The present invention relates to an automatic speed regulator for a machine having a shaft rotated from a power source at an angular speed which must be kept substantially equal to a constant value of adjustment. ,
a detector sensitive to the value of the instantaneous angular speed and giving a signal if this speed becomes different from the setting value, this detector regulator controlling means acting on the power source in the direction which tends to reduce the speed towards the setting value.
Such a regulator finds its application in particular to hydraulic turbines with a view to maintaining the speed of the turbine substantially constant for driving an electric alternator in rotation under determined stable conditions.
It is by acting on the valve tif device of the turbine, that is to say on a device which makes it possible to modify the flow of water passing through the turbine, that the regulator fulfills its function of maintaining the speed. of the constant turbine.
Such regulators generally exhibit the phenomenon known as pumping, i.e. long period oscillations.
The present invention relates to an automatic speed regulator which is free from this drawback and which is characterized by a correcting device which is sensitive to the direction in which the angular speed of the shaft varies and which cooperates with the regulator so as to leave it to act normally as long as said means have not yet had the effect of reversing the direction of variation of the speed detected, and to modify, by opposing it, the action of said means as soon as said direction s 'reverse.
A particular embodiment of the object of the invention is hereinafter more fully described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which FIG. 1 is a diagram of an installation for regulating a hydraulic turbine equipped with this embodiment; fig. 2 is a graph illustrating the performance of the installation.
Reference will first be made to FIG. 1 which concerns the regulation of a hydraulic turbine 5 of which we see in 1 the regulating tachometer and in 6 the positive valve of the turbine have the control is connected to the tachometer 1.
The tachometer 1 is driven here by an electric motor 2 supplied by the output current 3 of the alternator 4 wedged on the turbine 5, this tachometer could be driven in any other known way.
The turbine valve 6 is operated by an oil cylinder 7, the piston 8 of which receives pressurized oil on its right or left face; according to the position in: height of the valve 9, linked to the tachometer 1 by the linkage 10.
In order to require only very low forces from the tachometer, there is provided by way of example, among several usable devices, a servomotor 11, with piston 15, the small surface of which directly receives the pressurized oil produced by the pump 12, tan say that the large surface, supplied by a calibrated orifice 13, has an evacuation orifice 14 whose flow rate is controlled by the tachometer.
Reference will be made to the graph in fig. 2, where the time has been plotted on the abscissa and the torques and speeds on the ordinate. If, at the instant t1, the resisting torque C, suddenly decreases from a to b, the speed increases, the tachometer index rises and discovers the orifice 14 (fig. 1), which releases the pressure on the upper face of the piston 15, which moves up and follows the tachometer with precision and energy,
lifting point A of the wheelhouse 10 and consequently lowering valve 9.
The pressurized oil is sent, via this lowered valve, to the right face of the piston 8. The piston 8 therefore moves to the left and gradually closes the valve device.
The motor torque C, n decreases along the line acew (fig. 2), the slope or closing speed of which is limited by the flow rate of the pump 12, to avoid water hammer.
At the instant t2, the motor torque Cm becomes equal to the resistive torque C i. (point c in fig. 2). The winnowing maneuver should be stopped there, but the speed N is too high; (point Y in fig. 2).
The tachometer therefore continues to control the closure of the valve, up to point W where the speed returns to its normal value N i. The valve maneuver therefore goes twice too far, the engine torque is too small by wwl, the tachometer will command opening, which results in long-period oscillations or pumping.
To damp these oscillations, a corrective action device detects the sign of acceleration and prohibits closing when speed decreases and opening when speed increases.
Thus (fig. 2), when the speed N decreases from Y, the device stops the valve closing at, Z (time t3), a little after the maximum speed difference. The pumping is therefore stopped, so to speak, when it is started, and the speed then slowly decreases to regain its rev value.
The device can be of any suitable type: inertia, measuring the speed of movement of the tachometer index, or even include a vanometer gal 16 measuring the inertia of the tachometer and actuating two relays 17 and 18. fig. 1, there is shown by way of example an apparatus detecting the direction of movement of the index of the tachometer 1 and more precisely of its servomotor 15.
The rod AF of the piston 15 drives, by friction, a jumper 19 attached at E to a linkage 20 and extended downwards by a cleat 21 having a very short stroke h between the stops 22 and 23.
As a variant, the friction drive of the rider 19 by the rod AF can be replaced by any other suitable means, in particular a dash-pot device, and preferably such a device comprising a cylinder linked to one of the devices. elements and a piston moving in this cylinder and linked to the other element,
two spring loaded valves opening in the opposite direction and intended to communicate the two chambers of the cylinder being provided in said piston.
This dash-pot device has the advantage of stable and reliable operation free of the dice, hazards that friction drive can present. The linkage 20 carries at D a cam 24 whose slope p is adjustable. This cam closes the nozzle 25 of a booster 26. In the example shown, the booster 26 comprises two toroidal membranes 27 and 28.
The pressurized oil arrives between the two membranes after passing through an inlet nozzle 29, the pressure acts on the entire surface of the large diaphragm, then escapes through the outlet nozzle 25 more or less blocked by the cam 24 .
If the speed N decreases from Y (fig. 2), the tachometer goes down, lowers F and E, so also D. The cam 24, which closes the orifice 25, increases the pressure which pushes the pressure to the right. membrane 27 and the rod 30 carrying the nozzle 25, until the balance j2 play is restored.
If the slope p is 10% for example, the horizontal displacement of 25-27-30 will be ten times the vertical displacement of D.
This rod 30 drives the spool 31 which. By its movement in the body 32 closes the duct 33. If the tachometer goes down slightly, the closing of the valve is made impossible, the opening remaining free. If, on the contrary, the tachometer rises by a few hundredths of a millimeter, the slide 31 is pushed to the left and prevents the opening of the valve, the closure remaining free.
The apparatus could be realized in many other ways by mechanical snap-fastenings, by dash-, locking valve on the valve control, by levers preventing the valve 9 from rising or falling from its position of. balance, etc ...
