Fig. 11 einen Schnitt nach der Linie X-X in Fig. 10.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Heat exchanger The invention relates to a heat exchanger which is easy to manufacture and is also suitable for series production.
The heat exchanger according to the invention is characterized in that at least one heat exchange element is provided at least approximately rectangular cross section with corrugations running in the flow direction of the heat exchange means in the flow channel formed by the element, in the side walls of which a plurality of adjoining inlet and outlet openings are cut, the in one Inlet openings made in the side wall are arranged offset from the outlet openings made in the opposite wall, and the corrugations only occupy part of the cross section of the flow channel.
The invention is shown schematically and by way of example in the drawing and is described in more detail below with reference to these. 1 to 3 show various embodiments of a heat exchange element belonging to the heat exchanger according to the invention, in cross section and on a larger scale, FIG. 4 shows a horizontal section through a heat exchange element according to FIG. 3, FIGS. 5 and 6 other possible embodiments of a heat exchange element according to the invention, in cross section, FIG. 7 a horizontal section through a heat exchange element according to FIG. 6,
8 shows a partial section through a cylindrical heat exchanger according to the invention constructed from heat exchange elements according to the invention, sectioned along line AA according to FIG. 9, FIG. 9 shows a section through a heat exchanger according to FIG. 8, sectioned along line BB according to FIG. 8, FIG. 10 a device for producing the inlets and outlets of a cylindrical heat exchanger according to the invention, schematically,
11 shows a section along the line X-X in FIG. 10.
The heat exchange element according to FIG. 1 is formed from two flat metal sheets la and 1b which are held apart by side walls 2a and 2b. Corrugated inserts 3a and 3b, which are spaced from one another and from the side walls, are inserted into the flow channel formed in this way. The waves of the inserts 3a, 3b run at right angles to the side walls.
The embodiment according to FIG. 2 differs from that according to FIG. 1 in that special side walls are dispensed with and these are instead formed by the bent end regions of the metal sheets 4a, 4b. As can be seen from the figure, these can be bent so that they lie on top of one another to form a flange. In order to prevent the bent parts of the metal sheets 4a, 4b from burning through, they can be protected and supported by strips 5 made of heat-resistant material.
In the modified embodiment according to FIG. 3, a '; Sheet metal 6 bent in a box shape, and in this case too, the side walls or side parts formed thereby can be covered by protective strips 5 made of fire-resistant or heat-resistant material.
The horizontal section through an element according to FIG. 3, shown in FIG. 4, shows above all the arrangement of the inlets and outlets for the heat-exchanging media. It can be seen that inlets 7a on one side and outlets
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
louvers 7b are arranged on the other side and that when several heat exchange elements are laid one on top of the other, as is done to set up a heat exchanger, inlets and outlets alternate with one another on one side.
The inlets and outlets for one medium are indicated by solid arrows and those for the other medium by dashed arrows, and it can be seen that an inlet on one side for one medium is an inlet of the adjacent element on the other side for the other medium is opposite.
In the space remaining between the corrugated inserts, openings 8 can be provided for the introduction of a cleaning fluid. Partition walls 9 are provided between the inlets and outlets, which guide the medium intended for the inlet or outlet openings and prevent the same from mixing.
In the heat exchange elements shown in FIGS. 1 to 4, the corrugated inserts act as secondary heat exchange surfaces. They thus increase the heat exchange area in the flow channels formed by the elements, but each side of the corrugation is exposed to the same heat exchange fluid.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 5, the metal sheets 11, which are held at a distance from one another by the walls 2a, 2b, are inherently corrugated, so that the use of special corrugated inserts is superfluous. However, the corrugations only take up part of the width of the metal sheets 11, so that flat edge parts remain which lie between the side walls 2a, 2b. Since the wave peaks of adjacent sheets lie on top of one another, these waves are expediently embossed in such a way that those of one sheet are at an angle to those of the other.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 6, special side walls were dispensed with and the end regions of the metal sheets 11 were bent over so that they lie on top of one another and form side walls themselves. It can also be seen from FIG. 6 that, in particular in order to be able to provide cleaning openings 8, the waves can be interrupted by flat intermediate parts 12.
In the case of FIG. 5, the corrugations of each sheet are arranged such that the adjacent sheets are at an angle to one another. The corrugations can all run in the same direction in a sheet metal, or they can also be arranged at an angle to one another on each side of the flat parts 12, as can be seen in the horizontal section according to FIG.
In the embodiments according to FIGS. 5 and 6, the corrugated areas form part of the plate 11 and thus form the partition walls between the flow channels. In this way, in contrast to the embodiments according to FIGS. 1 to 4, they form primary heat exchange surfaces in that they are in contact on one side with the hot medium and on the other side with the cold medium. The individual parts of the heat exchange elements according to the invention can be manufactured by unrolling them from the strip and automatically connected with strips of soldering material 10 between the various parts, whereupon the whole is heated and the soldering material is melted.
In the same way, several heat exchange elements can be combined to form a heat exchanger according to the invention. Appropriately, the inlet and outlet openings are not cut into the complete element until after soldering and the required lengths are cut off for each heat exchanger.
The elements according to FIGS. 1 to 7 can be connected to one another in the form of a column or block for the construction of a heat exchanger, so that those for a hot medium alternate with those for a cold medium, or they can, as 8 through 9, as continuous strips are wound around a spool, thereby forming a cylindrical heat exchanger.
The last-mentioned embodiment has proven particularly useful for installation in gas turbine systems, where annular lines are present in existing turbines or compressor systems. The lines that supply a heat-exchanging medium in the radial direction and discharge it in the axial direction can open into a common collector.
The heat exchanger according to the invention according to FIG. 8 is constructed from a heat exchange element similar to that according to FIG. 5, in which such a strip was wound around a coil, whereby an element package generally designated 13 is created. The end faces are closed by end plates 14 which are fastened to end rings 16 by means of screws 15. The end plates 14 have the covers 17 for the inlets 7a and the connecting pieces 18 for the outlets 7b for the gas and also for the inlets 7a 'for the air to be heated and the associated outlets 7b'.
As can be seen, the arrangement is expediently made such that the heat exchanging media flow in in the radial direction, the surface having the inlet openings being covered, while the outlet openings are open to the heat exchanging medium flowing out in the axial direction.
9 shows the staggered inlets 7a and outlets 7b and furthermore grooves 13 made between the rows of inlets and outlets lying on a radius, into which the partition walls 9 according to FIGS. 4 and 7 can engage.
In the embodiments of a heat exchanger made up of individual heat exchange elements shown in FIGS. 8 and 9, openings for the inlets and outlets must be cut into each flow channel consisting of a ring. As illustrated in FIGS. 10 and 11, this is achieved in that each
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
because two complete heat exchange elements are put together and soldered together. One end of each strip is then attached to a supply spool 14 and the spool is rotated. The feed is controlled by rollers 15.
Four cutting knives 16 are combined on a tool 17, and the tool is set in a reciprocating motion about an axis lying parallel to the strips, so that alternately on the right side of the strip above and on the left side of the strip below, or conversely, openings are cut, depending on the respective position of the cutting knife. The speed of the coil is increased in response to the increase in the diameter of the heat exchanger so that the openings are radially in series.
