Es wäre natürlich verlockend, einen hochelasti schen Vliesstoff, der nur aus Gummifasern besteht, herzustellen. Der Verwirklichung dieses Vorschlages stehen jedoch unüberwindliche Schwierigkeiten ent- gegen. Einmal bereitet die Herstellung von Gummi fasern mit einem Durchmesser, der idem oder Textil fasern ähnlich ist, grosse Schwierigkeiten;
eingestreut.
Polyurethane nonwoven The invention relates to a method for producing nonwovens. Nonwovens are fabrics consisting of fibers in which the fibers are somehow connected to each other at the crossing points. For this purpose, the fibers are impregnated, such as B. in German Patent No. 920 211 described, with a binding agent.
However, a method is also known in which the fibers are connected to one another without a binding agent. For this purpose, thermoplastic fibers are sent through a hot rolling mill. At the passage of the fleece. Due to the hot roll gap, the thermoplastic fibers soften on the surface and stick to each other at their points of contact.
Another method is based on what soluble fibers - especially PVA fibers. The fibers are impregnated with water and become sticky. When pressure is then applied, the fibers stick together at the points of contact (DAS No. 1088 016). As expected, the properties of the nonwovens produced with binders largely depend on the adhesive used.
If you impregnate with latex, you get very resilient flat structures that are used as shape-retaining inserts in items of clothing. On the other hand, if you impregnate with melamine-formaldehyde resin or with certain acrylate resins, you get more paper-like flat structures that no longer show the cracks of the latex-bound types.
It would, of course, be tempting to produce a highly elastic nonwoven fabric that consists only of rubber fibers. The implementation of this proposal, however, faces insurmountable difficulties. On the one hand, the production of rubber fibers with a diameter that is similar to idem or textile fibers creates great difficulties;
Furthermore, the rubber fibers cannot be welded together. Of course, you could think of soaking the rubber fiber fleece again with latex in order to create a bond between the fibers. If you do this, you don't get a non-woven fabric, but just a structure similar to a rubber sponge.
It has now been found that, contrary to expectations, it is still possible to produce nonwovens whose fibers have highly elastic properties and which are glued to one another without the use of a binder. For this purpose, for example, a glycol is first implemented with a diisocyanate.
In other words: the glycol or advantageously also a polyester with terminal OH groups is allowed to react with a diisocyanate in such a way that the NCO groups initially react with the terminal OH groups of the other component to form urethane groups. Such an intermediate condensate can be spun through a nozzle without any particular difficulty.
In order to convert the jet emerging from the nozzle into a fleece, one works according to the known electrical spinning methods, the z. Described in German Patent Nos. 896,402 or 746,708. A tangled fiber fleece is created by increasing the polymer beam in the electric field. At the same time, the fibers of this fleece stick together at their points of contact.
If this fleece is exposed to the action of water or water vapor, the side chains also cross-link with one another, whereby the elastomeric properties of the threads only really come into their own; at the same time, the strength of its non-woven fabric is increased. In the end, you have a polyurethane fleece in which the fibers are connected to one another without a binder.
The invention thus relates to a polyunethane nonwoven fabric which is characterized in that the polyurethane fibers are glued to one another without a binder.
The corresponding process for the manufacture of such a polyurethane nonwoven fabric is characterized in that first a compound with terminal OH groups and a diisocyanate are allowed to react with one another in the absence of water, and this precondensate is then allowed to react. in the,
electric field and the resulting fleece exposed to the action of water.
The polyurethane fleece can only be produced in the manner just described. It is Z. B. not possible to spin the finished polyurethane and so force a connection of the fibers with each other. Such fleeces do not delaminate,
while the nonwovens produced with the crosslapper are easily separated again by laying several piles on top of each other and then impregnating the binding agent.
Example 100 g of a commercially available linear ethylene-glycol-adipic acid polyester (average molecular weight 2000; hydroxyl number 50-60) with terminal OH groups and containing about 1 water are heated in an autoclave for a period of 2 Hours at a pressure of 20 mm Hg at 140 ° C. There is complete drainage.
This dewatering is a prerequisite for the following flawless reaction with naphthylene-1,5-diisocyanate. 10.5 parts by weight of this substance (commercially available as Desmodur 15) are added to the still hot melt of the polyester with terminal OH groups (trade name Desmophen 2000)
interspersed. The whole thing is then left to stand for 10 minutes. The temperature drops to about 130 C. During the period mentioned, the NCO groups of the diisocyanate react with the terminal OH groups of the polyester to form urethane groups. 25 g of the still hot melt are then dissolved in 115 g of methylene chloride. The resulting solution is then spun out through a 0.1-0.3 mm thick nozzle.
At a distance of 40-60 cm below the nozzle, one or more wires are attached, which are charged to + 60,000 V. To increase the spinning speed, it is also possible to spin out from two nozzles.
Under the given conditions, they must have a distance of about 18 mm if disruptions to the formation of nonwovens are to be prevented. Already 10-20 mm below the nozzle opening, the solution, which emerges as a smooth jet, is split into many fine fibers and forms a fleece. This sinks to a grounded conveyor belt about 1 m below the wire,
Idas collects the spun fleece. In this way, a uniform deposit of the falling filaments is achieved. In order to @ increase the evenness even more, it is recommended that you lay a wire net on the elastic band and earth this wire net.
If you don't do that, the fibers falling on the insulating tape, which oscillates back and forth, become so strongly charged that they try to close off the incoming fibers, which carry the same sense of charge, and thus drive real flocs throughout the room cause.
After the fleece has been spun, the action of atmospheric moisture is sufficient to achieve the desired crosslinking. You can of course also spray water vapor or spin the fleece directly into water.
