Eine solch grosse Temperaturdifferenz zwischen Kühlmittel und Moderator verursacht aber ohne Zwi schenisolation einen beachtlichen Wärmeverlust des Kühlmittels an den Moderator. Dieser Verlust wirkt sich so aus, dass im Moderator grösseno#rdnungsmässig 10 % der Reaktorgesarntwärmeleistung anfällt, zu der noch zusätzlich die durch Neutronenbremsung und ;
Thermal insulation for the moderator boiler and the components of liquid-moderated nuclear reactors passing through it In heterogeneous nuclear reactors, the moderator should be kept cooler than the coolant during operation for reasons of neutron economy. In natural uranium reactors with Wassermodera tor, this leads to circuits in which, for example, the Mo derator is separated from the coolant. is performed by a special cooling system, which in turn has the task of cooling the moderator to a temperature that is still significantly below the coolant temperature.
If, for example, the moderate coolant temperature of 26011 C is lowered to about 1200 C , about 2 1 / o reactivity is gained.
Such a large temperature difference between the coolant and the moderator, however, causes a considerable loss of heat from the coolant to the moderator without intermediate insulation. This loss has such an effect that the moderator has a size of 10% of the total reactor heat output, in addition to which the neutron braking and;
, -Absorption in the moderator released heat output of about 5 % of the total output. This heat, which arises in the moderator at a low temperature level, can only be used to some extent, for example when preheating the condensate. The rest, if it cannot be used for heating purposes, must be uselessly cooled away.
This leads to a strong reduction in the efficiency of the reactor system.
By attaching a thermal insulation layer between the parts of the moderator boiler exposed to the coolant, e.g. As is well known, this loss can be effectively reduced for the moderator. A prerequisite, however, is that the amount of neutron-absorbing material that is inevitably used for the insulation does not exceed the level of permissible absorption.
This does not apply, for example, to such heat insulation in which porous material is used as the insulator, the pores of which with the moderator liquid, eg. B. water, are filled. With this insulation, just like with technically comparable metal or glass wool insulation, the volume percentage of the material is so high that neutron absorption is not negligible.
In contrast, the invention aims to create a thermal insulation in which the proportional volume percent of the absorber material can be made much smaller than in the case of the known insulation and in which there are also some disadvantages of the aforementioned insulation, such as the risk of smell and contamination, let avoid.
The solution is that a moderator-filled layer of insulating foils is provided, in which the layers leave spaces between them of such a size that the heat transferred from the moderator fluid to the fluid in the moderator tank by convection by convection Conduction transferred heat is negligible.
The drawing illustrates this schematically an embodiment; It shows: FIG. 1 in a partial longitudinal section view of a reactor coolant guide tube surrounded by the new insulating film layer (in extracts), FIG. 2 a horizontal section along line II-11 through the arrangement according to FIG.
Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 show enlarged the components lying in the dashed border field 111 of Fig. 1. According to FIGS. 1 to 3, a moderator-precipitated layering of insulating foils is provided as thermal insulation, which, as FIG. 2 shows particularly clearly, is placed on a coolant guide tube of the Mo - Deratorkessel is applied, has the shape of a coil 1 .
The insulating film encloses the guide tube 2 in three layers, which are kept at a distance by the body's own protuberances 3 of the film. The outer end of the winding is held by hooks 4 on the winding. It should be mentioned that the coolant ducts form a structural unit with the moderator tank, which is not visible in the drawing.
They penetrate the boiler like a grid and contain the fuel elements in their interior, on the surface of which the coolant flows along. In the present case, the fuel elements fill the hatched zone 5 so that the coolant flows in the annular space 6 .
The distance between the insulating film layers is - as mentioned - such that no or at most an extremely low convection is possible in the moderator liquid present in the gaps. In order to avoid corrosion in the insulation, a certain circulation of the moderator should be allowed for cleaning purposes.
Therefore, the insulating film layers of the cooling medium guide tubes do not close tightly at the joints with the moderator vessel, and thus leave inlet and outlet openings free for the moderator. When using D.0 as moderator, the spacing between the film layers is 0.5 mm. The achievable thermal resistance is proportional to the number of layers provided.
The thickness of the foils, which can be aluminum or zirconium foils or metal foils alloyed with these substances, should not exceed 0.1 mm. The additional neutron absorption caused by the insulation therefore only causes a negligible increase in the absorption caused by the coolant duct pipes with a wall thickness of 2 mm. The corresponding loss of reactivity is more than made up for by the gain in thermal efficiency achieved with the insulation.
Just like the coolant guide tube, the moderator vessel can also be insulated, either on the outside by an insulating film wrap of the type shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 or on the inside by means of a corresponding pre-formed film layer. In the above-mentioned cases, the winding can also be made up of concentrically nested shells which are either cylindrical or prismatic in shape depending on the cross-section of the coolant ducts or the boiler.
The integral, elastic sheaths of the coolant guide tubes expediently have an assembly longitudinal slot. But it is also possible to use half-shells. Instead of the protuberances, prongs angled inwards and pre-cut in the material can also be seen.
In addition to the particularly good insulating effect already mentioned, the described insulating film layer is significantly less susceptible to failure than, for example, ceramic insulating material, which breaks easily due to impact or thermal stresses. The same applies to porous material, which can also give rise to contamination of the moderator. In the present layering, impact or pressure can at most cause a small deflection of the foils. However, this does not impair the function of the view.
