<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Spectacle branch equipped with an electroacoustic device The present invention relates to a spectacle branch equipped with an electroacoustic device.
This branch is characterized in that it comprises, extending over part of its length, an elongated housing having a rear part intended to rest on the user's ear and an anterior part comprising at least one open chamber of the outer side opposite the inner side intended to press against the side of the user's head, the electroacoustic device being housed in.
the housing, part of its electrical circuit being disposed in said chamber, an elongated plate covering said open outer side of said chamber and having a front end extending beyond the end of the housing and forming part of the branch intended to be fixed to the front part of the frame of the glasses and a removable device fixing the plate to the case.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment.
Fig. 1 is a plan view from above and partially in section of a pair of spectacles comprising branches according to this embodiment; fig. 2 is a side view of the pair of glasses along the plane indicated at 2-2 in FIG. 1; fig. 3 is a detailed section taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 2; fig. 4 is a detailed section taken on line 4-4 of FIG. 2, and fig. 5 is a detailed section taken on line 5-5 of FIG. 2.
In the glasses shown in the drawing, the branches are indicated generally at 10, and are substantially identical to each other except that they are arranged for the right and left sides of a person's head to supporting the frame 11. The face portion of the frame may have any suitable shape.
Each of the branches 10 includes an elongated housing 12 extending over a portion of its length. This housing 12 has an internal chamber 13 which can be divided into two or more compartments. Housing 12 has a closed inner side 14 which is impervious to moisture and which contacts the side of the person's head in most cases. The housing 12 also has upper and lower sides, 15 and 16 respectively, which are also impervious to moisture.
The housing, in the form shown, is integrally molded from a substantially rigid plastic material. The posterior end 16 of this housing 12 has a relatively thin portion 17, so as to pass easily over the top of the ear and generally follow the curvature of the person's head.
The housing 12 has an external side open over its entire width which allows access to the chamber 13. The latter contains part of the elements of an amplifier device for the deaf. These elements may include a loudspeaker 18 and the circuit of a signal amplifier transistor 19, both of which are susceptible to damage by moisture as it enters chamber 13. At the rear end 16 of the housing 12, another internal chamber is formed which can contain a battery 20 and a microphone 21.
The chamber which contains the battery 20 and a microphone 21 can open inwards and be normally closed by a cover plate 22.
An elongated plate 23 covers the open outer side of the housing 12 to completely close the chamber 13. It is seen that this plate 23 widens.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
rearwardly to follow the general shape of the housing 12. The longitudinal and end edges of the plate 23 rest on shoulder surfaces 24 which are formed in the walls of the housing. It can be seen that spaces 25 can be left between the plate 23 and the ribs or partitions 26 which divide the chamber 13 into various compartments so as to allow the conductors 27 to pass from one compartment to the other.
Devices are provided for removably securing the plate 23 to the outer side of the housing 12, and in the form shown these devices comprise a pair of threaded studs 28 and 29 which are respectively fixed, for example by welding, to the front parts. and posterior of the plate 23. A threaded nut 30 having a flared and slotted head 31 is disposed in an orifice 32 'formed in the anterior end 12a of the housing which is disposed forward from the end of the chamber 13 and is screwed onto stud 29.
A similar nut 32 is disposed in a hole 33 on the inner side of the housing 12 in the vicinity of the rear part of the chamber 13, and is screwed onto the stud 28 to secure the rear part of the cover plate 23.
It will be noted in particular that the front end 23a of the plate extends forwards beyond the end 12a of the housing 12 that it is very thin and shaped so as to present the appearance of the branch d 'a pair of classic glasses. This front end 23a is connected in the usual way to a hinge 34 which is also connected to the face part 11 of the frame in a conventional way.
Each branch 10, comprising a complete deaf amplifier, can be easily fitted to a person's head. A housing 12, containing a complete deaf amplifier, can be fitted to any of a number of plates 23 having different lengths, so that part 17 of the housing can be properly disposed with respect to the mount. that the thin part 22 of the case comes to fit comfortably on the ear when the frame is well placed on the nose of the person who uses the glasses.
The person who fits the glasses to the wearer's head can have a supply of cover plates 23 of various lengths available, so that the correct length can be chosen and then quickly applied to the housing 12 and then fixed. at the joint 34.
When the amplifier contained in housing 12 is to be serviced, the entire housing can be easily removed from plate 23 by simply removing nuts 30 and 32. If the amplifier is to be kept in the workshop or sent to the factory, one can quickly apply another amplifier or box 12 to the plate 23 and rent it to the owner of the glasses so that he does not have to go without an amplifier, and so. that the set loaned to it can be adjusted as well as its own set which has been removed.
It is obvious that the cover plate 23 can have decorations or ornaments engraved or applied in some other way. Since the housing 12 terminates at 12a well behind the anterior end of the plate 23, the entire housing 12 can be discreetly concealed, and in fact the housing 12 is almost completely concealed if the glasses are worn by. a woman. The importance of preventing perspiration from entering chamber 13. This is essential when the amplifiers are mounted in the legs so that the inner chamber can be accessed.
Access is therefore provided on the outer side of the housing, and the fully closed inner side is impermeable to moisture, so that the amplifier connections are not damaged by normal sweating of a person's head. .
This novel spectacle temple construction prevents moisture from sweat from entering the compartment in which the amplifier's electrical circuit is contained, and also allows easy adjustment of the temple to the correct size for a person. particular, and also the possibility of an easy exchange of amplifiers, without it being necessary to readjust the branch.
