The present invention relates to an electromagnetic rotary machine, in particular capable of functioning as a clutch and ple neck variator and / or as a brake.
The rotary machine according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises at least one electromagnet and a rotary support made of non-magnetic material connected to a shaft journaled in the geometrical axis of this electromagnet. , this support having one or more axes placed between the poles of the electromagnet, each axis carrying an annular core of magnetic material which can rotate freely on this axis and whose face facing the electromagnet is furnished with a film of diamagnetic lubricating material.
If the electromagnet is mobile, it can be wedged on a rotating shaft, the supply of the coil of this electromagnet with electric current being able to be effected for example by slip rings. In this case, the excitation of the coil establishes an angular coupling between the two shafts of the electromagnet and the support, and the machine functions as a clutch or a torque converter, depending on the degree of excitation. the coil.
If the electromagnet is fixed, the excitation of the coil tends to immobilize the support with respect to this fixed electromagnet and the machine then operates as a brake .
According to another variant embodiment, this machine can also constitute a clutch if the electromagnet is fixed and if one interposes between this electromagnet and the non-magnetic support carrying the annular core (s) a magnetically polarizable plate wedged on a rotating shaft which must be angled bent to the support shaft.
In the accompanying drawings are shown, to by way of examples, two embodiments of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is a diametrical sectional view of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the rotary support of the machine shown in FIG. 1, a single annular nucleus being shown.
Fig. 3 is a diametrical sectional view of the second embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a front view of a polarisable plate of the machine shown in FIG. 3. According to the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the shaft 1, which is driven by any motor, carries an electromagnet 2, keyed on this shaft as indicated in 2a. We have shown in 2b the coil of this electromagnet, the power of which is provided by slip rings 3. This machine also includes a fixed electromagnet < B> 7, whose coil is indicated in 7b.
A support 6 made of non-magnetic material is angularly integral with a shaft 6a, which can form a use shaft or which can be connected to such a tree. This shaft 6a is journalled in the carcasses of the electromagnets 2 and 7 by bearings or brackets 6b. The support 6 is by example in plastic material and, according to the embodiment shown, it is molded with the use shaft 6a.
The support 6 has, between the poles of the electromagnets 2, 7, pairs of axes 5, </ B > 5a. The axes 5 are directed towards electromagnet 2, while the axes 5a are directed towards the electromagnet 7. These axes are used for the to rotation mounting of annular cores 4, 4a made of magnetic material. As seen in fig. 1, parts of each nucleus are located opposite the North and South poles generated in the breakage of each electromagnet by re-excitation of its coil.
Depending on the power that one wishes to use from from a given electromagnet, one or more pairs of axes 5, can be provided. 5a and one or more pairs of annular nuclei 4, 4a. A single axis and a single core have been shown in FIG. 2.
According to the embodiment shown in the figure, 1 the magnetic cores 4, 4a are solid cores, which are mounted so to able to rotate freely on the axes < B> 5, 5a, the dimensions of these axes and these cores being calculated in such a way to to allow a slight axial movement cores on the axes, in order to eliminate any unnecessary mechanical friction when the conjugate electromagnet is at rest. However, this axial movement will preferably be kept at a low value, in order to avoid impacts that are harmful to the resistance of the materials at the time of the excitation of the electromagnets. .
The solid cores 4, 4a can have any desired composition, of magnetic character, and they are lined on their face directed towards the conjugated electromagnet with a very thin film of lubricating material, for example of molybdenum disulphide, of diamagnetic character. .
The solid cores shown could be replaced, if desired, by bearings or similar stops, capable of fulfilling by their magnetic character a function equivalent to that of solid cores, that is to say say to complete the path of the magnetic flux generated during the excitation of the coil of each electromagnet.
The operation of this machine is as follows: we will first study the operation of the part of the machine forming the clutch and torque variator. When re-energizing the coil 2b of the electromagnet 2, a magnetic flux is generated in the carcass of this electromagnet, as indicated above, forming North and South poles, and the magnetic circuit is completed through through each core 4 which then undergoes a polarization, through through the extremely narrow material air gap formed by the film of lubricant.
The production of North and South poles in the parts of the 4 cores which are in front of the North and South poles formed on the carcass causes the rotation of these 4 cores around their axes 5, at the same time for electromagnetic attraction through through the film of lubricant carried by these cores. It will be understood that this rotation of the core continually renews this film of lubricant, reducing mechanical friction.
The aforementioned magnetic attraction establishes an angular coupling between rarbre 1 and the support 6, as a result of the torque resulting from the driving effect exerted by the annular cores 4 on the ex centered 5 axes of the support. The degree of excitation of the coil 2b determines the magnitude of magnetic attraction produced and, depending on the resistive torque applied to shaft 6a, the slip between electro - magnet 2 and the support 6, so that this part of the machine operates as a torque converter. The rotation of the cores 4 continues until the complete gluing of these cores against the carcass of the electromagnet.
The other part of the machine, which includes the fixed electromagnet 7, works as a brake. The operation is similar to that described above for the clutch part of this machine. Braking can be more or less rapid, depending on the degree of excitation of the coil 7b.
If desired, a spring can be placed between the cores 4, 4a and the support 6. The purpose of this spring is to keep the lubricated faces of the cores parallel to the faces of the electro - magnets. Flat, spiral or geometrically shaped springs can be provided to for this effect, promoting constant pressure and a parallel range of the surfaces in contact.
The magnetic support can be made of metal, alloy or plastic, and it has a mechanical strength providing the necessary safety margin to withstand the forces for which it is intended.
In fig. 3 and 4, there is shown a machine forming a clutch, comprising a fixed electromagnet. The motor shaft 21 is journalled here by bearings 2a in the electromagnet 22, which is stationary and whose coil 22b is fed through through an orifice 15 . The motor shaft 21 has, at its end, a part of larger diameter 8, which is angularly secured to a polarizable plate designated in a general way by reference 12.
A support made of non-magnetic material has been indicated at 26 which is similar to that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and which is made integral with a use shaft 26a, this support being centered by bearings or bearings 26b. The support 26 </ B> has eccentric axes 25 serving for mounting rotary annular cores 24 as before.
As can be seen in fig. 3 and 4, the polarizable plate 12 has an internal magnetic crown 9, an external magnetic crown 9a and a median non-magnetic crown 10. orifices 11, l la are made in the crowns 9 and 10, as shown in fig. 4, to improve cooling.
During the excitation of the coil 22b, the North and South poles are generated in the plate 12, by polarization of this plate, and as before, this results in a magnetic attraction of the cores 24, < B> to through the gap materialized by the film of lubricant which lines their face directed towards the electromagnet 22 and the plate 12, which is interposed between the cores 24 and the electromagnet 22. The polarization of the cores 24 here again causes their rotation, with the same results as those indicated for the machine visible in FIGS. 1 and 2.
It is obvious that we can combine here to the other side of the support 26 an electromagnet and cores, in order to achieve a brake. This arrangement of the springs can also be incorporated to , as indicated above. Fixed or rotating electromagnets may have two or more pairs of concentric or alternating poles.
The power which must be controlled when supplying the coils of the electromagnets of the machines described is very low. Thus, for a machine working in a torque converter, the power to to control is less than than a tenth of a watt per horsepower, while it is on average d 'one kilowatt per horsepower in ordinary direct current motor devices. This low control power allows in particular the use of very simplified electronic control devices, semiconductor.
The annular cores of the machine may have a cross section of any geometric shape, but they will preferably have a cylindrical shape.
These cores can be of any magnetic material. A seemingly judicious solution consists in using cores formed by agglomerates of porous iron. The agglomerates used are impregnated beforehand with a diamagnetic lubricant, generally solid , for example molybdenum disulphide or a combination of silver-disulphide of molybdenum. Due to porosity, lubricant constantly returns to the surface during operation to form a lubricating film ( self-lubricating ). The cores can be treated directly to facilitate this self-lubrication,
and if desired, the bearing surfaces of the electromagnets can undergo similar treatments.
A machine of the type described has many possible applications. It can work as a torque transmitter and limiter, as a speed variator, as a clutch and as a fast or slow action brake. It can be usefully applied to any electromechanical constructions, for example traction machines, hoists, machine tools, printing machines, etc., whenever 'you need precise speed control and an adjustable response at as you wish, both in terms of torque or speed variation and in braking. The small volume of the machines described and the very low current absorbed in relation to to the power transmitted further increase the interest.
