Photoelektrischer Glanzmesser
Fig. 1 eine Draufsicht auf den Glanzmesser und
Photoelectric gloss meter
The present invention relates to a photoelectric gloss meter for determining the reflectivity of a surface with the aid of a light beam directed by the latter onto a photocell and a millivoltmeter connected to the photocell.
The photoelectric gloss meter according to the invention differs from known gloss meters of this type in that the housing containing the photocell can be pivoted along a circular arc path, the center of which lies at the intersection of the beam axis with the surface to be tested.
In contrast to the known gloss meters, the design according to the invention enables not only the determination of the degree of reflection of the surface to be tested, but also precise measurements of the reflectivity in the reflection angle ranges deviating from the gloss direction. The graphical representation of the values determined in this way, for example, provides a precise overview of the degree of reflection and the type and manner of light scattering and thus enables clear conclusions to be drawn about the quality and character of the tested surface.
In contrast to the known gloss meters, the gloss meter according to the invention is also particularly suitable for testing regularly or irregularly curved surfaces.
In the drawing, an example embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown, namely shows:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the gloss meter and
FIG. 2 shows a view of the gloss meter in the direction of arrow II drawn in FIG. 1.
In the example shown, 1 denotes the housing of a light source with a slit diaphragm 2 for the passage or exit of a narrow band of light. The housing 1 of the light source is arranged on a support 3 formed by a horizontal plate, which in turn is height-adjustable on the vertical column 4 of a stand 4, 5 and can be locked in any desired position by means of a wing screw 6. A circular ring segment 7 is also fastened to the plate 3 by means of screws 8. This circular ring segment has a circular arc-shaped slot 7a, which serves as a guide track for a likewise circular-arc-shaped slot 9.
The center of the circular arc-shaped guide track 7a lying on the beam axis 10 of the light source 1 is designated by Z. 11 denotes a rod-shaped spacer element which is fastened to the plate 3 and opens out at one end into a tip, the latter lying in the center Z of the circular-arc-shaped guide track 7a. With respect to the beam axis 10, the spacing rod 11 encloses an angle α of 450. A second guide track, which is concentric to the circular arc track 7a and is used for additional guidance of a housing 13 containing a photocell, is designated by 12. The housing 13 containing the photocell can be coupled to the slide 9 by means of a clamping device (not shown) that can be actuated by a lever 14.
Said housing 13 is provided with a marking line 15 which is intended to interact with an angular scale 16 of the carriage 9. A curved surface is also designated by 17, the reflectivity of which is to be measured with the aid of the device described above.
The photocell housed in the housing 13 is connected to a millivoltmeter via the terminals 13a and 13b and an electrical line (not shown), while the light source 1 or its incandescent body via the terminals la and 1h and a line (not shown) is in connection with a transformer which, for example, has a secondary voltage of, for example, 24 volts.
To test the curved surface 17, the gloss meter described above is set up in the manner shown in FIG. 1 opposite the surface mentioned, this surface being lightly touched by the tip of the distancing rod 11. When the light source 1 is switched on, a band of light or a light beam falls on the surface to be tested 17 and is mainly reflected by the latter at a reflection angle corresponding to the angle of incidence. The housing 13, coupled to the slide 9, with the photocell is now pivoted along the circular arc paths 7a and 12 until the light beam reflected from the test surface 17 falls on the photocell housed in the housing 13.
The voltage generated by the photo element is now read on the millivoltmeter (not shown), whereby the maximum pointer deflection of the millivoltmeter can easily be determined by moving the photocell or housing 13 back and forth. The angular position of the photocell or the housing 13 corresponding to the highest measured value coincides with the so-called gloss direction. Now, by pivoting the lever 14, the housing 13 with the photocell is uncoupled from the carriage 9, the carriage 9 being locked in the circular arc path 7a at the same time. The marking line 15 arranged on the housing 13 is still located opposite the zero line of the angular scale 16 arranged on the slide.
If the housing 13 with the photocell is now swiveled in one direction or the other with the slide 9 locked, being guided through the second circular arc path 12, the measuring mark 15 moves away from the zero line of the angular scale 16 and at the same time the photocell moves away from the so-called gloss direction . Whenever the measuring mark 15 coincides with another graduation of the angle scale 16, the voltage generated by the scattered light at the corresponding angle of reflection is read on the millivoltmeter and noted or appropriately entered in a coordinate system in which the measured values are the ordinates and the angular divisions form the abscissas. The diagram obtained in this way now enables very precise conclusions to be drawn about the type and quality or smoothness of the tested surface.
Instead of the slit diaphragm 2, a perforated diaphragm could of course also be used. It would also be possible to fasten the spacing rod 11 instead of to the plate 3 on the carriage 9; Likewise, it is also conceivable to make the spacing rod longitudinally displaceable and lockable in the desired position in which its tip is hit by the light beam 10.
Instead of the drawn and described mechanical an optical distancing device can be used, namely z. B. in the form of two light sources attached to the plate 3 with converging light bundles 18 and 19 which intersect at the intersection point Z lying on the beam axis 10 of the light source 1. If the distance between the device and the surface 17 to be tested is correctly set, the light reflections generated by the light beams 18 and 19 on the surface 17 coincide, while if the distance is incorrectly set on the surface 17, two spaced light points appear.
