl naphthalene-butylphenoxide is -p-methylbenzyl alcohol, dimethyl-p-isopropylbenzyl alcohol, a, a'-dihydroxy-p-diisopropylbenzene, 2-cyclohexylpropanol- (2), menthol, pinaol- (1), 2-naphthylpropanol- (2), tertiary pentanol and tertiary Hexanol can be used.
The invention is illustrated below with the aid of a few examples.
Examples
1. Similar to the examples of the main patent, the pinanylcumyl peroxide is prepared from 3670 g of dimethylphenyl carbinol, 210 perchloric acid (60 "/ o) and 3780 g of pinane hydroperoxide (92" / o)) by turning the pinan hydroperoxide at 32 ° C. within The pinan hydroperoxyde content of the reaction mixture is then still 22.2 / o and the pinanylcumyl peroxide content is 33.51 / o (42.4% conversion). The perchloric acid is separated off, the reaction product is neutralized, washed with water, dried and separated in a thin-film evaporator at 70 ° C. and 0.07 torr.
The distillate can be used for a new approach. The bottom product contains 9.2 / o pinane hydroperoxide and 62.1 "/ o pinanylcumyl peroxide. Yield 95%. If the reaction is carried out at 50 ° C., no pinane hydroperoxide remains in the reaction mixture. The yield drops to 85% .
2. One leaves at 30-33 C with stirring to a mixture of 450 dimethylphenylcarbinol and 40 g of perchloric acid (60/0) within 2 hours of 372 g of tert. Butyl hydroperoxide (72.5 "/ o) run in.
After a total of 3 hours, the perchloric acid is separated off, neutralized with 2N soda solution and washed with water. The tert. Butylcumyl peroxide has become 75 / o, based on tert. Butyl hydroperoxide.
It is separated from the volatile constituents in a thin-film evaporator at 80 ° C. and 0.2 Torr and, recrystallized from pentane, has a melting point of +16 ° C. The yield is 87%.
3. While stirring, 424 g of 60.5% p-cymene hydroperoxide are added dropwise at 35 ° C. to a mixture of 480 g of p-methyldimethylbenzyl alcohol (60%) and 30 g of perchloric acid (60%) over a period of 2 hours 3 hours a 48.5% solution of dicymyl peroxide is obtained, which also contains 1.3 "/ o p-cymene-hydroxide peroxide. The reaction product is washed with 2N Soda solution and then with water, dried with sodium sulate and distilled at 105 ° C. and 0.05 torr in a thin-film evaporator. D. the sump contains 75.3% dicymyl peroxide and the distillate7.85% cymol hydroperoxide.
On cooling, colorless crystals of dicymyl peroxide with a melting point of 52-54 ° C are obtained from the bottom product, which crystallize from methanol and melt at 55-56 ° C. The yield is 85.6 / o.
4. 75 g of menthol 99%, produced by reducing p-menthane hydroperoxide with concentrated sodium sulfite solution, and 7 g of perchloric acid (60 "/ o) are added at a reaction temperature of 30 C within 1 hour with 70 g of p- Methane hydroperoxide (98.5%) is added. After a reaction time of 8 hours, the p-menthane hydroperoxide content has fallen to 12.3%. The dimethyl peroxide (12.8% solution, 15% conversion) can then be converted into a thin film evaporator 45% solution which still contains 21.3% p-menthane hydroperoxide.
