Gemäss einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform des erfindungsgemässen Verfahrens stellt man vorerst durch Vermischen der festen Bestandteile ein trok- kenes Gemisch her, welches 50-90 Gew.% des Ge- samtgewichtes an festem Wirkstoff, 3-10% Netz- mittel und 3-150/9 eines Schutzkolloids enthält;
Alkalisalze von aro matischen oder ahphatisch-aromatischen Sulfon- säuren oder von langkettigen Alkoxyessigsäuren;
Process for the preparation of a wettable wettable powder which can be used for weed control and wettable powder obtained by this process The herbicidal active substances of the triazine series of the formula which can be prepared by reacting cyanuric chloride with primary alkylamines
EMI0001.0013
wherein R1 and R2 are lower alkyl radicals with 1 to 4 <RTI
ID = "0001.0017"> carbon atoms, in particular ethyl or isopropyl radicals., Represent strongly hydrophobic solid substances and are obtained during the manufacturing process as moist press cakes, which are then dried and ground into a powdery form of the finest, suitable for application as herbicides Particle size must be transferred. The fineness of the powder is ensured by using suitable mills, such as a pin mill.
In the industrial production of these active ingredients, after drying and grinding the press cake, products are obtained whose grain size is such that 10-30% by weight of the particles are coarser than 40, u. In order to achieve the maximum herbicidal effect of these particles, their total surface must be enlarged, which is done by grinding, preferably in a pin mill, to a grain size at which a maximum of 10 wt. / O of the individual active ingredient particles present, preferably 1 -5019,
are coarser than the mesh size of a 40, u-sieve.
A particularly suitable application form of herbicidal active ingredients is the aqueous spray liquors which are prepared by diluting commercially available spray powders with water and which are dispersions in water. The above-mentioned small particle size of the active substances not only increases the biological effectiveness but also the ability of the particles to float in the aqueous suspensions (spray liquors).
Wettable powders are usually produced by adding solid wetting agents and protective colloids (dispersants) to the solid active ingredients. By mixing the constituents, solid concentrates, so-called wettable powders (suspension powders) are produced which, when placed in water, give spray liquors which contain the concentration of active ingredient suitable for the application.
The above-mentioned solid concentrates (suspension powder) consist of active ingredient, wetting agent, protective colloid and, if necessary, inert additives and traces of water, which result from the moisture content of the mixture components (up to 5011 / o).
While it is easily possible with insecticidal active ingredients of the DDT type to use this known method to produce ready-to-use wettable powders, these conventional measures fail completely in the production of wettable powders from the herbicidal 2-chloro-4,6-bis-amino-s -triazines of the formula I.
These last active ingredients are so strongly hydrophobic and their wettability is so low that the production of wettable suspension powders would require such large amounts of wetting agent that firstly the percentage of active substance is too low at the expense of the necessary amount of wetting agent and secondly the foaming caused by the high wetting agent content of the produced aqueous spray mixtures would be so strong and annoying that the practical use of such spray mixtures would no longer be an option.
It has therefore not previously been possible to prepare usable wettable powders from the herbicidal active substances of the formula I. Wetting agent contents of more than 10% by weight are not acceptable in spray powder technology for economic reasons (reduction of the active ingredient content) and practical reasons (foaming of the spray liquor).
Because of the poor wettability of the active ingredients of formula 1, wetting agent amounts of more than 20 wt: O / o would be necessary, which would result in wettable powders with a relatively low percentage of active ingredient that would not be useful for practical purposes due to the strong foaming effect.
It has now been found, surprisingly, that these disadvantages can be avoided and the wettability of the herbicidal active ingredients of the formula 1 can be increased significantly if the mixture of solid active ingredient, solid wetting agent, protective colloid and optionally inert additive is used in the preparation of the wettable wettable powder the final homogenization and grinding of the mixture components 3-15 wt: O / o, preferably 3-7 wt:
%, Water, based on the total weight of the mixture, incorporated. This measure makes it possible to keep the wetting agent content low, i.e. between 3 and 10% by weight, due to the higher wettability of the active ingredient powder achieved by the addition of water, which avoids the annoying foaming, and at the same time the percentage of the mixture To increase the active ingredient at the expense of the reduced amount of wetting agent to 50 to 90% by weight, ie to arrive at an economically and practically usable wettable powder.
The present invention therefore relates to a process for the production of a wettable wettable powder which can be used for weed control and which also contains 50-90% by weight of a solid 2-chloro-4,6-bis-alkylamino-s-triazine of very fine particle size as the active ingredient 3-10% by weight of a solid wetting agent and solid protective colloid in amounts of preferably 3-15% by weight,
by mixing the components mentioned and homogenizing the material to be mixed in a mill. This method is characterized in that 3-15% by weight, preferably 3-7% by weight of water, based on the total weight of the mixture, is incorporated into the mixture before homogenization, and the moistened material is then homogenized.
The homogenization is preferably carried out in a pin mill, where, depending on the particle size of the active ingredient in the starting mixture, further comminution of the active ingredient particles occurs due to the grinding effect.
If the active ingredient powder with a particle size of 10-30% by weight a coarser 40 / c that is obtained during manufacture is further ground before the spray powder is prepared (to a maximum of 10% by weight coarser 40 1c),
There is no significant further comminution of the particles during treatment in the pencil mill: Usually, however, the coarser active ingredient powder that occurs during manufacture is used directly for the manufacture of the wettable powder, so that during the homogenization operation in the pencil mill there is an additional grinding effect reduction of the active ingredient particles to the ideal grain size.
Since the process according to the invention involves the production of a wettable powder with a dry consistency, no more than 15% water should be added; such a powder still has a dry feel. Water additions between 3 and 711 / o are sufficient for the wetting effect to be achieved and are therefore preferred.
There is of course the possibility of using at least one of the solid mixture components, e.g. B. the wetting agent and, [or the protective colloid, partially or completely dissolved in the water to be added, to be added to the solid components of the mixture.
This addition of water allows a significant savings in wetting agents, and moreover, the suspension powders obtainable according to the invention tend to foam less in the preparation of spray liquors, although suspensions with excellent suspension stability of the solid constituents resultie.
The addition of water according to the invention is an obligatory measure before the homogenization or grinding of the components of the mixture. The resulting increase in the wettability of the active ingredient particles and thus made it possible to reduce the amount of wetting agent, for example, cannot be achieved if, instead of adding water, moist active ingredient is used which still contains a few percent water, e.g. B. an active ingredient that was obtained by crushing a not completely anhydrous dried presscake of the active ingredient.
The reason for this seemingly surprising situation is as follows: The moisture (up to 5% water) possibly present in the mix, and in particular in the active substance particles, is located inside the particles after incomplete drying, while their surface is dry. The residual moisture trapped in the core of the particles can therefore not have any influence on the wettability of the particle surface.
The addition of water according to the invention, on the other hand, has the effect that a fine water layer forms on the surface of the active substance particles, in which the wetting agent particles dissolve and thus the active substance particles can envelop them in close contact. The wetting agent molecules brought into intimate contact with the entire surface of the active substance particles in this way ensure the greatly improved wettability of the active substance particles even after the added water has dried out, as they remain in close contact with the surface of the active substance particles and envelop them.
A series of tests with simazine powder clearly shows the extraordinarily strong reduction in the wetting time when water is added to the simazine powder. The resulting wetting times of less than 20 seconds are sufficient for a wettable powder.
(With DDT spray powder, wetting times of the order of 20 seconds are already achieved with 3% wetting agent without the addition of water, so that the problem of wettability does not arise there because of the much lower hydrophobicity of this insecticide.) With the method according to the invention it is now possible to
to increase the active ingredient content of the suspension powder as a result of the reduction of the required amount of wetting agent to well over 50%, namely to 80 to 90% (remainder of wetting agent, protective colloid and any additives).
With the active ingredient 2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-s-triazine, he can produce wettable powders with an active ingredient content of more than 80% according to the invention. A similar increase in the active ingredient content is possible according to the process according to the invention if further 2-chloro-4,6-alkylamino-s-triazines are used as active substances.
According to a preferred embodiment of the process according to the invention, a dry mixture is first produced by mixing the solid constituents, which contains 50-90% by weight of the total weight of solid active ingredient, 3-10% wetting agent and 3-150 / 9 contains a protective colloid;
the rest is made up of solid, inert additives and traces (up to 50/0) of water, which come from the moisture content of the mixture components. The homogeneous mixture is sprayed with 3-15% water (calculated on the weight of the mixture) and mixed until the water is evenly distributed. Then the mixture is z.
B. homogenized in a pin mill or Kolloplex mill, the active ingredient particles are further crushed if they were not already small enough.
Particularly suitable wetting agents are: cation-active, such as quaternary ammonium compounds; anion-active, such as alkali salts of sulfuric acid monoesters of long-chain aliphatic hydroxyl compounds (fatty alcohol sulfates),
Alkali salts of aromatic or aliphatic-aromatic sulfonic acids or of long-chain alkoxyacetic acids;
as well as non-ionic, such as polyethylene glycol ethers of fatty alcohols or alkylphenols, fatty acid condensation products and higher fatty acid esters of sorbitol (cyclic anhydrides of sorbitol).
The preferred protective colloids, which also act as dispersants and keep the particles in the spray liquor in suspension, are sodium lignosulfonic acid (sulfite waste liquor powder) and sodium dibutylnaphthalene sulfonic acid.
The following solid inert additives can be used: diatomaceous earth, chalk, kaolin, bentonite, calcium carbonate, tricalcium phosphate, etc.
The method according to the invention will be explained in more detail using the following examples. Parts therein mean parts by weight. Example 1 60 parts of 2-chloro-4,6-bis-ethylamino-s-triazine (100%), 7 parts of sulphite waste liquor powder as protective colloid, 6 parts of a sulfuric acid ester of an alkyl polyglycol ether (Eriopon G.
O.) as a wetting agent and 21 parts of champagne chalk mixed for about 1 hour. Using a suitable sprayer, the mixture is then sprayed with 6 parts by weight of water while stirring and mixed until the product is homogeneous.
The mixture is then treated for a further 2 hours in a pin mill for complete homogenization and grinding. A wettable wettable powder containing 60% active ingredient is obtained which, when stirred in water, gives a weed control suspension which foams only slightly.
Example 2 810 parts by weight of 2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-s-triazine (98%), 60 parts of sulphite waste liquor powder (Attisol), 60 parts of sodium alkylnaphthalene sulphonic acid ( Tinovetin B) as a wetting agent and 20 parts of Champagne chalk are mixed in a Venuleth mixer.
Then 75 parts of water are injected through a sprinkler tube with stirring and mixed until the water is homogeneously distributed. This is followed by grinding in the Kolloglex mill, with around 20-25 parts by weight of water evaporating, and mixing is then carried out until it is homogenized. A wettable powder containing 81% active ingredient is obtained, which is diluted with water to the desired concentration, a suitable weed control,
results in non-foaming suspension of good resistance to suspension. Example 3 In a Venuleth mixer, 70 parts of 2-chloro-4,6-bis-ethylamino-s-triazine (100%), 6 parts of a fatty alcohol sulfonate as a wetting agent, 5 parts of sodium dibutylnaphthalene sulfonic acid are added as Protection colloid and 12 parts kaolin intimately mixed for one hour. Then, while stirring, 7 parts of water are injected through a sprinkling tube and mixed until the water is homogeneously distributed.
The material is then passed through a Kolloplex mill and then further mixed until it is homogenized, after which a wettable powder containing 70% active ingredient is obtained.
Example 4 83 parts of 2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-s-triazine (98% strength), 5 parts of sulphite waste liquor powder as protective colloid and 2 parts of kaolin are mixed well together in a suitable mixer . A solution of 5 parts of wetting agent, consisting of a polyethylene glycol alkylphenol ether (Nonic 300), is then added with stirring.
incorporated in 5 parts of water into the mixture prepared above and mixed until homogeneous. The material is then placed in a pin mill and homogenized for a further 1 hour, resulting in a wettable powder which contains 83% by weight of active ingredient.
