Die Reaktionslösung wird filtriert und am Wasserstrahlvakuum eingedampft. Den kristallinen Rückstand versetzt man mit Wasser, stellt mit 2n- Natronlauge auf pH = 5 und extrahiert mit Chloro form.

or its tautomeric forms has not yet become known in the literature. The novel 3-halogen compounds can carry any further substituents, such as B. in the 2,5 and / or 6-position lower alkyl radicals or aryl radicals, z.
B. unsubstituted or substituted phenyl radicals, such as A1ky1-, alkoxy or halogeno-phenyl radicals, or on the secondary nitrogen atom, z. B. lower alkyl or aralkyl radicals. A particularly suitable halogen in the 3-position is bromine.
The new compounds have valuable pharmacological properties. They have a tumor-inhibiting effect and are active against the vaccinia virus. In particular, they have sedative and antipyretic effects. They can therefore be used as remedies or as intermediates in making such uses.
The 3-bromopyrazolo [2,3-a] imidazolidine of the formula is particularly valuable with regard to its sedative-hypnotic and anti-virus effect

The process according to the invention for the preparation of the new compounds is characterized in that a pyrazolo [2,3-a] imidazolidine which is u: n-substituted in the 3-position is halogenated.
Obtained 3-halopyrazolo [2,3-a] imidazolidines with substitutable nitrogen atoms can be substituted in a manner known per se, eg. B. with reactive esters of alcohols, z. B. alkanols or aralkanols, depending on the nature of the reacting nitrogen atom, tertiary amines or quaternary ammonium compounds are obtained.
As reactive esters come in particular esters of strong inorganic or organic acids, such as hydrohalic acids, z. B. chlorine, iodine or hydrobromic acid, sulfuric acid or organic sulfonic acids, eg. B. alkyl or aryl sulfonic acids, such as Toluolsulfonsäuiren in question.
Depending on the reaction conditions, the new compounds are obtained in the form of the free compounds or their salts, which can be converted into one another in a customary manner. Free bases can be converted into their salts, e.g.
