Exemple 1 Diacétate de diméthyl-2,6 octène-2 diol-4,8 100 parties en poids d'acétate de P-citronellyle, D = -f- 2,261> ;
; d24 = 0,9821 ; n0DO = 1,4482 ; D = -I- 3,860 ; indice d'esters : 434,0 (théorie = 437,0).

Process for the preparation of substituted tetrahydro-pyranes The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of substituted tetrahydro-pyranes, characterized in that the beta-citronellol (formula III attached) or one of its compounds is reacted. esters with an agent capable of introducing an acyloxy group in position 4, that dimethyl-2,6-octene-2-diol-4 is saponified,
8 mono- or diester obtained and which transforms the diol thus obtained (formula IV appended hereto) by treatment with a desiccant into a mixture of [2-methyl propene-1] y1-2 methyl-4 tetrahydropyranes and [ 2-methyl propene-2] y1-2 4-methyl tetrahydropyranes (formulas I and II appended).
We have observed the existence in the essential oil of geranium of oxides C1oH180 which we have recognized to be the cis- and trans- [methyl-2 propene-1] y1-2 methyl-4 tetrahydro-pyran (formula 1 annexed).
The presence of these oxides in the essential oil of geranium makes a decisive contribution to the value of this essential oil for perfumery. The essential oil produced in Reunion Island, the most highly valued origin, is the richest in oxides, of which it contains more than 1 q / o.
We have also observed that the ethylenic bond emigrates, when these oxides are subjected to the action of acid reagents, to give the [2-methyl-2-propene] y1-2-methyl-4 tetrahydro-pyran (formula II annexed). The odor of these substances is similar to that of their isomers.
We have observed in particular that the incorporation of these substances or mixtures of these substances in the essential oil of geranium increases the value of the latter and also that the incorporation in essential oils of artificial geranium as well as 'perfumes in which a fragrant note of geranium is sought after communicating superior olfactory qualities.
As agents which can be used to introduce an acyloxy group (R.COO where R can be an alkyl, an aryl, etc.) in a double bond, on the carbon atom 4, there may be mentioned mercuric acetate, tetraacetate lead, selenious oxide in the presence of an acid anhydride such as acetic anhydride.
The dehydration of the diol can be carried out either in the liquid phase or in the gas phase, by means of usual dehydrating reagents such as phosphoric acid, para-toluenesulphonic acid, potassium hydrogen sulphate, a silicate. aluminum, etc.
It leads to mixtures containing the [2-methyl propene] y1-2 methyl-4 t6trahydropyranes, from which can be obtained by physical means such as fractional distillation,
mixtures enriched in [2-methyl propene] y1-2 methyl-4 tetrahydropyranes suitable for uses in perfumery such as those described above.
By way of example, two embodiments of the invention are described in what follows, one comprising the use of mercuric acetate, the other that of selenious oxide.
