Baby safety device The present invention relates to a baby safety device, intended primarily for guarding or monitoring babies, that is to say that a baby, for example three months old, can be placed in the baby. device that acts as a support while retaining the baby in a desired position where it can be safely left. The device also provides the baby with a means of amusement and, on the other hand, allows him to do healthy physical exercises. The baby or child can do all the exercises he wants and only the ones he wants so that a strong child will exercise more than a calmer, weaker child.
The safety device comprises elastic suspension means and a seat arranged so as to receive a baby.
The seat is usually placed so that the child can reach the floor with his feet to move himself up and down as well as around the limits permitted by the elastic suspension means.
The safety device according to the invention is characterized in that the seat comprises a body band having front and dorsal sections and arranged to be fitted around the middle part of a baby, a fork flap connected at one end to the dorsal part of said body band, and fixing means connected to the other end of said flap for fixing this other end to the front section of said body band.
The drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the device forming the subject of the present invention.

Fig. 7 is a flat development of the seat ready to receive a baby.
Fig. 8 is a section on a larger scale taken along line 8-8 of FIG. 7.
Fig. 9 is a perspective view similar to FIG. 2 of the second embodiment.
The baby safety device shown in fig. 1 to 8 is generally designated 10 and carries a baby 11 as shown in FIG. 1. This device is intended to be suspended or supported by appropriate means from a ceiling, the top of a door frame or a support constructed for this purpose. In the example shown, the device is carried by a hook 13 fixed in a suitable support, not shown.
A longitudinally elastic support 16 is fixed by a connecting member such as a chain 17 to the hook 13. For this purpose, a chain is preferably used because it is resistant, flexible and various links of the latter can be connected to the hook for this purpose. adjust the height of the device above the floor or the ground. The support 16 is in the form of an elongated piece of an elastic material such as rubber, artificial rubber or the like as shown, but it could be formed by a coil spring.
A bar 20 is connected to the lower end of the support 16 and extends transversely thereto. This connection may have the form of a cord 21 extending from one end of the bar to the other and comprising a karabiner holder 22 fixed to this cord halfway between these ends, the karabiner holder being hooked to a loop 23 connected to the lower end of the support 16.
One end of the cord 21 forms a loop 26 which extends through a hole 27 formed in the bar 20 near the end 28 thereof, said loop extending through a ring 29 located below the bar. bar. A knot 30 formed in the cord above the bar 20 maintains the end of the cord in its correct position relative to the bar. Similarly, the opposite end of the cord 21 forms a loop 33 which extends through a hole in the opposite end 34 of the bar 20, this loop extending through a ring 35 below the bar. closed off.
A knot 36 formed above this end of the cord holds the ring and end of the cord in their correct position. The described safety device 10 comprises a seat portion 40 suspended from the bar 20 or rings 29 and 35 thereof. Several relatively long links are connected to the ends 28 and 34 of the bar by means of the rings 29 and 35. These links can have the form of cords as shown or they can be constituted by leather straps or can have any other. desired shape.
In this example, the links or cords 42 and 43 are connected to the ring 29 and the cords 45 and 46 are connected to the ring 35. The links 42 and 43 can be formed of a single length of cord passing through the loop. 48 of a carabiner holder 49 which, in turn, is hooked to the ring 29. The links 42, 43 can be tied at 50 immediately below the carabiner loop 48 to prevent any relative change in the hook. length of these links. Similarly, links 45 and 46 may be formed from a single bead extending through loop 52 of a carabiner holder 53 which is hooked to ring 35. Links 45, 46 can be tied in 54.
The seat portion 40 includes a fork flap 58 having an upper section 59 at the rear end 60 thereof, said upper section being incorporated into a relatively wide body band 62 having free ends 63 and 64. The flap 58 and its upper section 59 are preferably formed of a relatively non-stretchable material while the body strip 62 has at least one and preferably two elastic sections. The body band shown has resilient sections 66 and 67 on opposite sides of the fork flap section 59 and are attached thereto as shown in FIG. 7.
The remainder of the band 62 is of a substantially non-stretchable material in two end sections 69 and 70 which are respectively attached to the outer ends of the elastic sections 66 and 67 and these end sections are arranged so as to be covered. at least partially when the safety device is used.
Adjustable means are provided on the free ends 63, 64 of the body strip 62 for releasably fixing said ends together in a covered position. In this example, the end section 69 of the body band has a pair of snaps 73 vertically aligned and arranged to receive one of two pairs of additional snaps 74 or 75 on the section of the body band. end 70 to the opposite end of the body band. One could of course provide any number of pairs of press studs.
When the safety device is in use, the end section 69 overlaps the end section 70 and a pair of the snap buttons 74 or 75 engage with the pair of the snap buttons 73 to hold said sections firmly together.
The upper section 59 of the fork flap in the body strip 62 has spaced eyelets or hoops 78 and 79 near the top edge thereof. Similarly, the end sections 69 and 70 are provided with hoops 81, 82 respectively near the upper edges thereof. The hoops 81 and 82 are spaced apart from each other when the body band forms a loop. Links 42 and 43 hang down into the loop formed by the body band and extend outward through hoops 81 and 78.
These ties have tight knots in their ends on the outside of the body band which are too large to pass through the adjacent hoops. If desired, the knotted ends of links 42 and 43 may be covered by dice-shaped members 84 and 85 forming in part for ornamental purposes and providing an object of amusement for the child in the room. security device. Links 45 and 46 also hang downwardly in the loop formed by body band 62 and pass outwardly through hoops 82 and 79 respectively.
These ties are also tied at their outer ends and the knots can be covered by dice-shaped devices 86 and 87.
The flap 58 is relatively wide at its dorsal end 60 and preferably narrow from the top end 59 to the front end 90. Fastening means are provided to connect the front end 90 of the flap to the front end 90. the body band 62 when the latter is wrapped around the middle part of a baby and fixed in place by means of the snaps 73, 74 or 75. These fastening means have the form of a band 92 fixed in any way appropriate to the end 90 of said flap, for example by sewing and this strip, after having passed through a flattened ring 93 is folded back on itself and has a standard fixing member 95 fixed at its free end. This fastener comprises an elongated ring 96 through which the strip 92 extends.
As usual with this type of attachment, a handle 97 can be moved towards the band 92 to press a cheek or jaw 98 against it, said handle being moved away from the band to release the jaw therefrom. Thus, the band 92 is extensible and is retained at any length by means of the fastener 95.
Band 92 is releasably attached to body band 62 when an infant is seated in seat portion 40 of the safety device. This is achieved by means of a loop 100 which is attached at its end 101 to the ring 93. The loop 100 is preferably formed from a large piece of fabric which extends around the body band 62 without deformation. this one.
It is preferable to form the flap 58 in two overlapping pieces 105 and 106 which are sewn together at their edges as shown at 108 and 109. The ends of the elastic sections 66 and 67 of the body band extend between pieces 105 and 106 and are sewn to them by seams 108 and 109. A layer of resilient padding 112 is placed between parts 105 and 106 which separate from the seams. upper section 59 of the fork flap. This padding is formed from a soft material such as foam rubber or the like.
It should be impermeable to moisture and it is preferable to use elastic or impermeable material for the fork flap itself and for the other elements of the seat part 40.
When it is desired to place a baby in the safety device 10, the seat portion 40 thereof is laid out flat as shown in FIG. 7. At this time, the carabiner holders 49 and 53 are released from the rings 29 and 35. The baby is placed on the back, on the fork flap 58 and the buckle 100 as well as the band 92 are pulled up between the child's legs and over the stomach. The length of the band 92 is adjusted to fit the child and then the end section 70 of the body band 62 is passed through the loop 100.
The end section 69 is then brought up and the snaps 73 are attached to the snaps 74 or 75 depending on the size of the baby. This closes the band 62 tightly around the middle portion of the child while holding the crotch flap in place. Assuming bar 20 and other hangers are in the hanging position, carabiner holders 49 and 53 hook onto rings 29 and 35. The baby is now securely seated in the seat portion of the straddle device. flap 58 and seated on it. The body band provides support for the backbone.
The device is adjusted so that the seat portion 40 is placed just high enough above the expensive plane to allow the baby to touch that floor with its feet. This allows it to swing around the limits imposed by the elastic support 16, as well as to jump vertically up and down. So the baby's mother can leave him, knowing that he's completely protected. In other words, the device takes into account the fact that the baby can be abandoned by his mother who has to attend to other occupations. At the same time the child can have considerable pleasure in having fun with the device described while doing a healthy exercise. The baby is free to move his arms and legs and have fun on his own.
Note that the fork flap 58 is supported directly by the links 43 and 46. The front end of said flap is connected to the front portion of the body band 62 which, in turn, is fully supported by the links. 42 and 45. The loop 100 is placed between the links 42 and 45 and surrounds both the covered end sections 69 and 70 of said strip. This distributes the front load of the fork flap between links 42 and 45, and the relatively wide loop 100 helps to hold the means for securing the free ends of the body band. Thus, there is virtually no possibility of the seat portion 40 moving sideways during use.
Fig. 9 shows a second embodiment of the seat portion of the safety device 10. This seat portion 120 comprises a relatively wide body band 121 formed of a front panel 123 and a back panel 124 in one piece. substantially non-stretchable material, and side sections 126 and 127 made of an elastic material, the ends of said side sections being connected to the ends of the front and back panels in any suitable manner, in particular by stitching. A fork flap 130 is attached at its dorsal end 131 to the lower edge of the back panel 124 but otherwise it is similar to the flap 58 described above.
The front end 132 of the flap 130 is attached to an expandable band 134 which is the same as the band 92. The band 134 is. connected by an elongated ring 135 which, in turn, is connected to a fixing panel 137 adapted to be removably attached to the front panel 123 of the body band in any suitable manner including by means of press studs 139.
The front panel 123 of the body band is provided with spaced hoops 142 and 143 for receiving the ends of the links 42 and 45 while the back panel 124 has hoops 145 and 146 for receiving the ends of the links 43 and 46. A baby is placed in the seat part 120 in much the same way as the seat part 40 except that the body band 121 must be slipped over the child's middle part over his head or feet and His legs. The band 134 is adjusted to fit the baby, the attachment panel 137 is then moved up between the baby's legs and secured to the body panel 123 by means of the snaps 139.
The seat part 120 is not considered to be as good as the seat part 40. The former is a little more difficult to apply to an infant and the body band: cannot easily be adjusted to babies of. different dimensions other than by the adjustment which is permitted by the stretching of the band sections 126 and 127. However, the seat portion 120 is useful and provides a satisfactory safety device.
Here are some advantages of the described safety device 1. It includes a band which fits tightly around the middle part of a baby carried by the device so that the baby is firmly supported.
2. It is virtually impossible for the device to release while the baby is in it.
3. The baby supporting part can be developed flat so that the baby can be fixed in it in the same way as in a diaper so that this part can accommodate even a vigorous and restless baby.
4. The device is quickly and easily adjusted to any baby and can be enlarged as the child grows.
This safety device is more than a baby swing, it adjusts to the baby in such a way that it constitutes a complete and correct support keeping him perfectly safe.
