Description

Method for working the surface of a metal part, excluding timepieces The present invention relates to a method for working the surface of a metal part, for example for creaming, matting or polishing it.

The creaming of metal parts, which is carried out with the aim of bleaching them, has until now been carried out by spraying cream of tartar, either dry or in slurry, by means of a gun, by compressed air. This process requires repeated handling of the part resulting in a waste of time, and in addition the results obtained differ greatly from one part to another.

The present invention aims to avoid these drawbacks.

To this end, the invention relates to a method for working the surface of a metal part, for example for creaming, matting or polishing it, charac terized in that the workpiece is immersed in a bath containing minus an abrasive element in the form of powder, that this bath is stirred to keep the abrasive in suspension and that simultaneously this bath is subjected to ultrasonic waves.

To subject the bath to ultrasonic waves, the receptacle containing the bath and the part to be treated can be connected to a transducer or the latter directly immersed in the bath.

The power of the ultrasound generator will preferably be greater than 300 W and better still greater than 500 W. The frequency of this generator may vary between 20,000 and 30,000 kHz.

Cream of tartar alone or mixed with pumice or silica carbides can be used as an abrasive element.

By proceeding in the manner described, it is possible, by the choice of the abrasive elements and of the duration of the immersion, for example to put down a shiny deposit at will, to polish all or part of a part and in particular to get rid of his silver makeup a deposit of money.

The parts can be soaked in the bath containing the abrasive element (s) as they come out of the silver bath and without intermediate handling.
