<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Electric machine set for a pump turbine Pump storage plants are generally operated with two hydraulic machines (turbine and pump). However, it is known to use only one hydraulic machine instead of the two hydraulic machines in order to simplify the hydraulic system, i. H. a pump turbine.
Such a pump turbine places increased demands on the electrical machine connected to it. This must be able to work as a motor and generator with a change of direction of rotation when switching from turbine to pump operation and possibly run at different speeds in both operating modes. The changeover from one operating mode to the other often has to be done very quickly. This requires the electrical machine operating as a motor to be braked very quickly and the machine as a generator to be started up accordingly quickly.
However, while such a pump turbine set for generator operation can be started up by the hydraulic machine, start-up for pump operation must be carried out in the opposite direction by electrical means. Since a self-starting of the electrical synchronous main machine from the network would result in a very high network load for a short time, it is more advantageous to provide an electrical starter motor.
The present invention is based on an electrical machine set for a pump turbine which contains a synchronous main machine operating as a motor or generator, which is excited by an exciter converter, which consists of an asynchronous motor and a direct current generator.
According to the invention, a slip-ring asynchronous machine is arranged on the shaft of the synchronous main machine, which can optionally be switched with the available means as follows: a) the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine is connected to the mains, while its rotor winding is short-circuited via a starting resistor .
b) the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine is connected to the asynchronous motor of the exciter converter, while its rotor winding is fed uniaxially with direct current by a self-exciter circuit.
c) the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine is fed uniaxially with direct current from the direct current generator of the exciter converter, while its rotor winding is short-circuited via a starting resistor.
d) the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine is short-circuited via a braking resistor, while its rotor winding is fed with direct current in one axis from a self-exciter circuit or from the direct current generator of the exciter converter.
The slip-ring asynchronous machine can thus be used in an advantageous manner for starting the synchronous main machine, for supplying the drive motor of the exciter converter and for braking the entire machine set. As a result, the requirements made at the outset for an electrical machine set for a pump turbine, namely fast starting and braking and faster

Change from motor to generator operation, fulfilled to a particularly good extent.
In the following, the invention will be explained with reference to an embodiment shown in the figure, which shows the structure and the circuit of an electrical machine set designed according to the invention for a pump turbine. The hydraulic machine PT sits on the same shaft with the electrical synchronous main machine 1. The stator winding of the synchronous main machine 1 is connected to the network 2 via the switch S 1. The polarity reversal switch U is provided to change the direction of rotation. Furthermore, the stator circuit of the synchronous main machine can be short-circuited via the short-circuiting device K 1.
The exciter converter 3, which consists of the asynchronous motor 4 and the direct current generator 5, is used to excite the synchronous main machine 1. The direct current generator 5 is connected to the slip rings of the synchronous main machine 1 via the switch S. The asynchronous motor 4 of the exciter converter 3 is connected to the network 2 via the switch S3 and the transformer 6.
The slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 is arranged on the shaft of the synchronous main machine 1. The stator winding of this slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 can be connected to the transformer 6 and the network 2 via the switches S and S3. A polarity reversal switch U is provided in the stator winding to reverse the direction of rotation. Furthermore, if desired, the stator winding of the slip ring asynchronous machine 7 can be switched either by inserting the short circuit K .. in star or by inserting the switch S.-, in delta.
The short-circuiter K2 and the switch S are locked against each other.
The rotor winding of the slip-ring roller asynchronous machine 7 can be fed with direct current in one axis from the exciter converter 3 via the switch S1, ie. H. two of the three strands of the rotor winding are connected in parallel and in series with the third strand. Furthermore, a controllable resistor 8 is provided via which the rotor winding and a controllable resistor 9 via which the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 can be short-circuited.
For the self-excitation of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7, an excitation circuit 10 designed in a known manner with current addition is used, which via the switch S; is connected to the stator winding and via the switch S to the rotor winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7. In addition, there is the possibility of connecting the generator 5 of the exciter converter 3 to the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 in one axis via the switch S ;.
It is advantageous, through a suitable choice of the copper cross-sections of the rotor and / or the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine, to achieve the same current density in the individual strands of the windings with uniaxial feed. The circuit of the machine set shown in the figure allows the following operating states of the slip-ring asynchronous machine.
a) Use of the slip-ring asynchronous machine as a starter motor As a preparatory switching measure, the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 is connected in delta with the aid of switch S; the switches S ;, S <and K are open. The polarity reversal switches U, and U, for the synchronous main machine and the slip-ring asynchronous machine are switched according to the required direction of rotation of the synchronous main machine 1. The switch S :: is open and the rotor winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine is short-circuited via the resistor 8.
The resistor 8 is in the starting position. By turning the switch S; the exciter converter 3 is powered by the network. At the same time or immediately after the exciter converter has started up, the switch S i is engaged and the main machine set is started up by the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 running as a motor via the resistor 8.
The dimensioning of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 is largely determined by the size of the masses to be brought to their nominal speed and by the desired start-up time. To simplify the synchronization of the synchronous main machine, it is expedient to equip the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 with a smaller number of poles than the synchronous main machine, so that the synchronous main machine 1 passes through the synchronous speed when starting up. After the nominal speed of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 has been reached, the switch S is opened.
As a result, the slip ring asynchronous machine 7 is separated from the network 2. So there is no driving torque and the speed of the machine set decreases again according to the free run-out. In the meantime, the switch S 1 is closed and the synchronous main machine 1 is excited to the nominal voltage by the exciter converter 3. When passing through the synchronous speed, the synchronous main machine can be synchronized at a suitable point in time by a parallel switching device and connected to the network via switch S.
b) Use of the slip-ring asynchronous machine as a shaft generator When the main machine 1 is operated as a generator or motor, the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 can be operated in a self-excitation circuit and used to drive the excitation converter 3. For this purpose, the switches S7 and S: are closed, so that the exciter circuit 10 is connected to the stator and to the rotor of the slip ring rotor asynchronous machine 7 and the slip ring rotor is fed uniaxially with direct current. The short-circuiter K, and the switches S3, S5 and S ,, are open.
It should be noted that the switch S3, which connects the exciter converter 3 to the network 2, is opened before the connection of the slip-ring asynchronous machine to the starter by closing the switch S.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Drive motor 4 of the exciter converter 3 is produced, since the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 running synchronized with the synchronous main machine 1 has a slightly lower frequency than the exciter converter 3.
c and d) Use of the slip-ring asynchronous machine for electrical braking of the synchronous main machine So that the electrical synchronous main machine 1 is braked as briefly as possible when the hydraulic machine is switched from pump to turbine operation, the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 can either alone or in addition to the short-circuit braking of the synchronous main machine that takes place with the aid of the short-circuiter K, can be used to brake the machine set.
There are several possibilities for this: After disconnecting the main machine 1 from the network 2 by opening the switch S1, the star-connected stator of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 is excited uniaxially via the switch S with the direct current supplied by the exciter converter 3. The switches S, S5, S6, S; and S are open, the short circuit K. is closed. The exciter converter 3 is connected to the network 2 via the closed switch S2. The rotor winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 is short-circuited via the controllable resistor 8.
The excitation of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 can, however, also take place in the rotor. This is via the closed switch S ,; fed uniaxially with direct current and the stator is short-circuited via the adjustable resistor 9. The switches Sf, S.;, S ;, S, and S :, are open in this arrangement, the short circuit K @ is closed.
However, it is also possible, instead of the exciter converter 3, to use any other suitable direct current source for the braking excitation of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7.
Furthermore, there is also the possibility of driving the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 for braking independently of the mains in a self-excitation circuit. In this case, the main machine 1 cannot be used for short-circuit braking. If the slip ring asynchronous machine is used in a self-regulating circuit for short-circuit braking, the switches S; and S, closed and the short circuit K., open. The resistor 9 is switched on in the stator winding of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7.
The switches S3, S., and S, are open. In order to maintain sufficient excitation of the slip-ring asynchronous machine even when the speed drops, and thus to achieve a sufficiently short braking time, means can be provided that the braking current remains approximately constant during the braking process. This can e.g. B. can be achieved by reducing the starting resistance according to the decreasing voltage.
In order to avoid the provision of two differently dimensioned resistors 8 and 9, the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 can be designed so that it has similar stator and rotor data. Then a single controllable resistor can be switched on either in the stator or in the rotor circuit, depending on the type of braking selected.
In the exemplary embodiment, an arrangement was described in which the exciter converter 3 and the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7 are connected to the network 2 via a transformer 6. It is just as well possible to connect the two machines directly to the network, so that the machines have to be designed as high-voltage machines, then a corresponding breakdown transformer is only to be provided in the self-excitation circuit 10 of the slip-ring asynchronous machine 7.
