Ski and method of making it The present invention relates to a ski and a method of making it.
The ski according to the invention differs from the known skis in that it consists of a thermoplastic material and is reinforced with at least one resilient metal insert running in the longitudinal direction of the ski in order to ensure the required elasticity and spring properties.
According to the inventive method, who on a rigid base, the surface of which is shaped in the side view of the bend of the finished ski, several layers of plastic with interposing a resilient metal insert and clamped together with the base, after which the resilient metal insert by connecting to an electrical power source is heated to a temperature corresponding to or slightly above the melting point of the plastic used,
so that the plastic layers melt at least in the area of the metal reinforcement and thereby intimately connect with each other as well as with the reinforcement itself, after which the ski is left in the form or on the rigid base until the melted plastic layers solidify again.
The reinforcement, which can for example consist of spring steel tape, is expediently perforated so that the plastic can flow through the perforation holes in the spring steel reinforcement during the liquefaction phase and the individual plastic layers can be intimately connected to one another.
High molecular weight polyethylene, for example with a molecular weight of 1500,000, is expediently used as the thermoplastic. This material not only has a high level of gliding ability, but is also characterized by its particularly high resistance to mechanical effects, which gives skis made from such a material an exceptional level of wear resistance.
The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, namely, FIG. 1 shows a side view and FIG. 2 shows a plan view of the ski, FIG. 3 shows a longitudinal section on a larger scale along the line III-III in FIG. Fig:
4 shows a longitudinal section on a larger scale along the line IV-IV in FIG. 2, FIG. 5 shows a cross section on a larger scale along the line VV in FIG. 2, FIG. 6 shows a cross section on a larger scale along the line VI-VI in FIG 2, and FIG. 7 a section of the insert in plan view.
The ski shown consists of three plastic layers welded together, preferably of high molecular weight polyethylene with a molecular weight of, for example 1,500,000. Between the three plastic layers, two band-shaped spring steel inserts 4, 5 are arranged. The latter are perforated in such a way that the plastic layers hang together through the perforation holes 6, i. H. can be merged with one another. The spring steel inserts extend over the entire width of the ski.
According to an appropriate manufacturing process, a first plastic layer 3, forming the ski sole, of three to four millimeters in thickness, is placed on a rigid pad serving as a mold, the surface of which is shaped in the side elevation of the bend of the fer term ski.
The resilient metal insert 5 then comes to rest on this lowermost plastic layer 3. This is then alternately followed by a plastic layer 2 and a second resilient metal insert 4, and finally, at the top, the cover layer 1 made of thermoplastic material, cut accordingly in the side elevation of the top of the finished ski. The different layers are now firmly clamped together with the rigid base,
The plastic layers can be preheated for easier processing or deformation by high-frequency heating or in some other way, for example to about 2000 C. After the various layers have been stretched, the metal inserts 4, 5 are connected to an electrical power source and to one of the melting point of the The plastic used is heated at least approximately to the corresponding or slightly higher temperature, the plastic layers 1, 2, 3 at least in the area of the metal reinforcements 4
5 melt and bond intimately with each other as well as with the metal inlays. The ski is then layers until the molten plastic re-solidifies, which can be accelerated by quenching, left in the clamped state in the form or on the rigid base.
After re-solidification, the ski is removed from the shape and, if necessary, plastered or finished profiled by sawing, milling, planing or grinding, etc., unless this has already been done before the various layers are stretched onto the rigid base.
