Method for producing an internal thread and an internal thread produced therefrom The present invention relates to a method for producing an internal thread and an internal thread produced therefrom. The production of an internal thread is an expensive matter in the conventional way. An internal thread that is to be cut into a pipe over 300 millimeters in length places high demands on the mechanical equipment.
The method according to the invention consists in that a profile wire is wound helically onto a mandrel and then fitted into a bore by the mandrel, the profile of the wire being designed in such a way that the one wire turn rests on the previous turn, so that a continuous Internal thread is formed.
The method according to the invention is explained with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention. It shows: FIG. 1 a cross section through a profile wire, FIG. 2 a longitudinal section through a finished internal thread and FIG. 3, on a larger scale, a detail of the internal thread.
The cross-section of the profile wire 1 shows two mutually offset rectangles a and b. The wire is now wound onto a mandrel in a helical manner that part of the larger rectangle b is on the protruding part of the smaller rectangle a comes to rest. The wire wound in this way shows a smooth cylindrical wall on the outside, the diameter of which corresponds to the inner diameter of the cylinder 2 to be provided with an internal thread. The mandrel with the wound wire is pushed into the cylinder 2 and the mandrel is withdrawn empty. The smaller rectangle a, which partly covers the larger rectangle b, forms the thread rib.
The longest side of the larger rectangle b corresponds to the pitch of the thread to be fabricated. The rectangle b is the load-bearing element that has to take the load acting on the internal thread. In the example shown, the thread is rectangular, but the profile of the wire can be selected so that a trapezoidal, acute angle or other known thread shape is obtained.
The overlap of the profile wires must be so large that even with a slight axial displacement that is difficult to avoid, the profile wire will not be unhooked.
The present type of thread production is far more economical and can also withstand a much higher load, since drawn material has a greater strength than cut thread. Another advantage arises from the fact that with the evenly round edges and the absolutely smooth surface of the drawn profile, cracking is very low.
