<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Electric timepiece with alarm Electric timepieces are already known combined with an independent loudspeaker, which can be actuated at predetermined times and acts as a warning device.
However, the existing devices are not satisfactory, having not solved problems such as the easy adjustment of the duration of the ringing, the variation of its tone as well as the sufficiently clear and abrupt cut-off of the sound.
The present invention specifically relates to a timepiece comprising a loudspeaker excited by an oscillator and acting as a warning device which does not have these drawbacks.
This timepiece is characterized by the fact that the oscillator is normally blocked by a control transistor and that when the alarm is triggered, means controlled by the movement bring an accumulator into contact with the base of the control transistor. so as to polarize it and to unblock the oscillator which then excites the loudspeaker and by the fact that the accumulator being discharged and its voltage decreasing the transistor abruptly blocks the oscillator thus stopping the loudspeaker after a predetermined period of time .
The accompanying drawing represents ,. by way of example and in the form of a simplified diagram, an embodiment of the object of the present invention.
The timepiece comprises an electric or electronic movement, not shown, supplied by a battery 1 simultaneously supplying the warning device.
This warning device comprises a sound diffuser circuit having a crystal loudspeaker 2 excited by a step-up transformer 3 itself controlled by the pulses of an over-coupled oscillator. This oscillator is formed by a transformer 4 and by a transistor 5 and is blocked by a control transistor 6. Unblocking of the transistor is obtained by applying to the base of said transistor a sufficient saturation current. This current is supplied by the discharge of an accumulator 7 connected to the base of the transistor when the alarm is triggered.
The trigger device comprises two wheels 8 and 9 forming part of the cog of the movement and making the first one revolution in 24 hours and the second one revolution in 1 hour. Each of these wheels has a clearance 8a, respectively 9a, into which the ends 8b, respectively 9b of the contact levers 8c, respectively 9c fall at each revolution.
The fall of the lever 8c closes a general switch while that of the lever 9c controls the contacts 10 and 10a connecting the accumulator 7 to the base of the transistor 6 as well as the contacts 11 and 11a putting the oscillator on. The use of these two wheels makes it possible to obtain a single trigger in 24 hours at an extremely precise moment.
At the time of triggering, the accumulator 7 discharges so as to bias the transistor which then unlocks the oscillator which in turn excites the loudspeaker. As the accumulator discharges, the current which it supplies decreases until it becomes insufficient to saturate the transistor; the latter then suddenly blocks the oscillator, causing an absolutely clear cut in the sound while the latter is still at full power. Of course, stopping the ringing could be obtained at any time with the aid of a manually operable control switch 12 which returns to its initial position.
Finally, position 13 represents a total stop switch for the sound.

nerie, which remains in this position. Switch 12a serves as a ringing repeater when the cams are in place.
Once the ringing has stopped and after contacts 10 and 11 are disconnected again, battery 1 recharges accumulator 7, thus preparing it for a new ringing. The duration of the latter is of course a function on the one hand of the charge of the accumulator and on the other hand of the current necessary for saturation of the transistor. The duration of the ringing can therefore be adjusted once and for all during assembly by choosing the various elements of the circuit.
It can also be done subsequently by using variable resistors 14 or 15 for example; these resistors could even have a control member appearing on the case of the timepiece and being able to be operated manually by the user. In a variant, it would still be possible to adjust the duration of the ringing by adjusting the duration of the charging of the accumulator. These means allow the duration of the ringing to be extremely flexible, varying from a few seconds to a few hours.
The tone of the ringing tone can also be fixed during assembly, for example by using, for the transformer 4, coils having different numbers of turns; to facilitate the assembly of these coils, they could also be of a different color depending on the desired tones. It would also be possible to adjust the tone at any time by manually controlling a suitable device, for example a shunt deriving part of the magnetic flux from the transformer.
