Chacun des transformateurs comporte trois enroulements secondaires <B>10, 11,</B> 12,<B>101, 111,</B> 121, 102, 112, 122<B>...</B> <B><I>'ON,</I></B> 111x, 12N.
Les secondaires 11 sont également tous reliés en série, sauf le dernier 11N qui n'est pas utilisé, avec cette particularité qu'à, partir du rang N/2 les secon daires de la deuxième moitié de 4a série sont montés en opposition avec ceux de la première moitié de la série;

Apparatus for improving the precision of the determination of the bearing of a moving obstacle detected by a radar In the main patent, an apparatus has been described for improving the precision of the determination of the bearing of a moving obstacle detected by a radar, characterized in that it comprises memory devices cooperating with echo recording devices whose amplitude exceeds a determined threshold, these devices being grouped, on the one hand, so that at least one echo occurs in a repetition period of the radar is recorded there in one of several different positions each corresponding to a distance step chosen as a function of a determined definition of distance and, on the other hand,
so that the successive echoes and which are likely to be received during the successive repetition periods occurring during the passage of the radar opposite the objective are recorded there in other successive and different positions, and in that the memory devices assigned to the successive echoes are connected to at least one statistical device determining, according to the number and the distribution in time of the echoes received during said successive repetition periods, the moment of passage over this objective of the axis of the beam and emitting a signal offset by a determined and constant time with respect to the aforesaid instant.
In practice, however, this statistical positive does not always give the desired results; in fact, for the signal to be correctly transmitted, the echoes corresponding to all the successive repetition periods of the radar must be received. Also, the device is organized to emit a signal when the sum of the transformed signals is included in an interval zero. But, in this case, it is very difficult to determine the value 2e of the interval, because, if it is weak, there is a risk of not having a signal during the absence of certain echoes or of reception. spurious echoes, while if the interval 2e is large, the measurement precision disappears.
The object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus which does not have this drawback. This apparatus is characterized in that it comprises a statistical device constituted by two series of trans units respectively forming the echoes according to two identical odd symmetrical functions but shifted from one another by a time interval equal to that separating two successive repetition periods of the radar, and in that the two series of transformed signals are applied respectively to two summing devices whose outputs are connected to a comparator circuit emitting a signal when the two signals it receives have different signs.
It will be shown later that even in the very unfavorable case where the statistical device receives only one echo in two, it nevertheless emits a signal determining the instant of passage of the axis of the beam over the objective with a error not exceeding the time interval between two successive repetitions of the radar.
By way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention has been described below and shown in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. 1 is a diagram of this form of realization.
Figs. 2 -and 3 represent the transformed signals.
The apparatus represented comprises transformers 1, 2, 3 ... N-1, N in number equal to the sets of memories assigned to the reception of the successive echoes, which are produced, in accordance with the main patent, in the form of a shift registers, that is, the echoes received are transferred from one set, or matrix, to the next set when the next echo is received. Each of the transformers has three secondary windings <B> 10, 11, </B> 12, <B> 101, 111, </B> 121, 102, 112, 122 <B> ... </B> <B > <I> 'ON, </I> </B> 111x, 12N.
All the secondary windings 10, 101 ... 10, 7 are connected in series and they are calculated to provide, from the signals of constant amplitude applied to the primaries by the sets of memories, signals whose amplitude varies linearly according to a symmetrical even law shown in FIG. 2, first increasing up to the transformer of rank N / 2 and then decreasing, and roughly reproducing the shape of the antenna beam diagram.
These secondary 10 are connected to a comparator circuit 16 which also receives at 17 a constant amplitude signal determining the operating threshold of the device: the amplitude of the comparison signal applied at 17 to comparator 16 is chosen so that the device only works when a reasonable total number of echoes are received.
The secondaries 11 are also all connected in series, except the last 11N which is not used, with the particularity that, from row N / 2, the secondaries of the second half of the 4a series are mounted in opposition to those from the first half of the series;
the secondaries 111 to 11 N12 _ 1 are respectively identical to the secondaries 11N to 11N12 + 1 (the secondary of the transformer of rank N / 2 is suppressed for the reasons explained below) and they are calculated so as to transform the signals d 'constant amplitude formed at the transformers, in signals of linearly decreasing amplitude, due to the inversion of the connections of the secondaries of the second half of the series, one obtains at the output of the secondaries signals decreasing by a positive maximum up to' to zero,
obtained by suppressing the corresponding secondary of a rank N / 2 transformer, then from zero to a negative minimum as represented by line D in fig. 3.
The windings 12 of the third group are mounted, from the second, exactly like the windings 11 of the second group, i.e. the first winding 12 is not used, tan say that the windings 121 at 12 o'clock are respectively identical to the windings 11 to 11N_1, (it is the winding 12N12 + 1 which is deleted in this series), so that they provide signals identical to those supplied by the windings 11, but with an offset of 'a row, as represented by the line D' of the fi-. 3.
The series windings 11 to <B> 14-1 </B> are connected to a summing circuit 18, while the series windings 121 @ to 12N are connected to a summing circuit 19. The circuits 16, 18 and 19 are connected to the three inputs of a circuit 20 of the type and which outputs a signal when the following two conditions are met 10- When a signal is received from the comparator circuit 16.
20 - When the signals emanating from summing circuits 18 and 19 are of opposite sign.
Suppose for simplicity that the device is made to receive a total of five echoes and that these five echoes are all received. Suppose further that the five secondaries 10 of the transformer affect the signals received by the coefficients 1, 2, 3, 2, 1 as shown in fig. 2, while the secondaries 11 to 11 N _ 1 affect the corresponding signals of the coefficients 2, 1, 0, -1, -2, which amounts to eliminating in each series the secondary of the central transformer.
If all the echoes are received by the device, and taking into account the transfer of the signals from one set of memory to another and therefore from one transformer to the next at each repetition period of the radar; we can draw up the following table of the signals appearing at each repetition at the output of the different secondaries and of the signals accumulated in the summing circuits 18 and 19 (we will call D the signals of the secondaries 11, D 'the signals of the secondaries 12,
S the sum of the signals D accumulated in 18 and S 'the sum of the signals D' accumulated in 19

It will be the same if all the echoes are not received by the radar receiver. For example, in the case where we only receive three pulses separated by two voids, the previous table will be established as follows
