4 respectivement.

Le tour automatique représenté comporte un bâti 1 comprenant une poupée dans laquelle est pivotée une broche porte-pièce 2 entraînée en rotation, par l'intermédiaire d'une boîte à vitesse V, par un moteur électrique M. Ce tour automatique est muni d'un appareil porte-outil en bout constitué dans l'exemple illustré par une tourelle revolver 3 portée par un coulisseau 4 soumis à l'action d'un ressort de rappel 70 tendant à le maintenir en position de repos et coulissant sur des glissières 5 portées par le bâti 1 ;
Chaque face A, B, C . ..
Automatic lathe The metallurgical industry requires more and more large capacity automatic lathes, but the practice and experience acquired on medium capacity lathes have proven that the efforts required to control the movements of the tool-holder smooth slides reach, for such lathes already, very high values which are difficult to reconcile with the requirements of safety and precision of work currently imposed. It is therefore impossible using:
means currently available, usually cams, to further increase the capacity of automatic lathes, for example for machining bars with a diameter greater than 70 mm, some of the control cams and more especially the cam actuating the slide carrying the revolver or the tool-holder spindles at the end which have several lobes would be too flexible, too elastic and too fragile in view of the considerable forces which they must withstand.
To try to remedy these. drawbacks certain manufacturers have replaced the flat cams with drum cams, comprising guide grooves for a probe, arranged on the surface of cylindrical drums. These drum cams are exaggeratedly bulky and can only be used for a specific machining operation. Such cams are much too expensive to compensate for the minimal advantages which they entail.
In the case of small series of repetitive parts, it is necessary to provide for the storage of these drum cams, which entails large costs given the dimensions and weight of these cams.
The installation of these is always a long operation and must be carried out by qualified personnel, which makes the change of the cams and the adjustment of the lathe, with a view to the production of a new series of parts , very expensive and therefore reduces the effective efficiency of the lathe, all the more so since during the change of the cams and the adjustment of the cleats the lathe is immobilized.
In addition, cams must be calculated and executed with great care to ensure the desired precision of the finished part. It is often the case that several sets of test cams must be executed before one can design and machine the final set of cams necessary to control an economical machining cycle for the production of a given room.
In fact, in the case of complicated parts, it is generally no longer possible to determine the cam set required by the calculation and there is no experimental means making it possible to determine the set of cams quickly and inexpensively. most economical cams. This leads to time losses which are sometimes out of proportion with the series of parts to be executed.
To limit the forces exerted on the camshafts, manufacturers had the idea of using power amplifying members controlled by cams, these amplifying members supplying from an external source the energy necessary for the actuation of the cams. . moving parts of the lathe.
However, such amplifying members are subject to relatively infrequent faults, but nevertheless inadmissible for the operation of an automatic lathe.
Indeed, the improper operation of one of these power amplifying members generally leads to the destruction of the lathe, in any case to serious deterioration of the latter. Such accidents, although rare, have a decisive influence on the efficiency of a lathe, which must be repaired, which can require a rather long downtime of the lathe.
Lathes provided with electromechanical control stations involve a large number of mechanically actuated electrical contacts which, from the point of view of the operating safety of the lathe, is not desirable.
Other manufacturers make use of electronic control stations which lead to very complex installations, the cost of which is out of proportion to the result obtained. Lathes equipped with such control stations have a cost price that is much too high and are therefore practically abandoned at the present time.
Finally, towers provided with hydraulic or pneumatic control stations represent solutions which, from a lathe safety point of view, are acceptable. However, the precision obtained by such control devices is generally not sufficient for a precision lathe or then hydraulic installations. or necessary tires are prohibitively expensive.
The present invention relates to a single-spindle automatic lathe comprising machining stations constituted by lateral and radial tool holders and a tool-holder device at the end, carried by slides whose movements are controlled mechanically, as well as auxiliary devices also mechanically controlled by actuators with adjustable position,
these stations being intended for the execution of a complete cycle of machining operations consisting of a number of operating phases at least equal to the number of tools carried by the tool holder at the end, characterized by the fact that 'it has a single rotary control station comprising sectors distributed around its axis of rotation and the number of which is at least equal to the number of tools carried by the tool-holder device at the end, a first part of this station single control carrying the control members of the respective tool-holder runners,
the number of control members associated with one of these tool-holder slides being equal to the number of movements that said slide must perform in said complete cycle and by the fact that a second and a third part of this single control station respectively carry said actuators of said auxiliary devices and selection members, controlling a speed of rotation of the control station adapted to that of the operating phase in progress.

The automatic lathe shown comprises a frame 1 comprising a headstock in which is pivoted a workpiece spindle 2 driven in rotation, by means of a gearbox at speed V, by an electric motor M. This automatic lathe is provided with a tool-holder device at the end consisting in the example illustrated by a revolving turret 3 carried by a slide 4 subjected to the action of a return spring 70 tending to keep it in the rest position and sliding on slides 5 carried by frame 1;
a tool-holder carriage with crossed slides for turning and threading comprising a transverse slide 6 and a longitudinal slide 7, and two radial tool-holder slides 8, 9 for the sinking or cutting operations.
The slide 6 as well as the two radial carriages 8, 9 sliding on slides mounted on the frame 1 are subjected to the action of the return springs 71, 72, 73 respectively tending to maintain them in a rest position, away from the axis of rotation of the workpiece spindle 2 of the lathe.
This automatic lathe is also provided with auxiliary devices comprising a counting device 10 of the revolving turret, a device, bar feeder 11, a clamping device 12 of the bar being machined with a view to its driving in rotation by the spindle 2 of the lathe, a control mechanism 13 of the gearbox V. Furthermore, this lathe is provided with a drive device 14 of a shaft 15, the purpose of which is described below.
Finally, the automatic lathe comprises a single rotary control station 16, divided into a number of sectors distributed around its drive axis, the number of which is generally equal to or greater than the number of working positions that the end tool holder can take. . In fact, in certain cases it is necessary to have one or two phases of operations during a complete cycle, during which the end tool holder remains in the rest position, intended either for cutting operations, or by controlling certain auxiliary devices such as the bar feeder for example.
This. control station is driven in rotation by said shaft 15, and carries all the control members for the movements of the various tool holders, all the actuators of the auxiliary lathe devices necessary for controlling the relative functions to a full cycle of operations. machining of a part, as well as all the control station rotational speed selection members.
Each of these control members and of these actuating members is connected by a mechanical link causing, in the example illustrated, a positive control of the member of the lathe which it must: control.
The single rotary control station 16 is formed by a body of generally prismatic shape comprising a cylindrical section and a polygonal section, the number of faces of which corresponds to the number of phases of operations included in the complete cycle of machining operations. This number of .phases of operations generally corresponds to the number of working positions that can be occupied or to the number of tools that the tool-holder device can carry at the end.
The polygonal section constitutes the first and third parts of the control station, carrying the control and selection members respectively, while the cylindrical section represents the second part of this control station carrying the actuating members. Each of the faces of this polygonal section of the body, corresponding to the first part of the control station, carries a number of locations P (fig. 5) intended to receive control members of each of the tool-holder slides of the lathe. .
However, the number of control members carried by one face of the control station is only equal to the number of slides to be actuated during the phase of operations considered and controlled by said face (a maximum of five in the example illustrated).
Each side A, B, C. .. F, of the first part of the single control station comprises five locations P intended to receive a control member constituted by a flat cam whose plane is located in a plane parallel or perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the body. .
Usually in. a cycle of normal machining operations, only the slide carrying the end tool holder performs several movements, generally in a number equal to the number of different working positions that it can occupy. On the other hand, all the other slides move only once during the complete cycle of operations, ie during a single phase of machining operations.
Under these conditions, only the end tool-holder slide will be controlled successively by several control members arranged on different faces., Generally on each of them corresponding to different sectors of the control station at corresponding locations P, c ' that is to say on the same section of the control station.
Other types of business cycles. machining can be provided in which several. slides are operated several times, for example twice during the complete cycle. In particular, this is the case when performing a two-part cutting. The corresponding slide will therefore be moved twice during the complete cycle of machining operations, a first time for the pre-cutting and a second time for the actual cutting.
In the present case, each of the faces A ...... F of the control station carries one of the cams 21a ...... f for controlling the slide 4 carrying the revolver turret 3. On the other hand, the slides 6 , 7 and the radial cha riot 9 are each controlled by a single cam 17, 18, 20 respectively, fixed. on the A side of the control station.
The radial carriage 8 intended for a cutting operation to be performed at the end of the operating cycle is controlled by a cam 19 fixed on the face F of the control station.
The working stuffings x, the cams 21a ...... f cooperate successively by means of a feeler k with a lever 37 pivoted on the frame 1 and mechanically connected with a toothed sector 38 engaged in a rack 39 carried by the slide 4 carrying the revolver turret 3. Each of these cams 21a ...... f in fact corresponds to a lobe of a known type of cam intended for the control of a pistol-holder slide.
The cam 17 actuates a feeler g, carried by a lever 25 pivoted on the frame and mechanically connected to a toothed sector 26 cooperating with a 1st rack 27 carried by the transverse slide 6.
The cam 18 actuates a feeler h, carried by a lever 28 pivoted on the frame and mechanically connected to the longitudinal slide 7. This longitudinal slide 7 slides on the transverse slide 6 and is connected to the latter by a spring 29 tending to placing the longitudinal slide 7 in a rest position with respect to the transverse slide 6. This rest position is reached when the face 30 of the longitudinal slide 7 comes into contact with the lateral face of the transverse slide 6 carrying the creation mesh 27.
A feeler i carried by a lever 31, rests on the working face v of the cam 19. The lever 31 is pivoted on the frame of the lathe and is mechanically connected to a toothed sector 32 engaged with a rack 33 carried by the radial tool carriage 8.
The cam 20 actuates a feeler j carried by a lever 34, pivoted on the frame of the lathe and mechanically connected to a toothed sector 35 meshing with a rack 36 carried by the ra dial tool carriage 9.
Each of the mechanical links connecting a cam to the corresponding slide comprises adjustment means R (FIG. 3) making it possible to adjust the amplitude of the or of the displacement of each slide without it being necessary to modify the position of the or of the corresponding cam with respect to the body of the control station, that is to say to modify the slope or the lifting of this cam.
A: portion of the polygonal section of the body constituting the third part of the single control station 16 is provided with fixing grooves 40 in which the selection members, constituted by tabs 41, are engaged. Separating members constituted in the example illustrated by bolts 74 make it possible to fix these cleats in any desired position along these grooves. 40.
The number of fixing grooves 40 is equal to the number of different working speeds at which the single rotary control station can be driven by the drive device 14. Arms 42 in number equal to the fixing grooves 40 and arranged in look of these are pivoted on the frame.
One of the ends of each of these arms 42 is intended to cooperate with the stopper 41 fixed in the corresponding groove 40, while the other actuates a corresponding electrical contact 43, and determines, by means of a device selection of the drive device 14, the working rotational speed of the single rotary control station 16.
In this way it is possible to choose for each operating phase, controlled by a face of the control station, a different speed, suitable for the operations. machining operations to be performed during this phase of operations. On the other hand, the wise passage from one phase of operations to the next, or from one face of the control station to the next, is always carried out at the same speed, also determined by the drive device 14.
This passage from one operating phase to the next can be carried out very quickly, which helps to increase the efficiency of the automatic lap.
The drive device 14 of the single control station 16 comprises a first motor M4 for driving said station at high speed and a second motor M3 at variable speed for its drive at the various working speeds. These motors M2 and M3 can be coupled alternatively to a shaft 44 by means of a coupling 45. This shaft 44 is mechanically connected to the shaft 15 which drives the control station 16 in rotation.
The cylindrical section of the body constituting the second part of the control station 16 carries actuating members constituted by stops 46 whose angular position is adjustable. Each of these stops 46 cooperates with one of the arms 47, 48, 49, 50, 51 pivoted on the frame 1 of the lathe and mechanically connected respectively to the counting device 10 of the revolving turret, to the clamping devices 12 and d bar feeder 11, to the control device 13 of the gearbox, as well as to the coupling 45 of the drive device 14 of the single control station 16, with a view to their control. These mechanical connections and various devices are of known type and are commonly used on automatic lathes; they will therefore not be described in detail here.
The actual actuation of the numbering devices 10, the gearbox control 13, the clamping device 12 and the bar feeder 11, as well as the coupling 45, is carried out by an actuating shaft 52. mechanically connected by the intermediary of a coupling 53, to Lin shaft 75 driven by the motor M1. This coupling 53 is actuated manually by means of an actuator 76.
The operation of the automatic lap described is similar to that of an existing tour of the same type. However, the controls of all the functions relating to a complete cycle of machining operations of a part are centralized on the single control station.
In an alternative embodiment of the control station, illustrated in FIGS. 5 to 11, this has a body. 60 in the general shape of a right prism with a polygonal base over its entire length. Each of the faces 61 of this body constitutes a sector of the control station and comprises a longitudinal guide groove. Each face 61 is covered with a removable plate 65, the exact position of which relative to the body 60 is determined by a rib 62 penetrating into the guide groove and the centering pins 64.
These plates 65 are fixed to the body by means of internal hexagonal screws 66 screws seated in internal threads 63.
On each removable plate 65 are provided, on the one hand, locations P intended to receive control members and, on the other hand, grooves 40 intended for fixing the selection members 41 as well as control members. actuation 46.
This variant embodiment has the advantage of facilitating to an appreciable extent the setting and adjustment of the cams, as well as of the actuating and selection members. Indeed, this work can be carried out under very good conditions, for example on a table or on a workbench far from the machine and even in a room specially provided for this purpose. It is therefore possible to carry out this work with much more precision than if one proceeds to the positioning of cams and actuators on the body, when the latter is in place on the body. tower.
This new arrangement therefore avoids taking the control station out of the lathe, a long and delicate operation, when it is necessary to carry out a very precise adjustment of the slope and the lifting of each cam and of the position of the components. actuation, this results in a saving of time, which results in an increase in the efficiency of the lathe.
It is even possible, when there is a number of plates 65 greater than that of the faces 61 of the body 60, to adjust the cams and the actuating and selection members on a new set of plates, corresponding to a new machining cycle, while the lathe is operating according to its, old machining cycle. The idle time for changing the removable plates 65 is then insignificant, which further results in a substantial increase in the efficiency of the lathe.
It is even possible, when small repetitive series of parts have to be carried out, to store a set of plates 65 corresponding to the complete machining cycle of this part during the manufacture of other parts. In this way, in order to perform a new series of these parts, it suffices to fix said plates 65 on the body 60 of the control station. It is thus possible to eliminate the work of adjusting the lathe before each new series of parts to be machined and this results in an increase in the efficiency of the lathe.
The number of faces 61 may be different from six, this depends on the number of stages of machining operations required, of a complete machining cycle. The number of cams and actuating members carried by a face 61 depends on the number of members of the lathe to be controlled to perform the phase of machining operations corresponding to said face 61.
In another variant (Figs. 12 and 13) the single rotary control station is formed by discs 80 fixed in a removable manner or not on the shaft 15. One of the side faces. Of each of these discs 80 comprises locations 81 intended to receive control, actuation or selection members 82.
Each disc 80 corresponds in fact to a portion of the control station of the machine described, carrying a control member, an actuator or a selection member, depending on whether it is part of the first, of the second. or the third part of the control station.
Each location 81 of these disks corresponds to a location P of a face of a polygonal-shaped control station. It is obvious that in a variant each of the lateral faces of the discs 80 could be arranged so as to carry a control, actuation or selection member. In addition, the peripheral surface of these discs could also be used for fixing the cleats with adjustable position intended to control a member of the automatic lathe.
It is obvious that the three parts of the control station could be separated. from each other - while still being driven by the same tree. The arrangement of the different parts of the control station will generally be dictated by the realization of the mechanical links connecting each of these parts to the corresponding components.
In addition, it is even possible to provide that certain parts of the control station, in particular that controlling the end tool holder, are arranged so that their axis of rotation forms an angle with the axis of rotation of the rest of the tool. control station. In this case there must be a mechanical connection between the various parts of the control station ensuring synchronous and demodromic drive of all of them.
The shape, as well as the fixing of the cams, of the actuating and selection members could be different from those described or illustrated. Likewise the shape and fixing of the plates. 65 could be different, produced by a known device. Each of the plates 65 could be constituted by several independent fixed sections. independently of each other on the body 60.
The body of the single control station could be entirely cylindrical, in this case each of its sectors would be formed by the portion of cylindrical surface included between two generators of the control station, or even have another shape, for example that of 'a non-regular prism.
The drive of this control station could be carried out directly by the shaft 44 or by the motors M2, M3 so as to eliminate the shaft 15 which is frequently the seat of torsional deformations leading to inaccuracies in the machining and creating a weak point linking there capacity of the turn.
On the other hand, the shape of the control or actuator members may be different as long as the desired functions are fulfilled.
Each of these flat cams can advantageously be constituted by an adjustable cam of the type described in. No. 369642 and comprising a support 22, a first part 23 angularly displaceable relative to the support 22 and a second part 24 displaceable relative to the first part 23. Fastening means are provided for fixing the support on the single control station and on the other hand the relative positions of the supports and the two parts 23, 24.
These flat cams, the slope and length of the active profile of which can be adjusted independently of one another, can be fixed in a parallel plane or in a plane perpendicular to the shaft 15.
This design and this original realization make it possible to obtain the following advantages over existing automatic lathes 1) Increase in the capacity of the lathe. In fact, each movement of each slide is controlled by a separate cam. Under these conditions, it is possible to produce cams whose profile is simple and which can be very robust. It can be seen in particular that each lobe of a known control cam of the revolver-holder slide is replaced here by a separate cam so that all the troubles due to the flexibility and the fragility of the lobes of the known cams are entirely eliminated.
2) The capacity of the lathe can therefore be increased without compromising operational safety. Indeed, all of the controls are mechanical.
3. The possibilities of machining different parts using one and the same set of actuators and controls are greatly increased by the fact that all actuators can be connected. made up of cams, the slope and lift of which can be modified, chosen and fixed at will, while the actuation and selection members are in positions.
adjustable on the control station. It follows that the same set of cams can be used for controlling very different operating cycles simply by modifying the slope and the lift of these cams, as well as the speed of rotation of the control station. It is therefore possible to save time by eliminating the calculation, preparation and machining of several sets of test cams. This is especially striking if one uses adjustable cams of the type described in accompanying patent application NI, 369642.
4) The unproductive time of a revolution due to the positioning of the cams and their adjustment is reduced in all cases if a control station according to the second embodiment is used, comprising removable face plates equipped with adjustable cams as described in patent No. 369642, the slope and length of the active profile of which can be adjusted independently of one another.
5) It is possible to almost completely eliminate the costs related to the calculation and the manufacture of the cams, these being from now on very simple form.
6. The passage from one phase of operations to the next is carried out very quickly, the control station being driven at high speed for the wise passage from one of its faces to the next. This is made possible in particular because the feelers of the various slides are no longer in contact with the cams during this movement. The dead time between two phases is reduced to the time required for indexing the revolver.
The calculation of the machining cycle for complicated parts has shown that it is possible to reduce the duration of a complete machining cycle by 15 to 20%, by reducing the downtime between the phases of operations.
7. All the mechanical links connecting the smooth necks to their control cam having adjustment means, it is possible to adjust the amplitude of the displacement of these slides without modifying the -form or the position of these cams. This leads to an appreciable saving of time during the production of a new series of parts.
8. The torque necessary for setting the control station to rotate is constant owing to the fact that throughout the duration of a phase of machining operations the contact points of the probes g .. - k on the cams 17 to 21 corresponding to this machining phase are always located at the same distance from the axis of rotation of this control station.
