Use of p-coumarinyl- (3) -phenylcarbamic acid derivatives as lightening agents
The present invention relates to the use of derivatives of p-coumarinylL (3) phenylcarbamic acid, those of the formula
EMI1.1
correspond, in which X for OR or
EMI1.2
stands, where R is an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, e.g. B. denotes a methyl, ethyl, benzyl or phenyl radical, which can also be substituted, for example by halogen, alkoxy groups or dialkylamino groups, while R 1 and R 2 independently of one another are hydrogen or one of the radicals listed for R , as a lightening agent for the treatment of textile fibers made of cellulose acetate, polyacrylonitrile and polyamide.
If the radicals R1 and R2 are not hydrogen, they can be substituted, for example, by halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy or sulfonic acid groups. The derivatives of p coumarinyl- (3) -phenylcarbamic acid can also be substituted in the benzene ring A, for example by halogen, alkyl, cyano, alkylsulfone, sulfonamide, carboxy or sulfonic acid groups.
As optical brightening agents that can be used according to the present invention, the following compounds are listed, for example:

EMI2.1
EMI3.1
The derivatives of p-cu- marinyl- (3) -phenylcarbamic acid are accessible in various ways, e.g. B. by reacting 3- (p-aminophenyl) -coumarin or its derivatives with the chloroformic acid esters of the alcohols or phenols corresponding to the substituents R, by reacting 3- (p-aminophenyl) -coumarin or from the same , with the pyrocarbonic acid esters of the alcohols on which the substituents R are based or through the action of p-coumarinyl (3) phenyl isocyanate or
Derivatives of the same on the underlying alcohols or substituents R
Phenols or amines of the general formula
EMI3.2
The 3 (p-amino-phenyl) -coumarins required here as starting material can be prepared by reducing the corresponding 3- (p-nitro-phenyl) -coumarins, which in turn are produced by condensation of pN: itrophenyl-acetonitrile with o-oxy-benzaldehyde or.
Deriving from the same and subsequent cyclization in glacial acetic acid or by Ku. coupling of coumarin or derivatives thereof with diazotized p-nitraniline are available.
The optical brightening agents which are used according to the present invention can be used in the customary manner, for example in the form of solutions in water or organic solvents or in the form of aqueous dispersions; the thinning agents can also be used together with detergents.
It is already known descendants of 3- (p-amino-phenyl) -cumari. ns, which are acylated in the amino group by alkoxy-substituted aromatic carboxylic acids, are to be used as brightening agents (US Pat. No. 2,702,296 and French Pat. No. 1,168,226, page 2, formula k). Compared with such lightening agents, the lightening agents used according to the present invention exert a stronger lightening effect on fibers made of polyacrylonitrile, cellulose acetate and polyamide.
The parts given in the following examples are parts by weight.
example 1
A solution of 0.1 part of the lightening agent of the formula
EMI3.3
in 1 part, dioxane is poured into a cold solution of 1 part of a mixture consisting of a fatty alcohol sulfonate and a fatty alcohol polyglycol ether in 1000 parts of water. After the dispersion obtained in this way has been adjusted to pH 3.5 with acetic acid, yarn made of polyacrylnitmifibres is introduced into the dispersion in a liquor ratio of 1:40; then the bath is heated to the boiling temperature within 20 minutes and held at this temperature for 30 minutes.
The yarn is then rinsed and dried; it is then brightened very well.
The brightening agent used was prepared as follows: 23.7 parts of 3- (p-AmMio-phenyl) -coumarin, melting point 190-192, were dissolved in 120 parts of dry pyridine at room temperature, and 35 parts of phenyl chloroformate were added dropwise to the solution at 10 o'clock. The mixture was stirred for 2 hours at room temperature, then 150-200 parts of water were added, and the product which had crystallized out was filtered off with suction, washed with water and dried at 100%. The pale yellowish phenyl ester of p-coumarinyl- (3) -phenylcarbamic acid thus obtained has a melting point of 152-154.

1 part of dioxane is converted into a cold solution of 1 part of a fatty alcohol sulfonate and egg. Poured an existing fatty alcohol polyglycol ether mixture into 1000 parts of water. Fibers or fabrics made of cellulose acetate in a liquor ratio of 1:30 are introduced cold into the aqueous dispersion of the whitening agent obtained in this way, the bath is heated to GO within 10 minutes and then held at this temperature for a further 20 minutes. After rinsing and drying: the textile material turns out to be extremely bright. The brightening is very lightfast.
The reverberant used was prepared as follows: 23.7 parts of 3- (p-aminophenyl) coumarin were dissolved in 100 parts of hot dioxane and 25 parts of pyrocarbons acid diethyiester were added dropwise at 80. The reaction mixture was then stirred at 80-90 for a further 30 minutes. When the solution cooled, the ethyl ester of p-coumarinyl- (3) -phenylcarbamic acid crystallized out in the form of coarse, pale yellowish crystals, which were filtered off with suction, washed with alcohol and dried at 100%. The ethyl ester has a melting point of 181-1820.

1 part of dioxane is poured into a cold solution of 1 part of a mixture consisting of a fatty alcohol sulfonate and a fatty alcohol polyglycolate in 1000 parts of water. Fibers or fabrics made of polyamides in a liquor ratio of 1:40 are introduced cold into the aqueous dispersion of the whitening agent obtained in this way, the bath is then brought to a boil within 15 minutes and kept at this temperature for 30 minutes. After rinsing and drying, the polyamide fiber material is extremely bright; the brightening is very lightfast.
The AufbeNmittel used was prepared as follows: 75 parts of p-coumarinyl (3) phenyl isocyanate (melting point with decomposition at 210 to 230) were refluxed with 150 parts of glycol monomethyl ether for 2 hours.
Then the solution, which had become clear in the course of the vigorous exothermic reaction, was cooled. The product which crystallized out was triturated with cold methanol, sharply suctioned off and recrystallized from 600 parts of methanol. The methoxyethyl ester of p Coumariny'l- (3) -phenylcarbamic acid was obtained in the form of shiny prisms which melt at 130.
Another very good lightening effect is achieved if you use its ¯-chloroethyl ester instead of the ¯-methoxyÏthyl ester of p-coumarinyl- (3) -phenylcarbamic acid. This ¯-chloroethyl ester can be obtained by using the same amount of ethylene chlorohydrin instead of 150 parts of glycol monomethyl ether in the procedure described in the previous paragraph.

are made into a paste with 0.1 part glacial acetic acid and poured over 1000 parts of hot water; the solution obtained in this way is mixed with 0.75 parts of 30 / odger acetic acid and cooled. Then yarn made of polyacrylonitrile fibers is introduced into the solution in a liquor ratio of 1:40, the bath is heated to boiling temperature within 20 minutes and held at this temperature for 30 minutes. After rinsing and drying, the yarn turns out to be very bright; the brightening is very lightfast.
The whitening agent used was prepared as follows: 26.3 parts of p-coumarinyl (3) phenyl isocyanate and 50 parts of ¯-dimethylamino-ethanol were reflushed for two hours; then the reaction mixture was diluted with 250 parts of water, and the product which had crystallized out was filtered off with suction, washed with water and dried. The ¯-dimethylamino-ethyl ester of p-coumarinyl- (3) -phenylcarbamic acid was thus obtained in the form of a light yellow powder with a melting point of 114 (with decomposition).
