Process for covering a part, device for implementing the method and part covered by this process The present patent relates to a process for covering a part, by spraying on this part with a spray of particles electrostatically charged, characterized by the fact that the part to is placed in a closed chamber, eliminates the dust contained in this chamber and empties it of at least part of the chamber. the air it contains before proceeding to said projection of particles.
The patent also relates to a device for implementing this process comprising at least one sprayer capable of emitting at least one effluvium of potential at least greater than to that of said part. This device is characterized by the fact that it comprises at least one plate arranged rotatably in said enclosure intended to receive the part to to be treated and having at least one carried electrode < B> at a potential at most equal to that of said part, means moving said sprayer in manner to sweep by its throw a field covering at least half of the diameter of the plate,
at a sufficient distance from the room so that said particles are deposited on at least part of the surface by electrostatic attraction ' means making it possible to purify the enclosure of the dust which it contains and finally means for emptying this enclosure of at least part of its air.
Finally, the patent relates to to a part obtained by the previously stated process.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, an embodiment of the device for carrying out the process, the subject of the patent.
Fig. 1 is a general view in elevation ; FIG. 2 a vertical section ; FIG. 3 is a section on III-111 of fig. 1; fig. 4 and 5 are detail views, respectively in section and in plan, of one of the elements of this device.
The device shown comprises a tubular frame 1 supporting a spray chamber 2, a cabinet 3 containing means not shown for supplying fluid to a cylinder 4 and finally a 5 control box from the device. In chamber 2 is mounted a plate 6 on which are placed the parts, metallic or not, the surface of which is to be treated and which is driven in rotation by a motor not shown contained in a housing 7 also containing a device for reducing the movement of this motor.
8 represents an electrostatic gun supplied with material to spray from from a pressure tank 9 and to which the potential necessary for the production of the effluvium polarizing the pulverized material is supplied by a high voltage pulse generator 10. This generator, very schematically represented in the drawing, contains a set of capacitors arranged in cascade and is capable of producing voltage shocks with a value of up to 90,000 electrovolts but whose energy is low enough not to endanger users of the device.
These voltage shocks, the duration of which is relatively short, of the order of 30 to 50-- microseconds for example, follow each other at at a relatively high rate. They are directed by the cable 11 onto an electrode of the gun, not shown in the drawing, - enveloping the outlet nozzle of the vaporized material, so as to polarize the projected particles by bringing them to the potential of the impulse voltage. We know that such particles quite naturally tend to to be attracted by any mass of lower potential, in particular by any mass connected to the earth for example. This particularity makes it possible to cover a surface in a very homogeneous manner without appreciable loss of the projected material.
Indeed, the action of the udder udder's effluvium gun is such that the vaporized jet is very homogeneous and does not exhibit a vortex effect at its periphery tending to </ B > deflect the particles of material found there outside the assigned goal. Furthermore, such a jet is all to made uniform over its entire width, so that the quantity of material thrown is substantially identical at the center of the jet and at the edge thereof.
The chamber 2 is formed by two superposed parts, an upper part 12, of trapezoidal shape, in which the gun protrudes 8, and a lower part 13, in funnel-shaped, in which the plate 6. is pivoted. Access to the chamber is possible by opening a watertight gate 14 whose upper face, not shown in the drawing, is transparent.
On the wall 12a of this chamber is fixed an air pump 15 intended to lower the pressure in the chamber and, depending on the case , to completely empty it of its air.
The device is also provided with a fan such as 16 driving the sucked air back through a tre 17, wire in the lower part 13 from the chamber through a pipe 18. 19 is a valve for closing this conduit. The 17 filter consists of a sufficiently large silica gel charge to retain the dust entrained by the air which passes through it and to dehydrate it as much as possible.
In a variant, this filter could of course be preceded by a dust filter so as to not unnecessarily soil the silica gel which, as we know, can be easily regenerated.
The opening of passage of the gun 8 through the walls of the enclosure 1 is closed by a frustoconical hood 20 fixed in a sealed manner by its edges around the pistol and along the edges of this opening, this hood is sufficiently elastic to allow the pistol to move under the action of the piston of cylinder 4 from its position in the drawing to the position indicated by the arrow f. These two positions correspond to the rest position of the gun and to its end position from which the pistol is automatically returned to its first position by means not shown arranged in the box 3. Other means, also not shown ,
control the supply of the gun with material to to project and with polarizing discharges as soon as the. pis tolet leaves its rest position ; these means interrupt these supplies when the-- gun has reached its second limit position; During this movement, the gun emits a jet of polarized material above the plate 6 which falls on this plate, as will be described later, and comes to rest homogeneously on the plates. parts that y are arranged. The first particles sprayed by the gun are directed onto an electrode 21, consisting of a metallic sphere, for example, fixed to the wall 12a of the chamber. This electrode is put to the earth by a connection not shown.
The first jet emitted by the gun generally comprises a relatively high quantity of impurities, which are either impurities contained in the material itself, in particular lumps, or dust or particles in the supply duct. material at the gun or in this gun. These first particles will therefore attach to the electrode 21.
The funnel-shaped part 13 of the chamber 1 has two ribs 22a and 22b to which a sleeve 23 is attached. sealingly passing through the bottom of this funnel. This sleeve constitutes a guide member for a rotary shaft 24 driven by the motor of the housing 7. A the upper part of this shaft is fixed a yoke 25 having two studs 26a and 26b diametrically opposed. 27 is a duct insulator in which is disposed a conductor 28 connecting a set of conductive parts arranged on the plate, which will be described in detail below, to an earth not shown.
The plate 6 is formed by a disc 29 provided on its underside with a ring 30 of dimension corresponding to to </ B > the external dimension of the yoke 25 of the shaft and in the surface of which two diametrically opposed slots 31 ; are provided ; these slots are intended to receive the nipples 26a and 26b of the yoke 25, allowing the plates to be coupled 6 ù the tree 24.
From either side of the ring 30 are arranged tubular elements 32 each containing a carbon brush 33 </ B> in contact by its lower face with a collector ring 34 integral with the sleeve 23. This ring is connected to the earth by the conductor 28. </ B> The tubes 32 are fixed to the disc 29 by means of a conductive plate 35 in electrical contact with the brushes 33 and in the middle part of which is fixed an electrode 36 crossing the plate 29 in its central part.
On the upper face of the disc 29 are also arranged supports 36a and 36b for metal frames such as 37 on which are fixed parts to process. These frames are provided with conducting tabs 38 inserted between contacts 39 electrically connected to the carbons 33 by a circuit not shown. The contacts 39 are held tight against one another by elastic means, not shown, disposed inside the inside of the tubes 40.
The device described is implemented as follows : The parts to are fixed, for example with paint, varnish, lacquer or emulsion, on the frames 37 and place these frames on the plate 6. We then close the gate 14 of the chamber 1 from which we suck the air through the 15 pump which evacuates it into the atmosphere.
The same quantity of air is reintroduced into the chamber by the 16 fan. Thanks to this air circulation, it is possible to gradually eliminate dust and particles. contained in the chamber, suspended in the air or resting on its internal walls as well as on the various parts to to be treated and on the 6. platform. The air is passed through the silica gel filler 17, as previously described, so that the air initially contained in the chamber is gradually replaced by relatively dehydrated air.
When the air contained in chamber 1 is sufficiently purified, the valve 19 is closed while still running the pump 15 so to reduce the pressure in this room. This pressure reduction is necessary to reduce the quantity of oxygen contained in the chamber 1, on the one hand, so as to avoid too intense oxidation of the sprayed material, and , on the other hand, so as to to reduce the risk of explosion. Indeed, certain covering materials, in particular certain paints or varnishes, have a relatively low flame point, equal to 5 or 10.1C, as the case may be, for normal pressure conditions. .
These paints would therefore be to impossible to throw with an electric air gun under normal temperature conditions. This danger can be avoided precisely by reducing the quantity of oxygen in the medium in which the vaporization takes place.
In an alternative embodiment of the method, it is possible to completely eliminate the air contained in the chamber 1; this however assumes that the walls of this chamber are sufficiently strong to withstand the vacuum.
In another variant embodiment of the method, the device comprises, as described, a member for air conditioning the air admitted into the chamber by the action of the fan 16, this air then being sent into the chamber. chamber at a temperature well below the flame point of the material to to project so as to sufficiently cool the walls of this chamber as well as all that 'it contains so that, once this air is evacuated by the pump 15, the ambient temperature of the chamber always remains below the flame point of the material being sprayed.
A these operations of purifying the interior of the chamber and emptying the air that it contains, partial or total, follows the phase of depositing the material sprayed on the parts to cover.
We start by rotating the plate 6 at relatively low speed and feed the gun 8 with material to project to from the tank 9 as well as in voltage shocks, by the generator 10. The udder is then in the position shown in in fig . 3; the first spray jet falls on electrode 21 which is covered, as described, with relatively impure material. This pistol is then made to move 8 in the direction f by action of the cylinder 4 so that the spray jet moves above the plate, to < / B> short distance from the latter, first in the peripheral zone of this plateau to then approach more and more of the median portion thereof.
Means not shown control at this moment the stopping of the supply of the gun with material to to be projected and in tension and the cylinder 4 returns the gun to its rest position . The pressure inside inside the chamber 1 is then reestablished and the covered parts are replaced by new parts.
In an alternative embodiment of this process, the drying of the film covering the parts can take place directly inside the interior of the chamber 1, by circulating the air in this chamber by action of the pump 15 and the fan 16. In a variant, the circulation air can be brought to </ B > a relatively high temperature by means not shown in the drawing.
In another variant embodiment of the method, the covering of the parts can be carried out in an atmosphere of inert gas, in particular nitrogen, introduced into the chamber, after the vacuum has been created, under an equal pressure at atmospheric pressure. This gas prevents, on the one hand, any oxidation of the vaporized material and, on the other hand, that the walls of < / B> the chamber are not subjected to a vacuum during the part recovery phase. Of course, these parts can also be dried by circulating this gas, in particular by connecting this chamber to a closed circuit for heating and accelerating the gas.
The paints and varnishes commonly used with the device described generally have a flame point of approximately 20,, C. This flame point can however be increased depending on the case in very large proportions by adding to the material to project an appropriate liquid, in particular dymethil-phormabid in the case of acrylic varnishes. This addition can be more or less accentuated depending on the value of the desired flame point : it is thus possible, in the case of the example cited, to bring this point artificially to flame at a value of approximately 7011C instead of the 200C mentioned.
The device shown and described makes it possible to cover the parts with a very regular layer, free from holes, porosities, needle punctures -qu de dust, while making it possible to achieve a fairly significant saving in covering product, economy- which can reach, depending on the case, a value of 60 (approximately 1 / o ..
In addition, the drying time of these parts is very low, on the one hand because the material is vaporized under vacuum and, on the other hand, at </ B> cause of the circulation of gaseous fluid to which the parts are subjected to after being coated. By this device, it is also possible to cover only one of the faces of the parts.
It is also possible to stiff of the device described to project on a surface metallic particles in suspension in a more or less dense liquid mass. This particular use of the device is particularly advantageous in the manufacture of transistors.
