Fig. 12 die Schaltfolge der Steuerkette K2.

31 ... 36 bestehen.
81 ... 90 nachgeschaltet.
I>A</I><B>...</B><I>D</I> verbunden.
Die Aussagen<I>FF41</I> und<I>FF48</I> sind dann L .
Dies geschieht dadurch, dass die Aussagen<I>FF41</I> und<I>FF44</I> des Akkumulators ACl neben den Aussagen<I>FF27</I> ...
Method and device for carrying out multiplications The invention relates to a method and a device for carrying out multiplications of two maximum n-digit factors, in which the digits of the multiplicand and the multiplier are up or down.
in descending order one after the other for the representation of one product point.
Mechanical accounting machines are often equipped with additional electronic devices, preferably for performing multiplications. There are known, inter alia, on the principle of continued addition, provided with decimal electronic counters devices. These devices have the disadvantage that separate electronic memories for storing operands and the result must be available in the electronic computing device, which are very expensive due to the machines.
It has therefore already been proposed to use mechanical or similar devices to be built into the booking machine for storage. Such a machine also works according to the method of continued addition with parallel processing of all multiplicands. It is well known that the cost of working in parallel is very high.
There is also a multipli cation method known in which step by step from the digits contained in the memory of the Multipli kanden and the multiplier from one digit each column partial products are formed, the final digit of a column calculated partial product sum is immediately written down.
Furthermore, multiplication devices are known in which certain numbers of pulse groups are provided for a multiplication process, from which the pulse and pulse group numbers corresponding to the respective multiplicand digits are selected by counting devices. These devices have the disadvantage that, due to the provision of certain numbers of pulse groups, the computing time must always be the same as the maximum longest.
The object of the invention is to create an advantageous training and development of the multiplication method, which works with column-wise partial product formation, and a device for performing the method, by means of which it is particularly suitable for the electronic execution of the invoice and with extremely little effort gets by on tax revenues.
The method according to the invention for solving the problem is characterized in that 2 n-1 computing cycles are carried out to determine the product, with 1, 2 <B> ... </B> n- in each of the first n-1 multiplication cycles. 1 partial multiplications take place and the remaining positions are run through as blind positions without calculation, that this is followed by a multiplication cycle with n partial multiplications, that the blind positions are passed through in the last n-1 multiplication cycles, whereupon n-1, n-2 ... 1 Connect partial multiplications and that factor digits that are zero are treated as blind digits ..
The device according to the invention is characterized in that the digits of one factor are assigned a switching device with n stable states and the digits of the other factor are assigned a switching device with n + 1 stable states, that the first switching device in each multiplication cycle from its first to its the last position to display the lowest to the highest digit of the one factor is switched so that the second switching device from the position corresponding to the first digit to the + 1th,
no position ent speaking position and is switched from this to the position corresponding to the highest factor position and at the beginning of the new multiplication cycle assumes the next position in the order of their advancement.
The inventions are explained using the drawing using an exemplary embodiment.

Fig. 12 shows the switching sequence of the control chain K2. <I> The construction stages </I> In the exemplary embodiment, a device for multiplication with the aid of known electronic construction stages using transistors and crystal diodes is described.
The method according to the invention has, among other things, the advantage that it can be replaced by other components, such as B. ferrite cores, can be easily realized. So z. B. the matrices can be designed as ferrite core matrices. The timing chains can be replaced by ferrite core shift lines. The application of the relevant switching means can be implemented by a specialist if necessary without inventive intervention, so that a more detailed description is unnecessary.
Fig. 1.1 shows the symbol for an astable multivibrator. This consists, in a known manner, of two transistors that are mutually fed back with capacitors and emit a sequence of square-wave pulses.
The Fig.1.2 represents the circuit symbol for a bistable multivibrator or a flip-flop. The inputs are indicated by arrows and the outputs are symbolized by a line without any special identification. Another arrow indicates the extinguishing input. The flip-flops are switched by switching edges that change from 0 (potential 0 V) to L (potential -12 V).
If a switch-on pulse is given to an input, the associated output assumes the on-state (L). This corresponds to a potential of -12 V; the off state (0) corresponds to a potential of 0 V at the same output.
When a pulse is sent to the clear input, the flip-flop goes into the off state. The switching state of the flip-flop is indicated by the symbol FFl7 <I> = L </I>, so that the flip-flop 17 is in the on state. If the flip-flop 17 is in the off state, this is characterized by the symbol <I> FF17 = 0 </I> or <I> FF17 = L </I>.
If the flip-flop has an input in the middle of the symbol, this means that it is switched to the opposite state by every pulse. In this way of working, the flip-flop is often referred to as a trigger.
The circuit symbol for a pulse shaper is shown in Fig. 1.3. This is used to bring the pulses generated by contacts into the state required for the switching elements. Its structure is similar to the well-known Schmitt trigger. The OR circuits used (Fig. 1.4) deliver the statement L (-12 V) at their output, which is marked by a point, if the statement L is at an input.
The AND circuit (Fig. 1.5) only delivers the statement L if the statement L is present at all inputs. The exit is marked with a point. The relay amplifiers (Fig. 1.6) and the inverters (Fig. 1.7) are known amplifier circuits with transistors.
<I> The </I> calculation method It is based on a known multiplication method in which the entire multiplication process is divided into multiplication cycles and the digits of the multiplicand are multiplied with the digits of the multiplier in ascending or descending order . As a result, a product number is formed for each multiplication cycle, specifically in the order of increasing significance, which remains unaffected by the further multiplication cycles.
This eliminates the need, in a known manner, of special transmission devices that enable the secure registration of a transmission between the actual pulses to be counted.
The partial product formation takes place by successive accumulation of the pulses corresponding to the multiplicane digits. In the selected exemplary embodiment for multiplying two ten-digit factors, a three-digit accumulator is sufficient. A multiplication example for two four-digit factors is shown in Fig. 6 to explain the process.
The numbers 536 and 1470 used for the multiplication example are multiplied with one another according to the following scheme. The numbers in brackets indicate the positions of the factors.

With two n-digit factors, the entire multiplication process comprises 2n-1 multiplication cycles, each of which leads to the formation of a product number. Each multiplication cycle requires one run of the control device, as shown in the right-hand column. The middle column shows the partial multiplications required in each cycle. The number of partial multiplications increases from one to the number n and then decreases again to one.
At the end of a partial multiplication, the switching device is switched one position at a time. If one of the factor numbers is zero, the transfer takes place immediately on the basis of this criterion. Each calculated product location is transferred to a mechanical memory through an output process. The partial product is then shifted,
whereby the lowest digit is pushed out of the accumulator. The remaining digits will be offset against the new partial product. The switching device for selecting the respective factor positions to be multiplied is based on the following principle. The n-places of the multiplier are assigned n (= 4) stable states of a switching device.
By supplying n pulses, the switching device assumes the same starting position at the beginning of each multiplication cycle. The switching device assigned to the positions of the multiplicand has n + 1 stable states; in addition to the n-positions 1 <B> ... </B> 4, it can also assume position 0.
The switching sequence of this device is 4-3-2-1-0-4-3, with the first Multiplikationszy cycle starting at 1 and each subsequent one at the next higher position, since the switching device for the positions of the multiplicand has the same four pulses as the switching device for the multiplier to be performed.
Here, the switching device for the multiplier runs from position 1 to position 4, while the switching device for the multiplicand runs from position 1 via positions 0 and 4 to position 2. The additional position 0 has another function. In the first -n-1 multiplication cycles, partial multiplications are ended when position 0 is reached.
No pulses are fed into the accumulator for the other activated positions. These spots are referred to as blind spots. In the last n-1 multiplication cycles, reaching the 0 position triggers partial multiplications.
After or before the position 0 is reached, the switching device is immediately switched on in the two cases described, as in the case where one of the two factor numbers is zero.
<I> The storage of the factors </I> Two contact matrices are used to store the factors, namely the multiplier matrix Mk (FIG. 2.6) and the multiplicand matrix Md (FIG. 2.4). Both matrices have ten column lines that are assigned to the digits zero ... nine and are connected to a voltage of -12 V via resistors 250 ... 259 and 260 ... 269.
There are also ten row lines each, which are connected to the AND circuits 71 ... 80 and 101 ... 110 via the inverters 81 ... 90 or 91 ... 100. Both matrices have lockable contacts through which the factor values are saved. The drawing shows the storage of the numbers 3 9 0 5 4 2 as a multiplier and 1 0 0 9 5 7 as a multiplicand. The setting of the matrices takes place z.
B. through the racks of a booking engine. The column lines y1 ... y9 are led in corresponding combinations to the AND circuits 124 ... 127 in order to convert the decimal digits into the direct or 1, 2, 4, 8 encryption.
The column lines 71 <B> ... </B> 79 are at -12 V even when the contacts are closed, which corresponds to the value L as long as the outputs of the AND circuits 71 ... 80 are still at 0 lie. One of the AND circuits 71 ... 80, however, carries the statement L, so that the corresponding row line is at 0 via the associated negator. Is z. B. in this line of the number one corresponding contact is closed, the statement from the AND circuit 124 0 is.
If the statement of the relevant AND circuit 71 ... 80 changes to 0, the potential of the associated row line changes to L and thus also the statement of the AND circuit 124. The output of the Ne gator 115 goes to 0, causing the flip -Flop 4 is turned on. The pulse selection device 12 is thus set to one.
The column lines x0 <B> ... </B> x9 of the multiplicand matrix are led in corresponding combinations to the AND circuits 119 ... 123, whereby the entry of product pulses into the accumulator AC1 is controlled with the help of the pulse center II.
<I> The </I> factor number control A pulse generator 19, preferably an astable multivibrator (FIG. 2.1), via an inverter 163 and a power stage 164, supplies a clock pulse sequence denoted by s, which is fed into the pulse center II is directed.
This assumes its starting position (FFl = 0, FF2-0) by a signal FF13 arriving via line 8 and inverter 167. The statements of the flip-flop are partly direct (FF2) and partly via the inverters 165, 166, 168 and 169 to the other switching elements, such as the AND circuits 120, 121, 122, 123, which belong to the multi-digit number control,
and the AND circuits 1.99, 195, 197 and 198 on the multi plikatorseite supplied.
The pulse center II operates according to the voltage diagram shown in FIG. 7, which shows the clock pulses s and the statements of the flip-flops 1 ... 3 and their negations. The edges of the voltage curves shown going from L to 0 are used for switching.
The AND circuit 123 supplies the statement L in the interval s4 of the cycle of the pulse center II if none of the digits zero, two, four, six or eight is set in the corresponding line. The statement U123 is linked to the signal FF13 in a further AND circuit 212.
The statement <I> U212 </I> controls the AND circuit 213 via the OR circuit 233, so that the flip-flop 41 is toggled at the end of the mentioned interval by the switching edge of the clock pulse s (FF41 <I> = L) . </I> The statements FF2 and FF1 are applied to the AND circuit 122. In addition, the digit lines xo, x1, x2, <I> x4, </I> x5 and xo are brought in.
7 and 10 shows that the statement L appears in the interval s2 if none of the digits zero, one, two, four, five or six is set. The inverter 114 negates this statement, so that the statement of the AND circuit 229 is also 0 and the statement L appears at the output of the inverter 162. This is linked in the AND circuit 218 with the signal FF13 and reaches the AND circuit 219 controlled by the statement <I> FF48 </I> and the clock pulses s via the OR circuit 236.
The switching edge of the clock pulse s switches the flip-flop 42 and thus stores the value two in the accumulator ACl.
In a similar way, the AND circuit 121, on which the statements FF1, FF2 and FF3 are located, supplies the statement L for the digits two, six and nine in the interval so, and the AND circuit 120, on which the statement FF1 is located, in the intervals s1 and s3 for the digits four, five, six, seven, eight and nine the statement L.
The controlled by the AND circuits 120 ... 123 entry of the pulses in the accumulator ACl is shown in Fig. 10 is. The AND circuit 119 supplies the statement L if none of the digits one to nine is set in the relevant row of the matrix.
The pulse selection device 12 is set to the respective multiplier digit via the inverters 115 ... 118 and controls the number of inputs of the product pulses determined by the multiplicand. It consists of the flip-flop 4 <B> ... </B> 7, the AND circuits 200 and 201 and the OR circuit 231. The switching of the pulse selection device 12 is carried out by the AND circuits 195, 197 and 198 controlled.
The FF13 signal is applied to all three AND circuits, which means that switching only takes place in the event of multiplication. The AND circuits 196 and 200 are also clocked by the clock pulse sequence s.
It can easily be deduced from FIGS. 7 and 10 that the flip-flop 5 is activated by the AND circuit 197 in the intervals so and s2 and by the AND circuit 198 in the intervals s1 and s3 via the OR circuit 231 and the AND circuit 200 can receive switching pulses.
The flip-flop 4 receives an incremental pulse through the control of the AND circuit 195 with the statement FF3 in the interval s4 via the OR circuit 230 and the AND circuit 196. During one cycle of the pulse central II, the pulse selection device 12 receives five pulses, four of which have the value two and one has the value one.
With each passage through the pulse center II, the position of the pulse selection device 12 is lowered by one value. If the pulse center II and the pulse selection device 12 have reached the zero position, the signal L arises at the output of the AND circuit 199, the output of the inverter 161 thereby provides a switching edge which is used as a signal (N161) for the termination of a multiplication cycle.
The pulse selection device 12 is also constructed in such a way that it can mask out the tenth pulse of a pulse train. This mode of operation is only required during the shift of the partial product locations. For this purpose, the displacement signal FF17 is applied to the OR circuit 230, so that the clock pulses s run to the flip-flop 4 via the AND circuit 196. Because a signal FF7 arises after ten incoming pulses, which is used to control the shift cycle (Fig. 8).
<I> The </I> factor position control The two control chains K1 and K2 (Fig. 2.5), which consist of flip-flops 20 ... 26 and 31 ... 36, are used for factor position control. The chain K2 can assume ten stable states, with the flip-flop 36 being switched over from position six.
The chain K1 has the additional flip-flop 20, which is switched in the cases when there is no introduction of product pulses in the accumulator (blind spots). The AND circuits 101 ... 110 and 71 ... 80 are assigned to the two control chains in such a way that two groups are created, each containing the flip-flops 21 ... 25 and 31 ... 35 and one the outputs of the flip-flops 26 and 36 are assigned.
Furthermore, all of the AND circuits 101 <B> ... </B> 110 from the statement FF15 of the flip-flop 15 and the AND circuits 71 ... 80 by the statement <I> FF12 </I> des Flip-flops 12 controlled. All AND circuits are followed by inverters 91 ... 100 or 81 ... 90.
When a column of the multiphase matrix is excited, the potential 0 volts is then present at the output of the corresponding inverter 91 ... 100. It is similar with the multiplier matrix. The excited column also has a potential of 0 volts.
When the flip-flop 12 is switched over, the edge going to 0 switches the output of the corresponding inverter 81 <B> ... </B> 90 to L, whereby the pulse selection device 12 is preset.
<I> The </I> progression <I> of the </I> position control chains Due to the deletion, the flip-flops 20 <B> ... </B> 26 of the control chain K1 are at 0. At the beginning of the calculation, the chain K1 is set to one by a pulse from the line 300. The flip-flop 21 switches to L. Stepping pulses now reach the flip-flops 20 <B> ... </B> 25 via the line 301.
Since an on-state flip-flop is switched off and the next one is switched on. The switching sequence of the chain is shown in FIG. In the first line the impulses 1 are indicated by which the chain is switched on and on. The positions one to ten result from combinations of the flip-flop 26 with one of the flip-flops 21 <B> ... </B> 25.
The assignment results from the figure. The reversal to blind spots with the help of flip-flops 14 and 15 and the AND circuits 186 and 187 deserves special attention.
As long as the flip-flop 14 is switched off, the flip-flop 15 is always switched on via the AND circuit 187 when the flip-flop 20 switches on. If the flip-flop 14 is switched on, the flip-flop 15 is switched off via the AND circuit 186 whenever the flip-flop 20 switches off.
After n multiplication cycles have elapsed, the blind spots are located in front of the spots at which pulses are to be fed into the accumulator. The flip-flop 14 must therefore be switched over, as a result of which the flip-flop 15 is switched via the AND circuit 186 in the further course. In this case, the multiplicand and the multiplier control chain take the position one and ten respectively.
The statements FF36, FF21, <I> FF35 </I> and FF26, which are all L under these conditions, are applied to the AND circuit 191. The incremental pulse coming from the inverter 138 switches on the flip-flop 14 via the AND circuit 191 and at the same time switches the flip-flop 21 to <B> 0,
</B> this the flip-flop 26 to L and this still the flip-flop -20 to L. The chain is now in position zero. The next stepping pulse of the inverter 138 switches the flip-flop 20 to 0. The statement <I> FF20 </I> goes to 0 and switches off the flip-flop 15 via the AND circuit 186, at the same time the flip-flop 25 is switched on, whereby the position ten is reached.
Since FF15 is now 0, the AND circuits 101 ... 110 are unlocked, and partial multiplications can take place.
The progression of the multiplier point control chain K2 is shown in FIG. After the deletion, all flip-flops are also at 0.
The chain is switched to position one by the pulse via line 300. The flip-flop 31 switches to L in the process. The ten stable states also result again as combinations of the states of the flip-flops 31 ...
35 with the flip-flop <B> 36. </B> <I> The product storage </I> The product is stored in a mechanical memory (FIG. 4), which is also part of a booking or similar machine. A number of adjusting pieces 321 are available for storing a digit. A carriage 320, which can be switched further in places and contains ten magnets Ao, A1 ... A9, runs above the position field.
When one of the magnets Ao, A1 ... Ao is excited, the corresponding digit value is stored in a row. The value is extracted via toothed racks 322, which enable both the entry of the value in mechanical counters 323 or their imprint by means of a printing device 324. Such memories are known, so that only a schematic representation is given. There is also a contact, not shown, which is always closed when an actuator is brought into the active position.
This contact sends a signal 304 (FIG. 2.8) to the computing device to indicate that it can continue to work. As already stated, the entire multiplication is carried out in multiplication cycles, the multiplication cycle leading to the formation of a product point. The arithmetic unit also contains an electronic storage unit for receiving the sub-product resulting from each multiplication cycle,
hereinafter referred to as the accumulator. The accumulator consists of the accumulator AC1 and the two counters AC2 and AC3 to receive the partial product comprising a maximum of three digits in a multiplication cycle. The accumulator AC1 has the same structure as the pulse selection device 12. The counters AC2 and AC3 are structured like known decimal counters.
To output the calculated product points in the product matrix, the outputs of the flip-flops 41, 42, 44 and 48 are via the AND circuits 271 <B> ... </B> 274, which are triggered by the signal <I> FF16 </ I> are controlled with the amplifiers 240 <B> ... </B> 243 and these with the relays <I> A </I> <B> ... </B> <I> D </ I > connected.
The relays <I> A </I> <B> ... </B> <I> D </I> act via a decryption circuit (FIG. 5) on the magnets Ao, A1 assigned to the numbers zero to nine <B> ... </B> Ao, through which the value is transferred to the position piece matrix.
A carry of the accumulator ACl occurs once when it has reached its position nine and one is added when the multiplication is continued. The statements <I> FF41 </I> and <I> FF48 </I> are then L.
Furthermore, a carry must be made if the accumulator AC1 contains the value eight or nine and the multiplication is continued by adding the value two. In the first case, the statement of the AND circuit 212 is L, since an odd number (in this case one) is set in the matrix. The AND circuit 270 then supplies with the statement FF41 L, which in addition to the statement <I> FF48 </I> and FF13, the AND circuit 214 is controlled.
The statement of the AND circuit 214 controls the AND circuit 215 via the OR circuit 234, via which a pulse enters the counter AC2 through the clock s. In the second case, a statement L about the OR circuit 236 is supplied by the AND circuit 218 to the AND circuit 214, so that while the accumulator AC1 continues to count by two, a carry enters the counter AC2.
Similarly, the carry of the counter AC2 runs via the AND circuits 216 and 217 and the OR circuit 235 into the counter AC3 if the counter AC2 contains the value nine and simultaneously receives a carry. The signals FF41, FF48, FF51 and FF58 are fed to the AND circuit 216 for control purposes.
<I> The output of a product position </I> The last partial multiplication of a multiplication cycle takes place when the chain K2 has reached its position ten. This partial multiplication is ended by the signal N161 and the signal FF13 goes to L. If no multiplication is to be carried out with the tenth digit of the multiplier, since one of the factors is zero, the flip-flop 11 is switched on via the AND circuit 183 and the statement FFll goes to 0.
With the clock pulse s, FFll becomes L again. Both statements FF13 and FF11 are due to the AND circuit 280. As long as one of the two statements FF13 or FF11 is 0, the output is 0, and L is connected to the AND circuit 279 via the inverter 297. As soon as both become L, which is the case when the signal N161 or a signal from the AND circuit 183 occurs, the output of the inverter 297 goes to 0 and the output of the AND circuit 279 also goes to 0.
At the AND circuit 279 are still the statements FF35 = L and FF36 = L at this moment, which corresponds to the value ten in the chain K2. In addition, the AND circuit 279 is still controlled by the statement from the inverter 159. This is L when the flip-flops 27 ... 30 are all L. At the moment when FF13 = 0 or FFll = 0, the output of the AND circuit 279 goes to 0.
This turns on the flip-flop 16. The relay 276 is excited via the inverter 154 and the relay amplifier 157. The signal FF16 is fed to the AND circuits 271 <B> ... </B> 274, so that the relays <I> A ... D </I> be excited via the relay amplifier 240 ... 243 according to the position of the accumulator ACl at this time.
The relay 276 closes a contact 277, via which the conversion device is connected to the positive pole of the voltage source (FIG. 5). To secure this, a contact 298 is also provided in this line, which only closes when the product matrix parking cart is ready to receive.
The decoding of the tetrads of the accumulator ACl takes place via the contacts ai, bi, ci and di, so that one of the magnets Ao, A9 ... A1 is excited and the corresponding adjusting piece 321 is set in the matrix (FIG. 4). If the actuator is brought into action, a contact is closed, which supplies the signal 304.
This switches on a Schmitt trigger 278, which controls the AND circuit 299 so that the clock pulse s switches off the flip-flop 16 via this. The switch-off edge switches on the flip-flop 12 via the AND circuit 208, which controls the shift.
<I> The position shift </I> Since the output of a product position in the product matrix only takes place from the accumulator ACl and a local output of the product positions takes place one after the other and for the correct addition of the partial products, a position displacement device is available through which the content of the counter AC3 is shifted into the counter AC2 (Fig.2.7). The shift is carried out in such a way that, controlled by the pulse selection device 12, groups of ten pulses are provided,
of which the number corresponding to the complement of the stored number in the accumulator AC1 or -the two counters AC2 and AC3 and after switching appropriate control means the number of pulses corresponding to the value to be shifted in the previously emptied accumulator AC1 or the counter AC2 comes in.
The flip-flop 17, at the output of which the signal <I> FF17 </I> is picked up, is used to control the shift. The signal <I> FF17 </I> controls the three AND circuits 209, 210 and 211, which are also controlled by the flip-flops 251, 252 and 253. The flip-flop 250 and the AND circuits 225, 226, 227 and 228 also belong to the displacement device.
The signal <I> FF17 </I> switches on the flip-flop 251, as a result of which the AND circuit 213 is controlled via the AND circuit 209 and the OR circuit 233 so that clock pulses s can run into the accumulator AC1 . If the accumulator ACl switches from nine to zero, then a pulse from the flip-flop 48 arrives via the inverter 150 and the AND circuit 225 on the flip-flops 250 and 251, so that the flip-flop 250 and the flip-flop 251 is turned off.
The flip-flop 250 is switched off again via the inverter 275 by the signal U291. The - signal U291 arises in the following way: If the pulse selection device 12 is switched to zero, the statement FF7 goes to 0. This switching edge switches on the flip-flop 10 via the AND circuit 285 (FIG. 2.2). The statement L is then present at the output of the negative 306 and this is applied to the AND circuit 291, which also has the signal <I> FF17 </I> and the clock pulse sequence <I> s </I>.
The statement FF10 jumps to L with the switching edge of a clock pulse. If the clock then goes from 0 to L again, the output of the AND circuit 291 jumps to L. A switching edge acts on flip-flops 250 via inverter 275 (FIG. 2.7), whereby flip-flop 250 is switched off and a switch-on pulse is sent to flip-flop 252.
The statement L is thus applied to the AND circuit 210 and this is applied to the AND circuit 215 via the OR circuit 234, so that clock pulses s can enter the counter AC2. If the counter AC2 emits a carry pulse, the flip-flop 252 is switched off and the flip-flop 251 is switched on via the AND circuit 226.
Thus, the statement L is applied to the AND circuit 213 via the OR circuit 233 from the AND circuit 209, so that until the appearance of the next signal from the AND circuit 291 as many clock pulses s can flow into the accumulator AC1, as correspond to the number to be shifted. At the next switching edge from the inverter 275, the flip-flop 251 is switched off via the AND circuit 227.
The AND circuit 227 is still controlled by the signal FF10, so that when the flip-flop 251 is switched off for the first time by the transfer pulse of the accumulator AC1, switching on of the flip-flop 253 via the AND circuit 227 is prevented. Pulses can now run into the _AC3 counter until a transfer takes place.
The flip-flop 253 is switched off by the transfer pulse and the flip-flop 252 is switched on, so that the remaining pulses of a group of ten enter the counter AC2 via the AND circuit 215. The next switching edge from the inverter 275 switches the flip-flop 17 off via the AND circuit 228. At the same time, the flip-flop 252 is turned off. This ends the shift.
<I> The </I> digits <I> and rounding </I> A memory in the form of a binary counter Z (Fig. 2.8) with a counting capacity of sixteen is available for performing digits and rounding.
The number of digits to be struck off at the start of the calculation is entered into this memory by the booking machine in the form of the sixteen complement via the lines 429 using the signal N286. The counter Z prevents the output of the product points by immediately initiating a shift after a multiplication cycle has ended. There is also a flip-flop 18 for storing the rounding information available.
As described for the output of a product position, the two signals FF13 and FF11 go to L and the output of the inverter 297 to 0. Since the other inputs of the AND circuit 205 are low, the signal of the AND circuit 205 turns on the flip-flop 17 and thus initiates a shift through which the position of the product in the accumulator AC1 is lost.
When the flip-flop 17 is switched off, the counter Z is incremented by one via the AND circuit 303 and the next multiplication cycle is initiated. The shifts without output take place until the counter Z has reached the value fifteen. In the product point belonging to this point, it must be determined whether this is _> 5. This happens because the statements <I> FF41 </I> and <I> FF44 </I> of the accumulator ACl next to the statements <I> FF27 </I> ...
FF30 of the counter Z and the signal <I> FF17 </I> are applied to the AND circuit 203. If the value of the last product position to be deleted = 5, the output of the AND circuit 203 remains low until the signal <I> FF17 </I> goes to 0. This happens when the next shift is turned on.
As a result, the flip-flop 18 switches to L and stores the rounding information. During the following shift, the accumulator AC1 is run through, and its transfer pulse (FF48 goes to 0) switches off the flip-flop 18, so that the AND circuit 202, which also receives the signal <I> FF17 </I> is, a pulse on the side input 43 of the flip-flop 41 is given. This increases the next product digit by one.
If the value in the accumulator ACl is greater than five, the flip-flop 18 is already switched on when the accumulator ACl switches from position five. The rest of the process is as described above.
<I> A working example </I> The following describes the initiation of a multiplication process and the implementation of the multiplication of the first two places of the factors. A start pulse from the booking machine reaches the Schmitt trigger 287 via the line 305, as a result of which its output St287 goes to 0.
The signal L is then applied via the inverter 286 to the OR circuit 288 and via this to the AND circuit 289, to which the clock pulse sequence s is applied. If the clock pulse s goes to L, then an erase pulse appears at the output of the inverter 290, which puts all switching stages in the starting position.
When the Schmitt trigger 287 is switched off, a pulse passes through the inverter 286 to the line 300 for setting the control chains K1 and K2 and to the flip-flop 10, which is thereby switched on. The next clock pulse s switches off the flip-flop 10, whereby a pulse appears at the output of the inverter 306, which the AND circuit 307,
which is controlled by the signal <I> FF17 </I> happens and the flip-flop 12 turns on.
The signal L is applied to the AND circuit 185 via the AND circuit 308 and the inverter 292, and the second input of the AND circuit 185 is likewise at L. The signal L is then applied via the inverters 134 and 135 to the AND circuits 71 <B> ... </B> 80, of which only the AND circuit 71 carries the signal L at the output.
The signal 0 is present on the associated column line via the inverter 81 and, since the value 2 is set in the first column, this signal is applied to the AND circuit 125 and thus also to its output.
The outputs of the remaining AND circuits 124, 126 and 127 are low. The next clock pulse s switches the flip-flop 12 off again, whereby the output of the inverter 135 goes to 0 and thus the signal from the output of the inverter 81 changes to L. The output of the AND circuit 125 thus also goes to L, and the flip-flop 5 is switched to L via the negator 116.
The flip-flop 13 is switched on via the AND circuit 188, since the column lines yo and x0 both contain the signal L. When the flip-flop 13 is switched on, the pulse center II is set via the inverter 167. The value 7 is set in the first line of the multiplicand matrix. The signal 0 is therefore on this row line via the negator 91.
This is due to the AND circuits 121 and 119. The remaining circuits 120, 122 and 123 are at L. As can be seen from FIG. 10 and has already been described, three pulses with the value two and one pulse with the value one get into the accumulator AC1. The pulse center II runs through a cycle and controls the pulse selection device 12 so
that their position is lowered by one value. The value of the multiplicand digit is then transferred again to the accumulator AC1. At the end of the second cycle of the pulse central II, the pulse selection device 12 has run to zero. The statement L is now applied to the AND circuit 199 from all flip-flops 1 ... 7 and the signal N161 arises via the inverter 161, which turns off the flip-flop 13 and thus ends a partial multiplication.
The signal FF13 goes to 0, switches on the flip-flop 12 via the AND circuit 283 and switches the two chains K1 and K2 to the next position via the OR circuit 237 and the inverters 137 and 138 and the line 301. This is the zero position on chain K1.
As already described, the flip-flop 15 is switched on so that the signal 0 is applied to the AND circuits 101 via the inverter 136 and thus further partial multiplications are prevented. The following clock pulse s switches the flip-flop 12 off again. The output of the negator 292 goes to 0.
The AND circuit 188 is now blocked because the signal FF15 = 0. The output of the AND circuit 182 is 0 for the same reason, so that the signal L is applied to the AND circuit 183 via the inverter 133 and the pulse from the inverter 292 can run to the flip-flop 11 via the AND circuit 183 that is switched on.
The next clock pulse s switches the flip-flop 11 off again, whereby the flip-flop 12 is switched on via the AND circuit 284. Furthermore, the two chains K1 and K2 are switched on via the OR circuit 237. The next clock pulse s switches the flip-flop 12 off again. The resulting pulse runs through the AND circuit 183 and switches on the flip-flop 11, which is switched off again by the next clock pulse s and supplies a further incremental pulse for the chains K1 and K2.
If the chain K2 has reached the position ten, the first multiplication cycle is ended, and the output of the partial product point is initiated in the manner already described, or the shift is initiated immediately when the position is deleted.
According to the capacity of the computing device of the exemplary embodiment, nineteen multiplication cycles take place, which run in an analogous manner. The end of all multiplication cycles is marked by the AND circuit 206 (FIG. 2.5). This AND circuit links the signals FF35, FF36, FF25, <I> FF26 </I> and FF14. The signals FF35 and FF36 are low because the chain K2 is ten. The same applies to the chain K1, so that <I> FF25 </I> and <I> FF26 </I> are L.
Since these conditions are also present at the end of the eighth multiplication cycle, FF14 is applied to the AND circuit as a further control variable. The flip-flop 14 is switched on via the AND circuit 191 at the beginning of the eleventh multiplication cycle.
The conditions for this are present at the end of the tenth multiplication cycle if FF35 and FF36 are L (chain K2 in position ten) and <I> FF21 </I> and <I> FF26 </I> are also L (chain K1 in position one). The incremental pulse via the line 301 then switches on the flip-flop 14 via the AND circuit 191.
The AND circuit 206 accordingly carries the statement L at the end of the nineteenth multiplication cycle. It now follows in the manner already described by switching on the flip-flop 16 via the AND circuit 279, the initiation of the output. The pulse 304 to the Schmitt trigger 278 switches it on, so that the flip-flop 16 is switched off by the clock pulse s via the AND circuit 299.
As a result, the output of the negator 154 goes to 0, and the shift flip-flop 17 is switched on via the AND circuit 208 and the shift already described is initiated. Since after the nineteenth multiplication cycle a two-digit partial product can be found in the electronic partial product memory, the output process must be repeated.
At the end of the shift, as already described, the flip-flop 17 is switched off via the AND circuit 228, whereby <I> FF17 </I> goes to 0. This signal goes to the OR circuit 237 (FIG. 2.2) and acts as an incremental pulse for the two chains K1 and K2, as a result of which the conditions at the AND circuit 206 change and its output goes to 0. As a result, the flip-flop 156 is turned on.
FF156 goes to 0 and switches on the output flip-flop 16 so that another output can take place. By switching on the flip-flop 156, the conditions at the AND circuits 207 and 208 have also been changed. The signal 0 is now applied to the AND circuit 208 and the signal L is applied to the AND circuit 207. If the signal 304 now comes for the shot of the output, the Schmitt trigger 278 is switched on.
Its left output goes to 0, so that an extinguishing pulse is given via the AND circuit 207 which triggers a powerful extinguishing pulse via the OR circuit 288 (FIG. 2.2), the AND circuit 289 and the amplifier 290 , through which all flip-flops are put into the starting position.
