<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Installation for the electric drive and braking of a lifting device The present invention relates to an installation for the electric drive and braking of a lifting device, comprising a DC machine, with separate excitation, of which the armature and the inductor are supplied by an alternating voltage source, each via a static converter comprising valves controlled by means of an independent control device capable of delivering positive voltage pulses. As is known, in installations of this type, the machine must be able to operate both as a motor and as a brake (generator) and that in both directions of rotation.
Consequently, the static converter connecting the machine armature to the AC power source must be able to operate both as a rectifier and as an inverter, so that it can transmit energy in both directions between the armature. and the source. When the machine operates as a motor, so when the energy transfer is from the source to the armature, it must operate as a rectifier and when the machine operates as a brake, the energy therefore being transmitted from the armature to the source , it must operate as an inverter. On the other hand, the static converter connecting the inductor to the AC power source must always operate as a rectifier.
However, it must be able to supply the inductor winding in both directions so that the machine can operate as a motor or as a brake in them. both directions. On the other hand, it is necessary that the power absorbed from a determined speed does not exceed a constant value, which requires that the excitation current be variable with the speed of the machine. The converter supplying the inductor must therefore be able to be controlled by the speed of the machine in such a way that the product of the latter by the flux generated remains constant.
Now, known installations, comprising static converters, use movable control members, such as contactors for example, to effect the changes from motor operation to brake operation, and the reversal of the direction of rotation. It goes without saying that the presence of these movable members, in particular of the contactors, constitutes a great drawback. On the other hand, the valves, used being of the ionic type, the known installations are of a large size and have a lack of robustness, so that their use for certain devices, such as, for example marine winches, n is not conceivable.
The object of the invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of. known installations, by providing an installation which does not include movable control and switching members. This installation is characterized by the fact that it comprises two DC voltage sources delivering, respectively a voltage proportional to the speed of the machine and a reference voltage corresponding to a desired speed, a first comparator providing an output voltage equal to the difference of these two voltages, and which is sent, on the one hand, to the device controlling the converter supplying the armature,
by means of a device providing an output voltage equal to the absolute value of the voltage supplied by said comparator and of a second comparator whose second input is connected to a device delivering a voltage proportional to the armature current, and on the other hand, to the device controlling the converter supplying the inductor, by means of a bistable rocking element, the latter control device being connected, by means of a function generator, to said voltage.

sion proportional to the speed of the machine,
and by the fact that the converter supplying the inductor is constituted by a group of double-way rectifiers, the valves of the two converters being. semiconductor valves.
The drawing. The appended shows an electrical diagram of an embodiment of the installation which is the subject of the invention, given by way of example, as well as a characteristic of its operation.
Fig. 1 shows the electrical diagram. Fig. 2 shows the characteristic.
The armature 1 of a direct current machine M, with separate excitation, is connected to a three-phase supply network A, by means of a static converter C. The latter consists of a two-way bridge, said Graetz bridge, comprising six controlled semiconductor valves 2 to 7. The control electrodes of the latter are connected to a control device 8 capable of delivering positive voltage pulses. An inductor 9, designed to filter the harmonics of the current, is inserted between the converter C and the armature 1.
The inductor of the machine comprises a winding 10, which is connected to two phases of the network A, by means of a group of rectifiers R and a transformer T with center tap. The group of rectifiers R is constituted by a double-way bridge comprising four controlled semiconductor valves 11 to 14. The control electrodes of the valves 11- to 14 are connected to a control device 15 capable of delivering voltage pulses. positive.
The shaft 16 of the machine drives a tachometric dynamo D intended to produce a direct voltage proportional to the speed of the machine and whose sign depends on the direction of rotation of the latter. This voltage is applied to one of the inputs of a comparator device 17 intended to compare it with a direct voltage corresponding to the desired speed, called the reference voltage. This comparison device 17 is produced, in this case, in the form of an algebraic summator.
This reference voltage is taken on a double potentiometer 18 connected to a source not shown, so that the middle position of its cursor 18Q corresponds to a zero reference voltage, the two extreme positions corresponding to the maximum, positive or negative according to the desired direction of rotation.
The output of comparator 17 is connected, on the one hand, via a device 22 providing an output signal equal to the absolute value of the signal leaving comparator 17, to one of the inputs of a second comparator 19, the output of which is connected to the control device 8 and, on the other hand, via a bistable rocking element 23, to the control device 15. The second input of the comparator 19 is connected to a device 24 delivering, when the intensity of the rectified current passing through the armature 1 exceeds a determined maximum value, a voltage equal to that collected at the terminals of a resistor 20 inserted between the armature 1 and the converter C.
The voltage of the dynamo D is also applied to the input of a function generator 21, the output of which is connected to the control device 15.
The installation described and shown, intended for driving a lifting device (not shown), operates as follows. It is assumed that the machine M is stationary and that the lifting device coupled to the shaft 16 must lift a load; the machine must therefore start as a motor. The operator acts on the cursor 18 "of the potentiometer 18 by moving it to the right for example. The comparator 17 transmits the positive direct voltage supplied by the potentiometer to each of the two control devices 15 and 8, through, respectively, of the bistable element 23 and of the devices 22 and 19.
The bistable element 23 is arranged so that the switching from one of its stable states to the other takes place on each change of sign of the voltage delivered by the comparator 17. Each of its two stable states corresponds to a channel. of the current in the rectifier R, therefore a direction of the current passing through the inductor winding 10, determined by one or the other of the two pairs of valves 11, 14 and 12, 13. The amplitude of the signal delivered by the element 23 therefore being invariable, the phase of the pulses delivered by device 15 will also be invariable. This phase is such that the current passing through the winding 10, that is to say the excitation current, is maximum.
The device 15 will deliver positive voltage pulses intended to ignite the two valves connected in the same direction, for example the valves 11 and 14, so as to achieve a single-way coupling, between the transformer T and the winding 10. This the latter will be traversed by a current whose meaning. corresponds to the direction of rotation and the sign of the desired torque of the machine. This current will have the maximum value expected from the start, so that it will generate the maximum flux.
The control device 8 will deliver positive voltage pulses intended to control the valves 2 to 7. The phase of these pulses will depend on the difference, in absolute value (at the output of the device 22), between the reference voltage and the voltage. of the dynamo D which is negative, therefore of the speed error. The gradual increase in the reference voltage will result in the gradual increase in the DC voltage across the terminals of armature 1.
When the rectified current has reached, during starting, the maximum expected value, the device 24 will deliver a voltage equal to that appearing at the terminals. of resistor 20, which will modify the voltage at the output of comparator 19 controlling the phase of the pulses delivered by control device 8 and this so that the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
rectified current passing through the armature does not exceed this maximum value.
The function generator 21 is intended to act on the phase of the pulses delivered by the control device 15, therefore on the excitation current passing through the winding 10, and this as a function of the absolute value of the voltage of the dynamo D, i.e. according to the speed of the machine. It is arranged in such a way that its influence on the excitation current is manifested from a determined speed, for example from the speed o) 1 (see fig. 2), and this so that the product of the speed by the generated flux remains constant.
Thus from the neck speed, the machine will absorb a constant power and will develop a torque whose product by the speed will remain constant. Fig. 2 shows the torque-speed characteristic.
The reduction in the speed of the machine, and therefore braking, is obtained by acting on the potentiometer 18 so as to decrease the reference voltage, therefore by moving the cursor 18d from right to left. The reference voltage will therefore become smaller than the voltage of the dynamo D, so that their difference detected by the comparator 17 will change sign. This will result in the tilting of the bistable element 23 in its other stable state, which will cause the extinction of the valves 11 and 14 and the ignition of the valves 12 and 13 of the rectifier R, therefore the reversal of the direction. of the excitation current.
The same maneuver causes a decrease in the absolute value of the voltage at the output of comparator 17 and therefore of the absolute value of the output voltage of the device 22. If the displacement of the cursor 18 "is large, this decrease in the output voltage of device 22 is followed by an immediate increase as the voltage of dynamo D has become much greater than the reference voltage determined by the position of the cursor. However, the value of the voltage at the output of device 24 becomes then such that it brings the voltage at the output of comparator 19 to a value corresponding to the operation of the converter as an inverter.
The machine will therefore operate as a generator (brake) and this until its speed reaches the value imposed by the reference voltage. At this moment there will be the change of the sign of the voltage corresponding to the speed error (the reference voltage being greater than the voltage of the dynamo) which will cause the reversal of the direction of the excitation current and the switching. converter C from inverter to rectifier. The machine will again operate as a motor at the speed imposed by potentiometer 18. It is obvious that if the slider 18 "has been brought back to the position corresponding to the zero reference voltage (position on the drawing), the machine would have braked to a stop.
For the descent, the operator will act on the 18 "cursor so as to move it from right to left from its middle position shown on the drawing. The reference voltage will therefore be negative throughout the descent and the voltage of the positive dynamo On starting, the reference voltage, in absolute value, being greater than that of the dynamo, the comparator 17 delivers a negative voltage.
The excitation current is therefore reversed with respect to start-up to upward, so that the machine rotates in the opposite direction (downward). After the acceleration period, the machine must operate as a brake at the speed imposed by the reference voltage. The voltage of the dynamo becoming greater than that of reference, the voltage at the output of comparator 17 will therefore be positive. The excitation current changes direction and the converter C switches from rectifier to inverter. The machine then operates as a generator and the speed stabilizes at the desired value. The slowing down and stopping are obtained by moving the cursor 18 ,, to the right to the middle position.
As can be seen from the foregoing, the installation described only comprises static control members which are of safe operation and easy to maintain. The use of controlled semiconductor valves makes it possible to significantly reduce its size. Its use is very easy; it is reduced, in fact, to the simple operation of the cursor of a potentiometer.
It also has the advantage of being able to develop an acceleration and braking torque on ascent and descent, which saves time in work cycles. In addition, the speed is continuously adjustable without dissipation of energy, both in motor and brake, throughout the operating range.
It should be noted that the various devices (8, 15, 1.7, 19, 21-24) included in the installation described can be of any of the known types, so that they have not been described in detail. The rectifier group R could be arranged in another way, in order to achieve two double-channel couplings.
