La fig. 1 est une vue en coupe, selon la ligne 1-1 de la fig. 2, d'une partie de ladite forme d'exécution, le fond étant simplement engagé à l'intérieur de la carrure; les fig. 2, 3 et 4 sont des coupes radiales, partielles, respectivement -selon les lignes 2-2, 3-3 et 4-4 de la fig. 1 ; la fig. 5 est une vue en coupe selon la ligne 5-5 de la fig. 6, montrant le fond et la carrure en position de blocage ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The present invention relates to a waterproof watch case comprising an external element and an internal element formed by a back and a middle part and engaged one in the other, and a sealing gasket carried by one of said elements and pressed axially against one shoulder of the other, watch case in which the external element has internal projections distributed around its periphery and the internal element has external projections also distributed around its periphery and engaged on said internal projections to fix the two elements to each other,
wherein further each of said protrusions is limited axially on one side by at least a portion of regulated surface of generatrices perpendicular to the axis of the box, forming an oblique ramp, and in which said ramps have inclinations and orientations such that said ramp of each projection of one of the elements bears against a corresponding ramp of similar inclination of the other.
Watch cases of this type, already known, avoid the drawbacks of bayonet closure devices and those of screw closure devices. The oblique ramps progressively engage each other when the back is rotated relative to the caseband in the direction of engagement. This engagement therefore causes a progressive compression of the lining, but the blocking of the back of the middle part is obtained by a rotational movement of much smaller amplitude than is the case in screw closure devices.
The low inclination of the ramps makes it possible to compress the lining very strongly and ensures the blocking of the back relative to the caseband by a wedging effect. However, in known watch cases of the type mentioned above, complete disengagement of the back cannot be effected by a single counterclockwise rotation movement. Indeed, once the projections are clear of each other, it is still necessary to extract the bottom by moving it axially. It can even happen,
if the two elements are not kept in the exact orientation which allows them to be released, that the peripheral projections of these elements again hook to each other during the rotary movement in the counterclockwise direction.
The present invention therefore aims to improve the waterproof watch case which is the subject of the main patent and aims to create a watch case the back of which can be entirely disengaged from the middle part by a single small amplitude rotary movement. in the anti-clockwise direction, and this without the amplitude of the rotational movement which causes the locking is increased in large proportions, this amplitude remaining much lower than what is encountered in screw closure devices.
For this, the watch case according to the present invention is characterized in that the projections of at least one of said elements have, on a portion of their contour, an oblique flank, each of these flanks forming a ramp. extending, when the box is closed, facing an end portion of one of the projections of the other element, so as to abut against it during a relative rotation of the elements in the direction of release, and these ramps being oriented so as to cause an axial displacement of one element relative to the other, separating these elements from one another.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the box according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view, taken along line 1-1 of FIG. 2, of part of said embodiment, the back being simply engaged inside the caseband; figs. 2, 3 and 4 are partial, radial sections, respectively -according to lines 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4 of FIG. 1; fig. 5 is a sectional view along line 5-5 of FIG. 6, showing the back and the middle part in the locked position;
figs. 6, 7 and 8 are partial radial sections, respectively along lines 6-6, 7-7 and 8-8 of FIG. 5, and fig. 9 is a partial schematic perspective view of the middle part of said embodiment. The watch case shown in the drawing comprises a caseband 16 and a bottom 17 of circular shapes. In the lower annular face of the frame 16, a groove 18 of rectangular profile is made, in which an annular seal 19 is engaged.
Opposite this groove, extends an annular rim 20 which forms the periphery of the bottom 17 and which has a flat shoulder 21. Towards the interior, this shoulder 21 is limited by an annular wall segment 22 which is engaged at the end. 'inside the middle 16. Opposite the upper edge of the wall 22, the middle 16 has a groove 23 which extends over its entire periphery.
As in the watch case which is the subject of the main patent, the caseband 16 and the wall 22 of the back 17, each have three projections 24, 25 which each extend over approximately one third of the periphery of the element which them. door. In plan, the projections 25 of the back and the projections 24 of the middle part are limited over the greater part of their length by spiral edges 26 and 27. As seen in fig. 1, the contour of the protrusions 24 and 25 is such that the protrusions 25 of the back can interlock between the protrusions 24 of the caseband when the back is put in place.
Axially, the projections 24 and 25 are each limited on one side by a flat face (28, 29) and on the other side by faces 30 and 31, the generatrices of which are radial, but which extend obliquely. As a result, the thickness of the projections 24, 25 varies along the periphery of the element which carries them. As can be seen by comparing fig. 1 in fig. 2, 3 and 4, each projection 25 has the greatest thickness at the point where its width is also the greatest. The same is true for each of the projections 24 of the caseband 16.
When the back and the caseband are engaged one in the other, and are in the position shown in FIG. 1, the part of each projection 25 which is limited by an edge 27, is located opposite a complementary portion of one of the projections 24 of the middle part, this complementary portion being limited by an edge 26.
As seen in Figs. 3 and 4, the portion of the oblique face 31 of the projection 25 which is located opposite the portion of the corresponding projection 24 delimited by the edge 26, is constantly at the same level as the corresponding portion of the face 30 of this projection 24. The two faces 30 and 31 of each projection form ramps which, when the base is rotated in the direction of arrow A (fig. 1), engage one another and cause the fastening of the back 17 to the case 16.
When the back is fixed to the caseband (fig. 5), the portions of the projections 24 and 25, which are limited by the edges 26 and 27, are engaged with one another. As these portions extend over the greater part of the length of the projections, the contact between the bottom and the middle part extends over the greater part of the periphery of these elements.
Each of the projections 24 and 25 comprises yet another portion of short length which is limited by an oblique flank (32, 33) forming a lateral ramp (fig. 2). This ramp 32 or 33 extends from the place where the thickness and the width of the projection are maximum to the place where its thickness and its width are minimum. As seen in Figs. 1 and 2, these ramps 32 and 33 are oriented one downward and the other upward.
Each ramp 32 of a projection 24 extends opposite the ramp 33 of a projection 25 and the lower edge (fig. 2) of the ramp 33 of each projection 25, forms a line which, at each of its points , is at a level lower than the corresponding point of the line which marks the upper edge of the ramp 32 opposite which it is located, these corresponding points being equidistant from the axis of the box.
Thus, when the bottom 17 is engaged in the caseband 16, the portions of its projections 25 which are limited by the edges 27, are located opposite the groove 23, while the portions of its projections which are limited by the ramps 33 are located partially opposite the groove 23 and partially opposite a ramp 32.
If, from the position shown in fig. 1, the base 17 is rotated in the direction of arrow A, the axial ramps 31 engage on the ramps 30, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8. The obliqueness of these ramps causes an axial displacement of the base 17 in the direction of the caseband 16 and the shoulder 27 compresses the lining 19, ensuring the sealed closure of the case.
If, on the other hand, from the position of FIG. 1, the back is rotated in the direction opposite to that of the arrow A, the lower edges of the lateral ramps 33 each engage on one of the ramps 32. The back is subjected to an axial force tending to move it away from the caseband and emerges from itself.
In fig. 9, we see in perspective, # ctive, the shape of one of the projections 24 of the caseband 16. The upper face 28 of this projection is flat and perpendicular
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to the axis of the box described. Downwards, in this figure, the projection 24 is limited by an oblique ramp 30, the edge 26 of which can be seen. The internal face of the projection 24 is frustoconical with an upwardly directed opening. It connects, at the place of greatest width and thickness of the projection 24, with the lateral ramp 32.
The edge 27 of one of the projections 25 of the back cover and the upper edge of the ramp 33 of another projection 25 are shown in phantom lines in the position they occupy when the back is freely engaged in the caseband, before the blocking. As can be seen in this figure, the upper edge of the oblique ramp 33 extends higher than the lower edge of the corresponding lateral ramp 32, while the edge 27 is located slightly below the edge 26.
The device described above has the advantage of allowing not only extremely easy and rapid positioning of said base, but also axial disengagement which takes place in a single movement without it being necessary to search for the base. position in which the back can be taken out of the caseband.
In addition, this device has the advantage of being able to be implemented in exactly the same way as a screw closure device. The bottom has notches (not shown) at the periphery of its lower face which allow it to be moved by means of a standard key. As a variant, it could also have panels or any other fastening means.
The device described can be realized by giving the portions of the projections which are limited by the spiral edges 26 and 27 a relatively great length; as seen in fia. 1 and 5, these edges occupy more than three quarters of the length of the protrusions. When the bottom is locked, each of the ramps 31 engages over the greater part of its length on the ramp 30 of the corresponding projection 24 and experience has shown that this is achieved by a very low amplitude rotational movement. , a perfectly sealed closure.
The side ramps 32 and 33, as well as the axial ramps 30 and 31, can be machined with precision, and in large series.
In the device described above, as in that which is the subject of the main patent, the inclination of the axial ramps 30 and 31, with respect to a plane perpendicular to the axis is very low. It thus makes it possible to achieve progressive compression of the lining. On the other hand, as can be seen in the drawing, the inclination of the side ramps 32 and 33 is much greater. These ramps can therefore cause an axial displacement of a relatively large magnitude pair a rotational movement of very small amplitude.
The device described therefore combines the advantages of a progressive compression of the lining, as encountered in screw closures, with those of complete disengagement of the back relative to the caseband, by a single movement. of rotation of these two elements, this movement having a much smaller total amplitude than is the case in a screw closure device.
