Magnetic hysteresis drive transmission device The invention relates to a magnetic drive transmission device and makes use of the hysteresis effect of magnetic materials, which has already been used in a known hysteresis clutch. This type of coupling has the shape of two rotatable parts, one of which is provided with a number of magnetic pole pairs to the other, the latter having a rotationally symmetrical shape and made of a material with large hysteresis losses, that is, a permanently magnetic material .
Poles are induced in this material that tend to maintain their magnetic polarity so that when one part is rotated, the other follows in synchronous rotation.
If the two parts are forced to run at different speeds, the clutch will slip and the maximum torque that can be borne will be proportional to the number of pole pairs, the volume of the material with high hysteresis effect and the area of the hysteresis loop, which is imposed on the material.
According to the invention, a magnetic hysteresis drive transmission device is created with a driving and a driven part, which are separated from one another by an air gap through which a torque can be transmitted by magnetic field forces between polarizing poles of one part and induced poles of the other part, which device is characterized in that the first-mentioned part comprises two sets of interdigitated pole pieces which extend from two magnetically separated rings of opposite polarity towards the other part, within which first-mentioned part the magnetic flux between successive pole pieces runs.
The device can have an electromagnet which is arranged with respect to the driving and driven parts in such a way that when energized it induces a corresponding magnetism in the magnet poles. If a stationary electromagnet is used for this purpose, electrical sliding contacts for the drive can be avoided.
The drive device can furthermore have means for determining a slip between the driving and driven parts. This can in turn be achieved without sliding contacts, in that one of the parts is provided with at least one inhomogeneous part, which causes a change in the magnetic resistance in the magnetic flux between the parts when a slip occurs, and by means for determining and measuring an electrical signal that is generated as a result of the change in flow.
For a better understanding of the invention, the same is now explained with reference to the accompanying drawing, for example.
Fig. 1 shows a simplified representation of an axial section through an electromagnetic hitch ment.
FIG. 2 also shows a simplified representation of the same coupling, partly in section along lines A-A and B-B, partly in view according to arrows C-C in FIG. 1.
3A-3C each show a different electrical circuit for achieving a measurement or display of the slip speed.
Fig. 4 shows an axial section through a Ge gear, the couplings according to FIGS. 1 and 2 contains. FIGS. 5A-5D illustrate torque characteristics of the clutch and the transmission according to FIG.
1 and 2, a drive shaft 1 extends through one side wall 2a of a clutch housing 2, where a wheel 3 made of non-magnetic material is wedged onto the shaft 1. The wheel 3 be consists of a central hub 3a and six radially outwardly projecting arms 3b, which are arranged according to FIG. 2 with a pitch of 60 around the hub 3a. The arms 3b carry a multi-part ring structure 4 which has pole pieces which are attached to the arms 3b with the aid of screws 5.
The ring structure 4 also has a central ring 6 made of non-magnetic mate rial, which serves to keep two rings 7 and 8 from each other, on each of which a set of six pole pieces 7a and 8a is formed.
As shown, the ring 7 is attached directly to the arms 3b by means of the screws 5, which also serve to connect the central ring 6 to the wheel 3, while the ring 8 is secured to the central ring 6 by means of screws 9. The pole pieces 7a and 8a extend against the coupling axis and engage between each other for the purpose of forming against the axis, lying on a common circular cylindrical annular surface end surfaces which are symmetrically arranged with respect to a radial plane.
A driven shaft 10 extends through the other side wall 2b of the housing 2 and is rotatably supported by bearings both in the housing wall 2b and in the hub 3a. Inside the Ge housing 2 and symmetrically with respect to the center line CL in Fig. 1, a hub 11 is keyed on the shaft 10, which consists of a material with low reluctance and at its start a ring 12 made of a material with large hysteresis effect, e.g. B. aluminum-nickel-cobalt alloy carries.
The ring 12 is treated so that it shows a preferred magnetic axis in the radial direction. The circumference of the ring 12, together with the end faces of the pole pieces 7a and 8a, defines a narrow annular air gap 13.
A cylindrical part 2c of the coupling housing 2 carries an annular electromagnet outside the assembled ring structure 4, which electromagnet has a field coil 14 between a pair of annular pole pieces 15 and 16. The ring-shaped pole pieces 15 and 16 are spaced apart from one another by the housing part 2c serving as a yoke and are kept at a distance from the rings 7 and 8, leaving an air gap 17. Between tween the field coil 14 and the opposite housing part 2c is a signal coil 18, the purpose of which is described below.
In operation, the field coil 14 is excited by being connected to a direct current source, the magnetic flux running as follows: From the cylindrical yoke section 2c of the housing 2 to the ring-shaped pole piece 15, via the air gap 17 to the ring 7 and to the six pole pieces 7a and then through the air gap 13 to the ring 12. From a point within the hub 11 opposite the adjacent pole piece 8a, the magnetic flux re-enters the ring 12; then it crosses the air gap 13 to the six pole pieces 8a and to the ring 8, after which the flow from the ring 8 over the air gap 17 to the annular pole piece 16 and finally closes the circuit in the cylindrical part 2c of the housing 2.
When the shaft 1 is rotated, the shaft 10 follows this movement as long as the electromagnet is excited, provided that the torque to be transmitted is less than the slip torque.
The mechanical characteristics for the device described can be found from the following considerations: The work that is lost by one revolution by slipping the clutch is equal to the torque (73 multiplied by 2 7 or the product of the number (N) of poles pairs 7a, 8a, the volume (V) of the ring 12 and the area (A) of the BH curve (hysteresis curve) of the material from which the ring 12 is made:
EMI0002.0040
Thus, by changing the strength of the electromagnetic field and thus the value A, the torque at which the clutch slips can be changed.
During the slip of the clutch there is relative movement between the structure of the pole pieces 7a and 8a and the ring 12; and by designing the ring 12 in such a way that the magnetic flux has a changed magnetic resistance at zones 12a of the same, certain changes in the magnetic flux can be achieved in the entire magnetic circuit, which flux changes in the coils 14 and 18 are certain , induce a voltage proportional to the slip speed.
In the present example, the inhomogeneous parts are formed by grooves 12a which are arranged at points between the successive pole pieces 7a and 8a in order to vary the magnetic resistance of the flux when the clutch is slipped. The generated signal voltage can be taken from the separate coil 18, if desired.
In FIG. 1, the connections of the coils 14 and 18 are routed schematically to a terminal block 19 which has two connection terminals a and b for the field coil 14 and two connection terminals c and d for the coil 18 .
3A-3C show three possibilities for achieving a display or measurement of the slip speed, FIGS. 3A and 3B showing the deriving of a slip signal from the field coil 14, while the circuit of FIG. 3C of the separate signal coil 18 use makes that is applied to the field coil 14.
3A, a resistor R is connected in series with one conductor between the field coil 14 and the voltage source DC and a measuring instrument is placed across the resistor R to show and measure the change in the voltage drop across the resistor R when a Slip occurs as a measure of the slip speed. According to Fig. 3B, the field coil 14 is connected to a direct current source DC via the primary winding of a transformer T,
in the secondary winding an alternating voltage proportional to the slip speed is induced when a relative rotation occurs between the driving and the driven part of the clutch. The AC voltage signal is displayed on a measuring instrument M.
According to FIG. 3C, the field coil 14 is excited by a direct voltage source DC, while a measuring instrument M is connected to the signal coil 18, which displays the voltage induced in the coil 18 as a measure of the slip speed when a slip occurs.
An application of the clutch described above with reference to FIGS. 1-3 is in a two-speed transmission, as shown in Fig. 4 in axial section through the coaxially arranged to drive and output shafts. Those parts of the transmission that consist of non-magnetic mate rial are fiert with dashed lines.
According to FIG. 4, the transmission has a multi-part cylindrical housing 20 with flanged end plates 21 and 22. A drive shaft 23 is supported by a bearing in the end plate 21 and extends in the axial direction into the interior of the housing 20, where it is supported by a second bearing is supported in an exception menen hub 24 of the output shaft 25, which passes through the end shield 22 and is rotatably mounted in ben demsel.
A power transmission between tween the drive shaft 23 and the output shaft 25 can only take place if at least one of two similar electromagnetic clutches 26 and 27 is energized, each of which is similar both in structure and in operation to those shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 . The components of a clutch 26 are denoted by the same reference numerals as in Fig. 1, from which we can easily understand.
The stationary parts of the couplings are held together by non-magnetic bolts 28 which pass through one end shield 22 and the yokes 2c and are screwed into a ring 29 which in turn is connected to the other end shield 21. A non-magnetic, provided with a central opening spacer 30 is arranged between the two yokes 2c and the adjacent pole pieces of the electromagnets of the clutches and serves to separate the magnetic circuits of the two clutches.
The outer, rotatable parts of the couplings 26 and 27, which in each case consist of the rings 7 and 8 with the pole pieces 7a and 8a and the magnetically non-conductive ring 6, are connected to each other by bolts 31, which also secure the parts mentioned serve on a radial flange of the hub 24 from the drive shaft.
The inner rotatable parts of the couplings 26 and 27 are arranged so that they can be rotated by means of the drive shaft 23. The inner part of the coupling 27 is mounted directly on the shaft 23 near its inner end, whereas that of the coupling 26 can be driven from the shaft 23 via a reduction gear.
For the latter purpose, the inner rotatable face part of the coupling 26 is fastened on a sleeve 32 BE, which is arranged around the shaft 23 and is rotatable independently of this. A gear 33 is mounted on one end of the sleeve 32 and is driven by a gear 34 which sits on the drive shaft 23 through interconnected gears 35 and 36 which are mounted on a rotatable countershaft 37 ble.
In operation, a direct drive connection of the shaft 25 with the drive shaft 23 can be achieved by energizing the clutch 27 alone, or it is possible to achieve a lower speed of the output shaft 25 by energizing the clutch 26 and disengaging the clutch 27. It can be shown that if both clutches are excited at the same time, twice the normal torque can be transmitted at low speed.
Fig. 5A shows the torque characteristic of a hysteresis clutch in a right-angled coordinate system, the abscissa representing the rotational speed of the output shaft and the ordinate representing the positive or negative torque. The line XYZ represents the critical torque range in which the outer and inner rotatable parts of the coupling rotate synchronously. It is understandable that for different points along the line XYZ, the induced poles of the driven part are shifted by different amounts with respect to the pole pieces of the outer rotatable part.
For example, at point Y, at which the torque is zero, poles (of opposite polarity) are induced symmetrically around the inner rotatable part, that is, at points that are immediately adjacent to the pole pieces of the outer part, as in FIG. 5A is illustrated by the diagram Y ver.
If the torque is increased along the line YX, the driven part will tend to magnetically lag with respect to the driving part, and the location of the induced poles of the inner rotatable part will be such that those induced by any particular pole piece of the outer rotatable part Polarity begins to be reversed by the adjacent pole piece of the outer part, as shown in the diagram at X of Figure 5A.
Between the points X and D , the torque that is transmitted, if any, is caused by eddy currents that are induced in the inner part.
Similar considerations apply to negative torques, which are shown along the line YZ and occur when the outer part absorbs torques from the inner part when running synchronously. Beyond point Z, every additional torque absorbed by the outer part is caused by eddy current braking effects. In both cases, the work transferred as a result of eddy currents is shown by a hatched area,
whereas the unshaded area DXYO illustrates the work done by the hysteresis. The eddy current effects can be kept negligibly small by careful dimensioning and design of the driven part of the clutch.
Fig. 5B and 5C show the related Charak teristiken of the clutches 26 and 27 when they are individually energized. If only the clutch 26 is excited, the output shaft rotates at high speed, at which an operating point R is selected. If only the clutch 27 is energized, the output shaft rotates at low speed, and with a corresponding torque, the operating point S results.
Under the condition that the two clutches have the same size and are excited with the same constant field strength, the charac teristics shown in Fig. 5D results as the sum of the characteristics shown in Fig. 5B and 5C. FIG. 5D shows that twice the torque can be transmitted at the low speed. The period of time during which the two clutches are energized who should remain limited because of the risk of inadmissible heating due to slipping of the faster clutch 26; this operating mode is therefore reserved for use in emergencies.
The magnetic drive devices described above are particularly suitable for use in protective gas atmospheres without oxygen, in which clutches with sliding friction surfaces work unsatisfactorily or uncertainly.
Since roller bearings are more suitable than plain bearings and sliding surfaces for operation in inaccessible places where they are not accessible for maintenance, the drive device described, which does not result in sliding friction, is particularly advantageous.
The magnetic drive transmission device can therefore advantageously be used for the transmission of rotary movements in the interior of the pressure vessels of core reactors or within a reactor. By automatic monitoring or continuous observation of the slip indicator, an early indication of inadmissible inhibitions in the mechanisms driven by the device can be achieved.
Instead, or in addition, the slip indicator can be used from time to time to measure the minimum torque required to move the drive devices so that the unforeseen occurrence of friction in the parts driven by the clutches can be determined. This can be important if the drive device is used for a purpose in which it is only in operation intermittently.
For example, in a nuclear reactor, the mechanical drives for removing the fuel elements are only used at infrequent intervals, but they must work reliably. In such a case, the magnetic drive device can be energized from time to time so that not only its own operability, but also the free running of the mechanical parts can be checked with the help of the slip indicator, which must be driven by the device.
