<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for quickly reversing the polarity or direction of rotation of a DC machine operating as a generator or motor. The reversal of the polarity or the direction of rotation of DC machines, e.g. B. the polarity of the generator voltage in Leonard drives is done in a known manner by reversing the polarity of the excitation field of the generator feeding the motor. In the case of large drives, however, the direct current power required for excitation is quite considerable, so that the switching means required for switching and polarity reversal are complex.
In view of the usually very high switching frequency, as occurs with drives in machine tools, this is synonymous with a reduction in operational reliability due to the inevitable wear of the contacts. Often there is also the requirement to control the switching maneuvers from different points.
Various proposals have already been made to reverse the polarity of DC machines or to reverse their direction of rotation in the most economical way possible. A circuit has become known which reverses the polarity of the generator field with the aid of an additional excitation winding on an auxiliary excitation machine. The polarity of the excitation current of the auxiliary exciter and thus also of the excitation current of the Leonard generator via the armature voltage is reversed via a multiple tapped voltage divider by simple push-button switches.
Although contactors or the like are no longer required here because of the low switching capacity, another exciter is still required. The speed of reversal is also not very great.
The invention is now concerned with the task of bringing about the polarity reversal or speed reversal of DC machines in a particularly reliable manner using robust transducers, with a high speed of reversal being sought at the same time.
According to the invention, two transducers act on two opposing excitation windings of the DC machine in such a way that only one excitation winding carries current and that the rapid reversal is triggered by a current pulse in one of the transducer windings that is limited in time as a result of the internal current flows and is maintained by a mib coupling winding becomes.
The polarity or the direction of rotation can be reversed by pressing a control circuit key of the other transducer, which feeds the corresponding opposing excitation winding of the DC machine.
The drawing shows an embodiment of the switching device according to the invention, only the principle being reproduced and all auxiliary, safety and regulating devices being omitted.
In the figure, 1 denotes the armature of the Leonard generator, 2 and 3 the two opposing excitation windings, 4 and 5 bridge-connected rectifiers, 6 and 7 two transducer sets in a self-saturation circuit. A current source, not shown, supplies the working windings 6a and 7a with alternating current, which is rectified by the bridge rectifiers 4 and 5 and fed to the excitation windings 2 and 3, respectively.
The positive feedback windings 6e and 7e, which act in the sense of the control windings 6c and 7c, are parallel to the last ones. Their current is interrupted by the auxiliary contacts 8b and 9b, possibly also by the remote control auxiliary contacts 8'b and 9'b. The winding 6b and 7b, which is fed by a direct current source (not shown), has a desiccating effect and locks the transducers. The control windings 6c act in opposition to them
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and 7c, which are connected to the direct current source via the push button contacts 8a and 9a or the remote control contacts 8'a and 9'a.
The windings 6d and 7d are fed directly from the generator armature via the directional valves 12 and 13 and therefore carry a current that is always blocking regardless of the respective generator polarity. works. Because the positive feedback windings 6e and 7e predominate, this blocking effect only occurs during the time interval between pressing the other button in each case until the armature voltage becomes zero and thus speeds up the reversal considerably.
Finally, the rectified voltage at the excitation windings 2 and 3 is also fed to the resistors 10 and 11, which are switched into the control circuits and thus supply a voltage drop opposite to the DC voltage source.
The mode of operation according to the invention is explained in more detail below. When the drive is started: The auxiliary power sources are switched on. The transducers 6 and 7 are still blocked, the generator 1 does not provide any voltage. When the button 9a (forward) is pressed, current flows through the control winding 7c and opens the transducer 7, that is to say: the inductance of the working winding 7a drops to small values. The: starting working alternating current is rectified and excites the winding 3 of the generator.
At the same time, the positive feedback winding 7e receives current and keeps the transducer 7 open even after releasing the pushbutton 9a. Furthermore, current will flow through the resistor 11 and generate a voltage drop there. By means of a sliding contact, an amount of voltage is tapped which is equal to the auxiliary DC voltage, whereby the control current in winding 7c becomes zero. This is to ensure that the excitation current of the generator is independent of the switching status of the push button.
Otherwise, pressing the button would cause the generator voltage or the motor speed to fluctuate.
The reversal is initiated by pressing button 8a (backward), whereby the process just described is initially repeated for transducer 6.
The excitation winding 2 receives current and causes an opposite voltage of the generator armature. At the same time, however, the transducer 7 must be blocked, which is done by interrupting its positive feedback circuit with the help of the positively actuated contact Sb. After the positive feedback winding 7e has been switched off, only the desaturating winding 7b remains energized, which is also supported by the likewise blocking winding 7d.
Only after the excitation current has subsided in FIG. 3 and the associated reversal of direction of the armature voltage is also the winding 7d de-energized because of the directional valve 13. Their purpose of accelerating the reversal process by additional desaturation of the control transducer 7 is thus fulfilled.
Because of the completely symmetrical structure of the circuit, the reverse control game can be repeated continuously by briefly pressing the buttons 8a or 9a. Independently of this, control pulses can also be given from remote locations using parallel keys 8'a and 9'a. Since transducers have a considerable power gain, the power of the control pulses is very small. The switching load on the key contacts is therefore practically negligible.
In summary, it can be said that the circuit according to the invention works very reliably with relatively little effort because of its insensitivity to operating errors and because of the lack of wear-and-tear parts, which is particularly important in the case of Leonard drives for machine tools.
