<I>=</I> C, -fB.
I>X =</I> d.F.
In diesem Falle gilt folgende Beziehung: EA-fA <I>=</I> EB-fB. Hieraus folgt, dass E$ <I>=</I> C2-F.d.
Method and device for comparing two periodic processes and application of the method for regulating The invention relates to a method for comparing two periodic processes, each derived from a periodic or non-periodic measured variable, in which a direct current is generated for each periodic process using an auxiliary capacitor is, whose time average depends on the frequency of the process in question, these two currents being fed in opposite directions to a capacitor acting as a comparator Kon.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that each auxiliary capacitor is charged with the help of a direct voltage and then discharged in a different circuit in which the comparison capacitor is located, each of the periodic processes switching the associated auxiliary capacitor from charging to discharging by means of a relay , and that a voltage source is connected in series with the comparison capacitor, the voltage of which is always at least approximately as large as the voltage of the comparison capacitor, but the latter is opposite.
The invention also relates to a device for carrying out this method, which is characterized by a circuit in which the storage capacitor and the parallel connection of two branches are connected in series, in which each of these branches the series connection of one of the auxiliary capacitors and a contact an associated charging and discharging relay, which relay, in its charging position, connects a DC voltage source with the relevant auxiliary capacitor and, in its discharging position, closes the branch that includes this auxiliary capacitor, further characterized by means,
in order to switch one relay with the frequency of one of the periodic processes and the other relay with the other frequency and through the voltage source connected in series in the mentioned circuit, the voltage of which is always at least approximately as large as the voltage of the storage capacitor, the latter, however, is opposite. The inventions are illustrated below with reference to schematic drawings of several execution examples of the comparative or
Control device explained in more detail. 1 shows a schematic representation of a circuit for comparing the frequencies fA and fs of two periodic processes <I> A </I> and <I> B. </I> The special nature of these processes is important when dealing with the Basic idea of the invention does not apply; To provide an indication, it can be assumed that processes A and B are alternating currents. These alternating currents are used to operate two relays RA and RB; If necessary, the alternating currents are previously converted into electrical pulses that z.
B. have the same frequency; frequency multiplication or division can be used for this purpose, but this option is not dealt with here for the sake of simplicity; the impulses obtained in this way are fed to the relay. In this way, the relays, each of which can assume two different positions, namely position 1 or the loading position and position 2 or the unloading position, are switched with the frequencies fA and f $.
The contact of the relay RA lies together with a capacitor CA acting as an auxiliary capacitor in one of two branches connected in parallel on one side, while the other of these branches comprises the contact of the relay RB and a capacitor C $ acting as an auxiliary capacitor.
These branches are each connected in series with a capacitor Cv which acts as a storage capacitor and whose voltage is denoted by e.
The circuit is completed by a source for a constant direct voltage E and a voltage divider S connected in parallel with it. The contacts 1 of the two relays are each connected to a terminal of the voltage divider S and the connection point of the two capacitors CA and C $ is on the adjustable center contact of the voltage divider.
When the relays are in position 1, the auxiliary capacitor CA is charged to the voltage VA, while the auxiliary capacitor C $ is charged to the voltage VB. When the relays are in position 2, the two auxiliary capacitors are discharged via the storage capacitor Cv; the capacitor CA supplies a direct current iA, while the auxiliary capacitor C $ supplies a direct current i $; the magnitude of these currents results as a time average from the following relationship:
iA <I> = </I> fA # CA # VA and! B = f $ - CB # VB These currents are fed to the capacitor Cv in opposite phase. The above formulas apply precisely because a voltage source <I> SB </I> is connected in series with Cv, which has a voltage which is constantly equal to or approximately equal to the voltage e of the storage capacitor, but the latter is opposite. The dash-dotted line represents the control line through which the control voltage e is fed to the voltage source <I> SB </I>.
The effect of the compensation generated by the voltage source <I> SB </I> is described in more detail below with reference to FIGS. 2 and 3.
In the discharge circuit of the two auxiliary capacitors there are generally several resistors that limit the discharge currents to a permissible value. These resistors are not shown in the circuit diagrams. The product of the capacitance of CA and the value of the limiting resistance should be sufficiently small to ensure a complete or essentially complete discharge of the capacitor CA, taking into account the contact time of the relay RA. The same applies accordingly to the capacitor C $.
The voltage e of the storage capacitor Cv is given by the following formula:
EMI0002.0023
This tension or one of it z. B. by way of amplification, integration and / or differentiation derived variable is a measure of the ratio or the difference between the frequencies f @ and f $. The voltage e can be measured, registered or used to regulate the frequencies in relation to one another.
If the ratio of the frequencies fA / fB by itself remains in the range of a specific value p or if such a control system is used that the ratio of these frequencies at least approximates this value, the quantities CA, VA, C $ and VB are expediently given such values that the following relationship results: CA-VAI CB @ VB <I> = 1 / p </I> This means that i & = i $ if the ratio fA / fB actually has the value p.
If this is the case, the steady-state voltage e has a constant value which can be equal to or deviate from zero.
If the circuit is used in practice, one can e.g. B. ensure that the voltage e influences the generator for the alternating current of frequency f $ in a manner known in control technology, namely in the present case via a proportional controller or an integrating controller or a control device with proportional and integrating Effect so that the ratio .fA / fB is constant. This constant value can be equal to 1, but it can also have a value p other than 1. In the latter case, a circuit for frequency division or multiplication is provided.
The degree p at which the division or multiplication is carried out can be continuously regulated by the ratio VA / VB e.g. by adjusting the voltage divider or by changing the ratio CA / CB.
If you use a controller with an integrating effect or a faster operating controller with a proportional and integrating effect, the integrated deviation from the desired frequency ratio .f @ / f $ <I> = p </I> over the control period becomes almost zero reduced. During this control process it can of course happen that a temporary deviation of the frequency ratio from the value p is intentionally caused or allowed.
If the frequency ratio was previously smaller or larger than p for a while, a compensation must be created for this by keeping this ratio larger or smaller than p for a certain period of time in order to reduce the integrated deviation to zero. Since the goal is to ensure a constant value of p averaged over time, temporary deviations from the setpoint p must take place during the control period.
It is often preferred to carry out the regulation in such a way that the value e is constantly equal to zero or almost zero.
If the frequencies are relatively low, mechanical relays are used; electronic relays can be used at higher frequencies. The contact times for the mechanical relays should of course be such that sufficient time is available for charging and discharging the capacitors. With regard to the storage capacitor, the following should be noted: The time constant of this capacitor, i. H.
the product of the capacitance and the total parallel resistance, which the latter was formed by the conduction resistance of the capacitor and the resistance of the circuit connected in parallel with the capacitor, usually has a high value; if a suitable capacitor is provided, especially if the dielectric is chosen in a suitable manner (epoxy resins, polystyrene, poly ester, polyethylene), this time constant can easily be a few hours. As things stand, this time constant forms the information memory of the circuit; if the circuit is used for regulation with an integrating effect, it is preferred to provide a period of a few hours as the information memory.
With regard to the determination of the size of Cv, the following considerations also apply: The size of the charge delivered each time from CA or C $ to Cv should generally be small in comparison with the maximum charge that can be absorbed by the storage capacitor. This maximum amount of charge is limited by the maximum voltage that can be applied to the capacitor, and this voltage is in turn generally based on the device connected to the storage capacitors, in particular on the drive problems that occur during the operation of this system when the system is operated exploited to the limit of its drive range.
However, the capacitance of Cv cannot be increased to an arbitrarily large value, because otherwise the sensitivity of the circuit would be too low.
In practice, it follows from the above explanations that a high value for Cv is actually possible, but not a value which is very large compared to CA or C $. Correspondingly, the voltage VA used will not be too great in comparison to e.
It is possible to make the size of CA, C $ and / or <I> VA, </I> VB dependent on variables that are not directly related to the frequencies of the periodic processes, e.g. B. from the tem perature and / or the pressure. As he explains further below, you can achieve temperature and / or pressure compensation in this way.
Fig. 2 schematically illustrates another example of the above-mentioned compensation circuit. This circuit is similar to that of FIG. 1, with a voltage source connected between points 3 and 4 in series in the circuit which is formed by the storage capacitor Cv and the parallel circuit with CA, RA, C $ and RB, which produces a voltage supplies, which is always equal to or approximately equal to the voltage e of the storage capacitor, but acts in the mentioned circle in the opposite direction.
For this purpose, the voltage of the storage capacitor is fed to the input of an amplifier T, with a gain factor of -f-1; the terminals between which the output voltage e occurs from this amplifier are denoted by 3 and 4. For the purposes of practice, it is sufficient if the gain factor is approximately equal to -j-1, as is e.g. B. is the case with amplifiers of the cathode sequence circuit design.
This ensures that the auxiliary capacitors CA and C $ are completely discharged, since the voids of both capacitors are brought to the same or essentially the same potential during the discharge process.
The voltage e between points 3 and 4 can advantageously be used for recording, measuring or, if necessary, for direct or indirect regulation of the frequencies of the periodic processes.
In the circuit shown in FIG. 3, the same result is achieved with the aid of an amplifier T2 which has a very high negative current gain. An amplifier of this type can, for. B. be designed as a three-stage DC amplifier with a gain of approximately 1000.
The output voltage of this amplifier appearing between points 5 and 6 is in series with the storage capacitor Cv and the parallel circuit RA, CA, RB and C $. The amplifier T2 ensures that the voltage between 5 and 6 is essentially equal to the voltage e on the storage capacitor, but this voltage is opposite; All of these voltages are practically applied to the input terminals 7 and 8 of the amplifier, so that compensation is automatically carried out in such a way that practically no potential difference occurs at terminals 7 and 8. The voltage between points 5 and 6 can be measured, registered or regulated.
Fig. 4 shows a 'circuit for the control of two non-periodic processes, namely in the case before for the control of the ratio of the liquid keitsströme Q conveyed through two lines Z and Z2. and Q2. In each line there is a measuring device M, _ or M2, and the output signals of these measuring devices each represent a periodic process, the frequency of which is a measure of the flow rate of the liquid in question.
Volumetric flow meters are preferably used, as these enable very precise measurements.
The output signal of the measuring device Ml consists of electrical impulses with a frequency fA, which corresponds to the flow velocity in the line L. is proportional. However, it does not matter that this frequency is equal to the number of revolutions of the flow meter used. The same applies to the measuring device M2, which supplies pulses with a frequency f $.
The pulse frequencies fA and f $ operate the relays RA and RB, which are in a circuit which is essentially similar to that of FIG. However, the circuit diagram in FIG. 4 shows two improvements over the circuit according to FIG.
The voltage applied to the capacitor CA in the charging position is not taken directly from the voltage source E and the voltage divider S, but indirectly via two series-connected resistors Rt, and R, .. The voltage across the resistor Rl is the Auxiliary condenser CA supplied.
Similarly, in the other half of the circuit, the resistors Rta and R2 are connected in series. The resistors Rt and Rt2 are resistance thermometers which are at the temperature t1 and t2 of the liquids in the two lines. The resistors R ,. and R2 are large compared to the resistances of the thermometers. In this way one can correct the volume measurements of the two flow meters with regard to temperature differences.
The desired correction can of course also be achieved by varying the size of the capacitances of the capacitors CA and C $ according to the measured temperatures; It is also possible to adjust the setting of the potentiometer S, in particular e.g. to make the setting of the middle contact dependent on the temperatures t1 and t2.
Since the amplifier T2 is a DC amplifier, one can also provide a drift correcting device formed in a known manner between the terminals 7, 8 and ground, which ensures that the correct setting of the amplifier is maintained.
The drift correction device generates, in a known manner, a drift compensation voltage which appears at the input of amplifier T2 between terminal 8 and earth. This drift compensation voltage ensures that at very low frequencies of less than 1/60 Hz an input signal of 0 volts corresponds to an output signal of 0 volts.
The voltage between terminals 5 and 6, which was the same as the voltage e of the storage capacitor Cv, but which is opposite, is used to regulate Q2 and for this purpose is fed to a regulator P which controls a regulating valve K in line L2. The controller P can be designed so that it acts proportionally and integrating at the same time. The valve K can, for. B. be pneumatically operated. Since the controller P and the mode of operation of the valve Kin are known to the control technology, a more detailed description is not necessary.
From the above it is evident that the flow in the line L2 can be regulated so that the total amount Q2 of the liquid supplied from a certain moment on is in a certain proportion to the total amount Q1 of the other liquid at the same moment on and during the same period of time. The advantage of this control method is that this ratio can be set directly and also continuously by adjusting the voltage divider S in an extremely simple manner.
In practice, the accuracy of the entire method depends on the working accuracy of the measuring devices Ml and M2, i. H. under favorable conditions, an accuracy level of 0.15% can be achieved. Since the device can be designed for fully electric operation, there is no need to provide mechanical connections from the flow meters to the switching devices and the control device, which eliminates further difficulties. The device works immediately in the correct manner and no operational attempts need to be made.
This means that you can switch from liquids of one type to liquids of another type or from a ratio of QllQ2 <I> to </I> without any loss of time and production.
<I> Example I </I> A circuit constructed essentially as shown in FIG. 4 was used to dispense asphaltic bitumen mixed with kerosene.
The kerosene was fed in via line L1 at a temperature of around 15 C, while the asphaltic bitumen (penetration number 80; temperature approximately 150 C) was fed in via line L2. These liquid streams were mixed in the line, and the mixture in the form of a liquid bitumen could immediately be dispensed in an amount of about 33 tons per hour. The mixture contained 21 vol. O kerosene and 79 vol. O asphaltic bitumen.
The circuit actually used differed from that shown in FIG. 4 in that the flow meter Ml was arranged beyond the junction of the two lines, so that this flow meter measured the total amount of the mixture. A temperature correction was not made.
The measuring devices Ml and M2 were volumetric flow meters of the Brodie type. The flow meter Ml worked at a speed of about 1 revolution per minute and sent a signal of 9 Hz to the relay RA. In practice, the signal frequency of these measuring devices is generally between 1 and 10 Hz. The two relays RA and RB were designed as mechanical relays of the polarized type. The voltage source E delivered a voltage of 150 volts; the voltage divider S was set so that VA was 75 and VB was about 60 volts.
In the drawings, the voltage source E is shown as an accumulator, but in practice a rectified and possibly stabilized alternating voltage can be used.
The capacitors CA and C $ were polystyrene capacitors of 0.03 microfarads. A limiting resistor of 150,000 ohms (not shown) was connected in series with each of these capacitors.
The capacitor Cv was a 3.3 microfarad polystyrene capacitor. The time constant of this capacitor was about 20,000 seconds; the RC time of this capacitor together with the circuit connected in parallel with it was approximately 12,000 seconds. In the circuit, another scarf bridging the capacitor Cv was provided, which made it possible to temporarily short-circuit this capacitor. A total of 800 tons of the product were delivered in the manner described above, the accuracy of the composition of the mixture being about 0.1 δ.
The device described is particularly suitable for the immediate dispensing of the product, i. H. it is not necessary to provide storage containers for the finished product. If the mixing ratio is to be changed or a completely different product is to be used, this can be done almost immediately and with practically no loss of time or production.
In the example above, the asphalt bitumen was mixed with kerosene; however, the method can also be used with all types of other mixtures, e.g. B. in the production of lubricating oils, gasoline or gas oil from two or more components.
In the chemical industry it is possible, for. B. to measure and / or regulate the ratio of different currents that are fed to a reaction vessel.
Furthermore, the flow of a certain medium can be divided into two or more partial flows in which the throughput speeds are in a fixed ratio to one another. This task can e.g. B. be placed when several units, z. B. reactors, mixers, separators, distillation columns or extraction columns are connected in parallel and are to be fed from a single source.
<I> Example </I> 1I The invention also enables the total amount of a material, e.g. B. a liquid or a gas, which is conveyed through a line within a certain period of time. Fig. 5 shows the circuit used in such a measurement and other devices; this arrangement works as an integrating flow meter.
A liquid with a density d flows through a line L1; the total amount of liquid conveyed through the line during a certain time should be measured and, if necessary, registered. If the volume of liquid flowing through the line in the unit of time is denoted by F, the amount by weight X which is conveyed per unit of time is equal to d.F. The total amount is obtained by integrating X as a function of time.
A measuring device Ml is switched into the line L1, the output signal of which consists of electrical pulses, the frequency fA of which is proportional to the flow velocity of the liquid and thus also to the variable F.
The density of the liquid is measured continuously with the aid of a measuring device M3; This device generates a varying DC voltage EA as an output signal, which is proportional to the density d.
The circuit according to FIG. 5 is otherwise essentially similar to that according to FIG. 4. It should be noted, however, that in FIG. 5 the symbol EB denotes a constant direct voltage, and that at H a generator is provided which produces electrical pulses with a frequency fB supplies the value of which depends on the voltage between terminals 5 and 6, i.e. H. the voltage e of the storage capacitor, directs.
If e is constant, the following relationship applies: EA 'CA'fA = EB' CB'fB If the capacities CA and CB are equal, EA-fA <I> = </I> EB-fB. In view of what has been said above, this relationship can also be described as follows: d.F. <I> = </I> C, -fB. Herein, Cl is a constant.
The frequency fB is thus a measure of the amount of flow passing through the line in the unit of time. A counter TM, which is actuated by pulses with the frequency fB, then displays the current through the line 4 integrated over time.
The voltage e acts as a control voltage on the frequency fB of the generator H; this control ensures that the voltage e remains at least approximately constant; as a result, the above-mentioned relationship is actually satisfied.
The generator H can be, for. B. be a multivibrator.
If the number of pulses with the frequency fA is also measured with the help of a counter, you also get a display of the entire fluid volume dispensed within a certain period of time.
By a (not shown) slight change from the arrangement of FIG. 5, this can be transformed into a control device in which the device Ml, which instead of a frequency supplies a voltage that is a measure of the instantaneous value of the current through the line 4 . With the help of this voltage representing a control voltage you can z. B. control a process in which the liquid flowing through the line plays a role; this control is based on the instantaneous value of the variable <I> X = </I> d.F.
For this purpose, the following changes are made conditions: The relay RB is now operated by pulses at a constant frequency, this frequency z. B. derived from the network frequency or equal to it; the generator H is also replaced by an amplifier, preferably in combination with an integration circuit. The output signal of this amplifier of the combination mentioned takes the place of the constant voltage E $. This signal also forms the desired control variable. The design of the circuit ensures that the voltage e maintains a constant value which is equal to zero when the amplifier is used in combination with an integration circuit.
In this case the following relationship applies: EA-fA <I> = </I> EB-fB. From this it follows that E $ <I> = </I> C2-F.d.
Herein C2 is a constant. Thus, in this case, E $ equals the value d.F., i.e. H. the instantaneous value of the mass flow, proportional.
