Hydrochinon, Butoxyanisol usw., erwiesen.

The following ketals of the formula I or enol ethers of the formula II can preferably be used: 2,2-dialkoxy-propane 2,2-dialkoxy-butane 2,2-dialkoxy-pentane 3,3-dialkoxy-pentane 4-methyl-2,2 -dialkoxy-pentane 1, l-dialkoxy-cyclohexane 2-alkoxy-propene (l) 2-alkoxy-butene (2) 2-alkoxy-pentene- (2) 3-alkoxy-pentene- (3) 4-methyl -2-alkoxy-pentene- (2) 1-alkoxy-cyclohexen- (l)
Methoxy, ethoxy or butoxy compounds are expediently used.
When the ketals of the formula I or the enol ethers of the formula II are reacted with the tertiary propargylic alcohols, the catalytically active acidic agent used is advantageously strong mineral acids such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and the like; acid salts, such as B. potassium bisulfate; strong organic acids such as B. p-toluenesulfonic acid, oxalic acid and trichloroacetic acid; and Lewis acids, e.g. B. zinc chloride or boron trifluoride etherate. The reaction can be carried out either with or without a solvent. As a solvent, z. B. hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, hexane, heptane, isooctane and petroleum ether can be used.
According to a special embodiment, part of the solvent is distilled off during the reaction, the alcohol formed in the reaction also being distilled and thus removed from the reaction medium. It has also proven advantageous to add an alcohol-binding agent to the reaction mixture, e.g. B. enol ether in excess to be added. The tertiary propargyl alcohols mentioned react with the enol ethers or ketals initially to form allenketones, which can be converted into α, B-, γ-unsaturated ketones by isomerization.
If a propargyl alcohol of the formula II is used as a starting point, allenketones of the formula are usually obtained first
EMI2.1
Depending on the prevailing reaction conditions, these allene ketones are more or less converted into the corresponding ketones of the formula V, which are unsaturated in the a, -, y, d-positions by isomerization.
EMI2.2
The isomerization of the allenic ketones can be carried out by suitable measures, e.g. B. by treatment with acidic or basic agents or by the influence of heat. For example, the conversion succeeds practically completely by brief heating to about 150 ° C., by boiling with dilute acetic acid or preferably by treatment with dilute sodium hydroxide solution in methanol at room temperature.
You can z. B. proceed in such a way that the starting compounds mentioned, dissolved in isooctane, heated to reflux in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid and the resulting reaction product is treated in methanol solution at room temperature with sodium hydroxide solution.
If desired, the procedure can also be such that extensive isomerization already takes place during the reaction of the substituted propargyl alcohol with the compound of the formula I or II, so that the α, /? -,, -unsaturated ketones are formed practically in a one-step process. The necessary requirements for this are: longer reaction times and the use of larger amounts of the acidic catalyst than are necessary for the production of the allen ketones.
For example, while the use of 1 loo p-toluenesulfonic acid, based on the ketal or enol ether used, is sufficient in most cases for the formation of allenketones, the use of 1-5 lo p-toluenesulfonic acid proves to be used for the simultaneous isomerization of the allenketones as cheap.
A suitable method for this embodiment is e.g. B. in that one dissolves the two starting components in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid as a catalyst in toluene, heated for a long time at higher temperatures, a mixture is formed in which the u ,, -,;, d-unsaturated ketones predominate. By adding copper powder or copper salts, the formation of these products can be increased under otherwise identical conditions.
Because of the oxygen sensitivity of the starting, intermediate and end products, all reactions are expediently carried out in an inert atmosphere, e.g. B. under nitrogen. The addition of antioxidants such. B.
Hydroquinone, butoxyanisole, etc., proved.
The reaction is expediently followed in each case by analytical control. The reaction can be interrupted as soon as the desired ketone is present in maximum yield. The degree of conversion and the formation of the desired ketones, e.g. B. the compounds of formula IV or V can be followed on the basis of the UV and IR spectra. The disappearance of the propargylic alcohol used as the starting material can also be determined by performing the acetylene test with silver nitrate.
The unsaturated ketones formed can be isolated and purified by methods known per se. In many cases, the distribution between petroleum ether and methanol-water mixtures has proven to be a particularly gentle cleaning method.
The allenketones of the grouping obtained by the process according to the invention
EMI3.1
are new, while the a, fol, y, 8-unsaturated ketones are in part well-known compounds. The unsaturated ketones obtained according to the invention are valuable substances of diverse importance. For example, they can be used as fragrances and / or as intermediates for the production of fragrances, carotenoid compounds or fat-soluble vitamins.
