Winding device for a flexible tape for linear measurements
The devices for winding a flexible tape for linear measurements generally consist of a casing in which a tape of steel, textile or synthetic material is wound. The tape winding or unwinding mechanism is most often formed for meters or double meters, by a return spring and, for ribbons of greater length, such as decameters for example, by a crank control.
In the oldest known embodiments, the casing consists of two shells, assembled against each other, on the peripheral seal edge of which a slot is provided for the passage of the tape between the interior and the exterior. of the housing. This construction has obvious drawbacks, in particular friction and wear of the tape against the edges of the slot and inaccuracy of guiding the tape which, on the one hand, risks being badly wound in the housing, and, on the other hand, can be held relative to the housing, in a direction opposite to that of its winding therein.
Other drawbacks resulting from the juxtaposition of the casing shells directly on top of one another, consist for example in a possible interlocking of one of these shells in the other. For this purpose, improvements made to the devices for winding the flexible tape for linear measurements recommend the use of a ring for separating and assembling the shells.
Solutions have already been proposed to improve the guiding of the tape between the inside and the outside of the case. In particular, attempts have been made to improve the peripheral output of the tape by providing, for small meter and double meter boxes, a reinforcement of the tangential guide of the strip at the outlet of the box and, for boxes with decameters or long ribbon, a peripheral outlet. provided with two rolling rollers, arranged on either side of the outlet in the direction of the periphery.
However, these solutions have proved to be limited and unsatisfactory applications, since they do not meet all the conditions for precise guiding of the tape in a functional housing. Indeed, for small housings, the tangential outlet provided appreciably complicates the construction of the housing, on which a reinforcement must be formed without the assembly of the shells being facilitated and, for larger housings, the rolling rollers cause a protuberance towards the inside of the casing partially bulky the space available for winding the tape.
For the latter, the direction given to the unwinding, respectively to the winding of the tape, is not determined either, so that careless handling of the device risks damaging the tape, in particular if it is extended in a direction not in accordance with its winding direction.
The present invention, which precisely aims to remedy these drawbacks, relates to a device for winding a flexible tape for linear measurements comprising a case, consisting of a bottom and a cover assembled on a peripheral ring, a winding mechanism and unwinding of the tape as well as means for guiding the tape between the inside and the outside of the case.
This device is characterized by the fact that the guide means are constituted by a reinforcement provided on the peripheral ring and extending approximately tangentially on the latter so as to provide, towards its end, an opening through which the tape can s' engage in the housing tangentially to the cylinder formed by its turns in the housing.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, two embodiments of the present invention.
Fig. 1 shows a plan view of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the second embodiment.
Fig. 3 is a front view of the embodiment shown in FIG. 2 where the housing does not contain ribbon.
We see in fig. 1 a decameter consisting of a housing 1 in which a tape 2 is wound on a drum 3 controlled by a folding crank 4.
The housing 1 consists of a peripheral ring 5 on which are assembled a non-visible base and a cover 6. The base and the cover are fixed by means of a non-visible screw holding the cover 6, the peripheral ring 5, and the bottom assembled against the drum 3. The peripheral ring has a reinforcement 7 extending approximately tangentially from the periphery of the ring and being limited obliquely so as to provide an opening 8 allowing the tape to escape from the housing.
In the reinforcement 7 are fixed two rollers 9, 10, with axes parallel to that of the drum 3 and arranged to pivot so that the tape 2 slides either without contact with them, or by resting on one or the another of the rollers, still rnais in a direction tangential to the cylinders of variable diameters formed by the turns of the tape in the housing.
Figs. 2 and 3 show a spring return device, for a tape 1 1 constituting a meter or a double meter. A housing 12 comprises a bottom 13 and a cover 14 assembled on either side of a ring 15 by means of a screw 16 fixed to the shaft of the drum, not shown, of the return spring mechanism. The ring 15 comprises a reinforcement 17 extending approximately tangentially from the periphery of the ring and limited by a flat face on which opens a slit 18 for guiding the tape between the interior and the exterior of the case. The section of the slot 16 is such that the tape which, in the present example, is metallic, can wind approximately tangentially on the drum and undergo, at the point of contact with the housing, minimal friction.
Thus, the peripheral ring and the reinforcement are preferably made of plastic, the contact of which with the metal of the strip ensures extremely gentle friction.
In a variant not shown, the peripheral ring has a concave section on the outside providing above all the advantage of better handling and more precise handling of the device.
It can also be noted that the reinforcement for guiding the tape, the outer face of which is approximately flat, makes it possible to place the case upright on a table without risking it falling and rolling on the ground.
To the technical advantages provided by the device described, mainly constituted by the simplicity of the assembly of the case, the functional assembly of the elements which constitute it, the guiding of the tape and its tangential winding on the drum, there are added the aesthetic advantages of the possible embodiments. , two examples of which have been described and represented among many other possible ones, offering a new and particularly attractive aspect of such devices.
