Aber vom Überschreiten einer bestimmten Temperatur ab steigt der Sperrstrom plötzlich rasch an und beschleunigt damit die Temperaturerhöhung durch den Durch gangsstrom. Auch dieser Vorgang kann bei der vor geschlagenen Anordnung leicht nachgebildet werden, indem ein Verstärkerglied benutzt wird, dessen Aus- gangsstrom- exponentiell -von der Eingangsspannung;
Der Verstärker 11 entspricht der linearen Abhängigkeit der Temperatur vom Strom, das heisst sein Ausgangsstrom wächst linear mit dem Eingangsstrom (i11). Zur Berücksichtigung auch des quadratischen Gliedes kann der Verstärker 11 aus zwei parallelen Zweigen bestehen, von denen der eine linear;
A protective circuit representing a thermal image for an electrical device. The invention relates to a protective circuit representing a thermal image, which simulates the thermal relationships of electrical devices with several parts carrying the same current.
In particular, it relates to the thermal simulation of semiconductor rectifiers, which are embedded in metal plates and in which there are other metallic parts for supplying the current and for cooling the entire arrangement.
Such facilities can not be simulated with simple models, as they have become known so far. So far, thermal images have been performed by converting the thermal properties to scale. The current flowing through has been reduced by a certain ratio and accordingly the heat absorption capacity and thermal conductivity of the object to be protected have been brought into such a ratio to the corresponding thermal properties of the model that the times after which a certain temperature is reached are the same in both cases.
So thermal properties of the object have been simulated by thermal properties of the model and only the values have been changed in scale.
It has also become known to use relays whose characteristics, i.e. their functional dependence on the tripping time of the current supplied, correspond approximately to the thermal parameters of the protected object.
Time delay elements have been provided on these relays, which act mechanically, thermally or magnetically and are constructed in such a way that they simulate the thermal process on the protected object. In particular, the charging of capacitors has recently also been used for this purpose, the voltage arising on the capacitor after the passage of the current being analogous to the temperature arising on the protected object.
The time constant of the electrical circuit corresponds to the time constant for the heating of the protégé.
A single delay element has been used in all of these devices and attempts have been made to adapt their characteristic curve to the thermal characteristics of the protégé. This method is sufficient for simple devices in which there is essentially only a single heat-storing member and a single heat source.
However, the more heat sources there are and the more parts with different heat capacities have to be used, the less it is possible to represent the thermal properties with the aid of a single characteristic curve.
Particularly in the case of semiconductor rectifiers, which can suffer dangerous damage even if the permissible temperature is slightly exceeded and which are relatively small, but must be provided with devices with great heat absorption capacity, the use of the known devices is completely inadequate.
In particular, this is not because. the semiconductors themselves increase their temperature according to a different function than the parts surrounding them. Any existing cooling device represents a further heat source. In addition, the influence of the ambient temperature must also be taken into account. Only the true-to-scale model simulation of the thermal properties could represent better protection here, since the individual elements can be reproduced with it.
But with these it is difficult to find the right scale, since relatively high currents occur in the protégé with small dimensions. If the current were to be reduced, the dimensions in the model would then become so small that a constructive implementation is practically no longer possible.
In addition, the ability to adjust to different room temperatures and cooling conditions and the inevitable differences in manufacture cannot be carried out with simple means ..
These disadvantages are now eliminated by the idea of the invention and at the same time a simple and inexpensive changeable device is made possible by the fact that according to the invention the image is composed of capacitors, resistors and amplifiers, with the individual heat capacity being given by corresponding electrical capacities,
the heat transfer resistances through corresponding ohmic resistances and the dependence of the temperature increase on the passing through. Current are simulated by correspondingly translating amplifier circuits.
The proposed arrangement thus reproduces the temperatures of the individual parts of the protégé by means of voltages which arise on the various capacities. The dependence of the temperature increase on the current does not follow the same laws in the individual parts. In the case of parts through which the current is only passed, such as the leads and mounting plates of the semiconductor, the dependency is different from that of the semiconductor itself.
With these, only the ohmic resistance is decisive, which causes the amount of heat generated and thus the temperature rise. In this case, the temperature increases quadratically with the current.
The amount of heat generated is 12R1. The heating of the semiconductor in the direction of passage of the current depends on the current-voltage characteristic of the switch.
As FIG. 1 shows, the voltage drop in the semiconductor elements consists in idealized form of a constant part u6 and a current-proportional part iR2, where R2 is the internal resistance of the semiconductor in the forward direction, u is the voltage drop across the barrier layer, which is un depends on the current level.
The heating or the power loss is then in the semiconductor element i - u, -f- i2R2, so it consists of a linear and a square element .. In addition, the effect of the reverse current occurs in the semiconductor element .. This is indeed very small in normal operation and! practically does not affect the temperature.
But when a certain temperature is exceeded, the reverse current suddenly increases rapidly and thus accelerates the temperature increase caused by the through current. This process, too, can easily be simulated in the proposed arrangement by using an amplifier element whose output current is exponentially dependent on the input voltage;
so the image of the temperature. depends. This current is then also fed to the associated capacitor, so that the charging process is accelerated. The ambient temperature can also be easily simulated in the arrangement by shifting the zero point of the voltages generated in the capacitors with the aid of an electrical simulation of the ambient temperature.
FIGS. 2 and 3 explain an example of the concept of the invention. FIG. 2 shows a semiconductor element with its various parts: The semiconductor itself is denoted by 1. A plate 2 made of metal, which also has the power supply tab 3, is placed on it.
The semiconductor itself lies on a further metal plate 4, which in turn is placed on a cooling plate 5 with the cooling fins 6 and the other electrical connection 7.
The individual parts 1 to 5 are now reproduced in the thermal image shown in FIG. 3. In the current transformer 8, the current flowing through the protégé is taken and translated to a small value. The current is then rectified in the rectifier arrangement 9 and fed to a plurality of amplifiers 11 to 15. These depict the dependence of the temperature increase on the current for the individual parts of the protégé.
The amplifier 11 belongs to the semiconductor element 1, the amplifier 12 to the cover plate 2, the amplifier 13 to the power supply 3, the amplifier 14 to the plate 4 and the amplifier 15 to the cooling plate 5. The parts 2 to 5- have, as already said, a quadratic dependence of the temperature increase on the current. The amplifiers 12 to 15 must therefore convert the current to the square. So if the current i is supplied, a current i2 to i5 arises at the output of this Ver stronger, which increases proportionally with the square of the input current. The temperature conditions in the semiconductor 1 itself are simulated in accordance with the amplifier 11 and the amplifier 10.
The amplifier 11 corresponds to the linear dependence of the temperature on the current, that is, its output current increases linearly with the input current (i11). In order to also take into account the square term, the amplifier 11 can consist of two parallel branches, one of which is linear;
the other is amplified by the square and the currents generated at the output are superimposed. The individual currents created in the amplifiers are now. out through the capacitor-resistor-members 21/31 to 25135. The currents charge the capacitors with an electrical time constant corresponding to the heat-time constant.
This creates the voltages .ui to u5 on the capacitors, which correspond to the temperature of the individual parts of the protégé. These voltages can now be fed to a relay 20 which has as many windings 201, 202, 204 as the voltages are fed.
It is not necessary here to supply all of the voltages that arise on the capacitors, but rather it is sufficient to pass only those voltages to the relay whose corresponding temperatures have to be monitored.
The illustration of the other parts is still important because they also influence the temperatures of the sensitive parts of the protégé and the stresses in the image. This influence is also taken into account in the model through the coupling of the individual members via the resistors 31 to 35.
Instead of the windings in the relay 20, electronic circuits can of course also be used. The rectifiers 21 are required for mutual separation of the circuits.
The mode of operation of the amplifier 10 must still be described. This should take into account the effect of any current occurring in the reverse direction of the semiconductors. This current only arises from a certain temperature and then also increases the temperature of the semiconductor. In order to be able to simulate this, the voltage ui is fed to the amplifier 10, which corresponds to the temperature in the semiconductor. A current iio is taken from the amplifier and must be added to the current ü.
As soon as a current 1o of a comparable size with the current il arises, the charging of the capacitor 21 is accelerated. So that the amplifier only works from a certain voltage on, it has an exponential characteristic.
Furthermore, the ambient temperature or the temperature of the coolant must also be taken into account. This is done by the fact that the zero point of the voltages ui to u5 arising on the capacitors can be shifted by a further amplifier device 16. This works proportionally to a voltage which is generated by a thermal element 30, for example. This thermocouple can be placed in the coolant of the semiconductor. The amplifier is a voltage amplifier. A voltage proportional to the temperature arises at its output.
So if the temperature of the coolant is high, the voltage on the capacitors is increased by the voltage at the output of the amplifier 16, so that the relay responds at lower values of the voltage ui to u5, i.e. when the cooling temperature is lower would.
The relay 20 can, for example, have a contact which switches off a circuit breaker 17. But you can also use it to operate a reporting device.
The arrangement described enables a very precise mapping of the temperature conditions in electrical devices, including the structural parts surrounding the device. The different temperatures of the individual parts and their mutual influence can be taken into account. The arrangement can therefore work on any construction part even when temperatures are too high. This gives you the great economic advantage of being able to use electrical devices to the limit of their permissibility.
Due to the slight possibility of changing the resistances; Amplifiers and capacitors as well as the response values of the relay are largely adapted to different ambient conditions.
It is of course possible to simplify the arrangement if the conditions for temperature monitoring are not so severe. It would then suffice to simulate a maximum of three parts of the construction of an electrical device and only to supply the voltage of the most sensitive part to a relay.
