Arrangement for treating the scalp to prevent hair loss
For a long time now, cosmetics has been concerned with maintaining a youthful, fresh look in women, in particular with maintaining full head hair in men.
Countless attempts have been made to prevent these phenomena, although they are insignificant from a health point of view, but which change the external appearance more or less strongly.
In the present case, only the age-related, normal, more or less severe head hair loss is subject to consideration, but not the hair loss as a result of various diseases, which must be treated solely for the species.
Attempts have been made since ancient times to the present day to prevent hair loss primarily by using a wide variety of natural and synthetic chemical substances. In recent years - apart from massage and radiation devices that work with the most varied of wavelengths - physical aids have been used to bring the chemical substances better and deeper into the scalp. Apparatuses were constructed that convey the active ingredients into the scalp by alternately generating negative and positive pressure.
Electric current has already been used to introduce electrically chargeable substances into the scalp by means of so-called iontophoresis. One electrode is placed directly on the scalp, at which a voltage of generally over 24 volts, but at least over 12 volts.
However, due to a lack of success, these methods could not prevail. The more recent work of the Nobel Prize winners Ochoa and Kornberg (see Angewandte Chemie, No. 7/8, 1960, pages 225 ff.) Also makes it understandable why chemical treatment methods had to fail to succeed.
The invention now relates to an arrangement for preventing age-related, but not pathological hair loss by treating the scalp using a weak electrical direct current; Furthermore, the arrangement serves to prevent such hair loss or to limit it to a large extent.
The treatment of the human body for health reasons with a weak electrical direct current, which has a current strength of several to one and corresponds in magnitude to the current that acts on the body through an optimal electrical field in nature, is known. For this purpose, electrodes are usually attached to an arm and a leg, which are connected to a direct current source of about 1.5-4.5 volts. In order to achieve a health-promoting effect, this treatment must be extended over at least several hours.
It has now surprisingly been found in experiments that the non-pathological supernormal hair loss can be considerably restricted or completely prevented if a weak direct current is applied to the positive pole of a power source with the help of an electrode placed on the non-hairy forehead of a person Part of the body can act and if it is possible to achieve the highest possible current passage through suitable measures.
According to the present invention, these requirements are met with an arrangement in which a large-area electrode intended to lie on the hairless forehead of a person, connected to the positive pole of a direct current source with a voltage in the order of magnitude of about 1 to 6 volts, and an electrode connected to the Surface of the trunk of the person to be completely or partially wetted liquid immersed, with the negative pole of the power source connected counter electrode are provided.
As tests have shown, when the arrangement according to the invention is used, with which no therapy of pathological phenomena is intended, there are neither any psychological effects nor side effects of any kind.
The front electrode is preferably one that consists of a non-metallic conductor, e.g. B. made of plastic with embedded carbon, is as large as possible and covers the entire non-hairy face. The negative counterelectrode should be as large as possible and preferably consists of a liquid which completely or partially wets the body and in which the second, negative pole of the direct current source is in conductive connection.
This means that if possible the entire trunk should be in a bath, or if not otherwise possible, at least part of the trunk, so that a seat, foot or arm bath then serves as the electrode. In the latter cases the voltage should be increased slightly.
It is essentially important that the current flow is as large as possible at an optimally low voltage. For this purpose, it is also advantageous to wet the electrodes resting on the fuselage with a liquid containing ions, advantageously with aqueous solutions of alkaline earth, in particular magnesium and calcium salts. The concentration of the salt solutions should be around 0.1 to 0.5 normal solution.
In the event that the proposed counter-electrode in the form of a bath in which the trunk is completely or partially immersed cannot be used, a counter-electrode with as large a surface as possible can be applied to the trunk, which for the purpose of the best possible current transfer is also naturally physiologically harmless Liquid is wetted and is placed, for example, on the shoulder or on the back or elsewhere on the body.
In FIGS. 1 and 2 of the drawing, two preferred exemplary embodiments of the arrangement according to the invention are shown.
As can be seen from FIG. 1, the arrangement according to the invention consists of a tub 11 with water into which the trunk of a person is immersed. In the water of the tub 11 is the electrode 12, which z. B. is attached to the inside of the tub wall. It is also possible to use the drain fitting 13 of the tub 11 as the electrode located in the water.
The electrode 12 or 13 is connected to the negative pole 14 of a direct current source 15.
The person in the bathroom wears a head electrode 16 on the hairless forehead, which covers it as completely as possible. The electrode 16, which is preferably made with a magnesium or
Calcium salt solution is wetted, is held by means of a tape 17 on the head. The head electrode 16 is connected to the positive pole 18 of the direct current source 15. Between the two poles 14 and 17 of the direct current source is a voltage of preferably about 3-4 volts. The direct current source 15 can consist of a battery or a device that draws the current from the power supply network, e.g. B. stepped down from 220 volts AC to the desired voltage and then rectified and smoothed. If necessary, several positive connections 17 are provided for different voltages.
According to FIG. 2, the arrangement contains a foot bath instead of the bathtub. The electrode 12 'connected to the negative pole 14' of the direct current source 15 is immersed in a small tub 11 ', in the water of which the person sitting on a steel 19 has put his feet. As in FIG. 1, the head electrode 16 'is placed on the forehead of the head and fastened by means of the tape 17'. The electrodes 12 'and 16' are also applied to the two poles 14 'and 18' of a direct current source of approximately 4-5 volts.
