Gerät zur Dickenmessung nichtmagnetisierbarer Schichten auf ferromagnetischen
Werkstoffen
Device for measuring the thickness of non-magnetizable layers on ferromagnetic layers
Materials
In the case of surface treatments or surface refinements, the thickness measurement of layers, especially the thickness measurement of protective layers on magnetizable materials, is an indispensable work and control process. The majority of all mechanical engineering products are made of steel-based materials, which in turn are mainly provided with a protective layer made of non-magnetizable materials.
This fact gave the impetus to the development of a series of measuring devices, the principle of which is based on the measurement of the attractive force of a magnet, which is dependent on the layer thickness.
For series and mass production, however, a simple, reliable and in terms of operation undemanding measuring device is lacking, which also allows an unlimited number of measurements, and the number of workers to carry out the control does not have to be increased.
A device for measuring the thickness of non-magnetizable layers on ferromagnetic materials, which has these properties, is the subject of the present patent. It is based on the measurement of the force which is necessary to tear off a magnet brought into contact with a corresponding workpiece.
The device shown as an embodiment of the invention in the accompanying drawings consists of a cylindrical housing 1 made of non-magnetizable material, which is completed by a transparent mouth piece 2 and has a window 3 with a line perpendicular to the body axis. A sleeve 4 with a double internal thread is rotatably placed on the housing 1. The ends of a pin 5 engage in said internal thread and can be moved in the axial direction in corresponding longitudinal slots which both the body 1 and a tube 11 have. The pin 5 is connected to the actual measuring system by means of a sliding body 6 and an adjustable screw, which consists of a spring 7, a pull rod 8 and a permanent magnet 9.
The pull rod 8a carries at its lower end a disc-shaped projection 8a serving as a stop. A scale 10 is connected to the pin 5. The body 1 is closed at the top by a closure piece 14. In the closure piece 14 there is a push button 12 with a spring 13 to which the end of the tube 11 is attached. A fixing ring 15 is also screwed onto the closure piece 14. This serves as an adjusting ring for clamping the sleeve 4 rotatably mounted on the housing 1.
In series production, where it is primarily checked whether the protective layer has a prescribed thickness, although the absolute value of the thickness of the layer mentioned is not of interest, the procedure is that according to a calibration curve by rotating the sleeve 4 on the scale 10, the prescribed Value is set. When the sleeve 4 rotates, the sliding body 6 is axially displaced by means of the pin 5 and the spring 7 is tensioned accordingly, since the extension 8a of the pull rod 8 rests against the lower end of the tube 11 and the pull rod cannot follow the movement of the sliding body 6 . By turning the fixing ring 15, the sleeve 4 is then pressed against the housing 1, whereby the setting of the device is fixed.
When the push button 12 is actuated, the lower end of the tube 11 presses on the extension 8a of the pull rod and thus brings the magnet 9 into contact with the test object. If the push button 12 is released, the spring 13 returns the tube 11 to its original position and thus releases the magnet 9. If the layer thickness corresponds to or exceeds the set value, that is to say if it corresponds to the test conditions set, the magnet 9 does not stick to the test object. If, on the other hand, the layer thickness is less than the previously set value, the magnet will stick to the test item. The position of the magnet 9 can be observed through the transparent mouthpiece 2. Several hundred measurements per hour can be carried out in this way.
In the case of individual production or when checking the layer thickness during the production process, where measurement of the absolute thickness value is required, the following procedure is followed: By rotating the sleeve 4, the magnet 9 is adjusted by means of the pin 5 and the sliding body 6. The device is placed with the mouthpiece 2 on the test object and the magnet 9 remains attached to it. Now, by rotating the sleeve 4 in the opposite direction by means of the pin 5 and the sliding body 6, the spring 7 is tensioned. The sleeve 4 is rotated until the magnet 9 tears away from the test object, which can be observed through the transparent mouthpiece 2. At the moment of tearing off, the rotation of the sleeve 4 is stopped, the display value on the scale 10 is read in window 3 and evaluated using the calibration diagram. This process is repeated with every measurement.
The device described significantly accelerates the control of layer thicknesses, which is particularly evident in series and mass production, as the measurement times are many times shorter than when using the previous devices, although the accuracy of the device described corresponds to the highest achievable for devices of this type.
By using this device, a significant increase in the efficiency of the control of work processes in surface treatments can be achieved.
