Motor-driven toothbrush
Toothbrushes have become known whose trimmings are connected to an output member of an electric motor which is arranged in a housing designed as a handle; the arrangement is such that the trimming carrier executes a back and forth movement in the longitudinal direction of the brush. This is not only intended to facilitate the handling of the toothbrush for the user by automatically executing the back and forth movement, but this back and forth movement can also be carried out significantly faster by means of the electric motor than is possible by hand, which promised an improvement in the cleaning effect .
It has now been shown that a good cleaning effect is by no means so dependent on the usual back and forth movement of the brush; this has a sawing effect and leads to gum irritation and tooth neck damage; In addition, perfect cleaning of the interdental spaces is not achieved, since the brush, which is moved quickly back and forth by a motor, moves over the teeth without allowing the bristles time to penetrate these spaces. For good cleaning and treatment that is gentle on the teeth, on the other hand, moving the brush up and down has proven to be significantly better.
The bristles can penetrate the spaces between the teeth and there is no sawing effect on the tooth neck. It is particularly useful when the brush executes a reciprocating pivoting movement about an axis parallel to the longitudinal direction of the brush, which leads to the bristles engaging and disengaging gently with the spaces between the teeth. This reciprocating pivoting movement is not very easy to carry out by hand, which is why it is usually omitted to the detriment of the user of the brush. The present invention therefore provides a motor-driven toothbrush of the type mentioned at the outset, in which a gear which converts the rotating movement of the output member into an oscillating movement of the trimming carrier is arranged between the rotating output member of the electric motor and the trimming carrier. Appropriately, this gear has a rocking crank.
A change gear for changing the number of vibrations can also be provided.
In the drawing, an embodiment of the subject invention is shown schematically in longitudinal section.
In the drawing, 1 is a housing designed as a handle, in which an electric motor 3 fed by a battery 2 is accommodated. The output member of the electric motor 3 is connected to a change gear 4, which is connected to a double crank gear 5 for converting the rotating movement of the output member of the motor into an oscillating movement of a holder 6.
In the holder 6, the fitting carrier 7 of a toothbrush is expediently inserted removably.
When the motor 3 is working, the facing carrier 7 is set in an oscillating movement about its longitudinal axis, so that the facing 8 executes the desired pivoting movement. The expedient multi-stage or continuously variable transmission 4 allows the speed of this pivoting movement to be regulated and thus to adapt to the most varied of requirements.
Instead of the battery 2, a rechargeable accumulator can also be provided and / or the apparatus can be designed for connection to the mains and for this purpose can be provided with a supply cable.
The holder 6, which is pivotably mounted about its axis in the housing 1, can be provided with a quick-release coupling that can be operated from the outside and can be designed for inserting the free end of the trimming support of a normal toothbrush.
