La fig. 1 est une vue en élévation longitudinale d'une installation de séchage équipée du dispositif;
Device for guiding a flexible strip
The present invention relates to a device for guiding a flexible strip along an arcuate path.
In the course of drying or other treatments to paper, cellulose sheets or other flexible web-shaped materials, it is increasingly common to advance these materials without using mechanical conveyors for this. . To this end, mechanical conveyors are replaced by devices in which the fluid used to carry out the treatment is directed in a jet against this material.
In order to be able to have as large an evaporation surface as possible in a given space, the flexible strip generally follows a zigzag path.
The devices known until now include, for guiding the strip at the point where it changes direction, the mobile rotating rollers. As the material supported by these rollers is in general subject to considerable dimensional changes during the drying operation, the adjustment of the rotational speeds of these rolls presents great difficulties. It is in fact essential that the speed of rotation of each roll corresponds exactly to the speed of the strip portion in contact with this roll. Despite the complicated devices comprising differential gears and sliding couplings which are generally provided, the known guide devices still present a certain risk of the material guided on the rollers slipping.
However, as soon as such a slip occurs, the surface of the strip partially deteriorates.
The aim of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. For this, the device according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a duct traversed by an air circulation and having an arcuate and perforated wall extending opposite the strip. It is further characterized in that the duct has on each side of the perforated wall a slot extending transversely with respect to the path of the strip and the shape of which is such that the air circulating in the duct t and escaping by the slots form two air cushions under pressure between the strip and the arched wall, the strip being supported and guided by the air cushions.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a view in longitudinal elevation of a drying installation equipped with the device;
fig. 2 is a front elevational view of this device, and
fig. 3 a cross section along the line
III-III of fig. 2.
In fig. 1 a drying installation 1 is traversed by a strip of paper 2 describing a series of horizontal paths. Boxes 3 placed between the horizontal passages and supplied with compressed air blow jets of air onto the strip 2 through perforated walls which they present at their upper part and at their lower part. These air jets support band 2 and at the same time move it forward. The air which leaves the boxes 3 is collected in exhaust ducts 4 placed between the boxes 3. The air which is collected by the ducts 4 is brought into a circulation and heating device which regenerates it and returns it. in the boxes 3. At each end of the installation 1 are mounted devices 5 which guide the strip 2 along a semi-circular path and which are shown in detail in FIGS. 2 and 3.
Es each include a duct which is supplied with pressurized air by a pipe 6, connected to the two ends of each duct. These conduits comprise a flat wall 7 and a semi-circular wall 8, which is directed towards the strip 2. The wall 8 has a series of openings 9 distributed uniformly over the entire length of the conduit. In the vicinity of each end of the wall 7, these ducts also have a longitudinal slot 10, the shape of which is such that the air which leaves the duct through each slot forms a narrow curtain directed towards the strip, so as to limit a space closed between the strip and the duct.
Inside this space, the air pressure is sufficient for the strip to be able to rotate around the wall 8 without being in contact with it and without floating. These slots 10 are oriented in such a way that the air curtain is oblique and directed towards the interior of said space.
Instead of being mounted in a device for drying a paper web, the device described above could also be used in a drying installation of another type, in which the web is driven by conveyors.
