Farbstoffe.
Man mahlt z.

Process for the production of pigments of the dioxazine series
The present invention relates to a process for the production of new pigments of the dioxazine series and the use of these new dyes for pigments of organic non-textile materials.
Water-insoluble triphendioxazine dyes are already known which have been substituted in the benzoid nuclei by acylated amino groups and have also been proposed as pigment dyes. Such compounds are prepared by condensing chloranil with those aminoaryl compounds which, in addition to a primary amino group, also contain at least one acylated or acylatable amino group as a substituent, whereupon the condensation product is subjected to an oxazine ring-forming and optionally acylating treatment. The only known triphendioxazine dyes of this type are those which are not substituted in the positions ortho to the acylamino groups or contain only alkyl groups as substituents. With such bis-acylaminotriphendioxazine dyes pigmented polymeric thermoplastic substances, e.g. B.
Polyvinyl chloride, often have insufficient fastness to migration.
This shows up e.g. B. with closer contact of the colored foils with uncolored paint and plastic layers by coloring the uncolored material.
It has now been found that dioxazine dyes which are particularly resistant to migration and varnish and which are very lightfast are obtained if chloranil is obtained with amines of the formula which are free from sulfonic acid groups and carboxylic acid groups
EMI1.1
in which X is an acylamino group, the acyl radical of which is derived from a carboxylic acid, and Y is hydrogen or OR2, and Rt and R2 are each an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl group, condenses and the condensation products are simultaneously or subsequently subjected to oxazine ring-forming conditions.
The dioxazine dyes produced by this process correspond to the formula
EMI1.2
As can be seen from what has already been said, the new dyes have a noticeably better fastness to migration and overcoating than the known bis-acylaminotriphendioxazine pigments.
Particularly suitable carboxylic acid residues of the acylamino groups are the residues of aliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic monocarboxylic acids. However, acylamino groups derived from dicarboxylic acids can also be present, but then those in which the nitrogen atom is connected in a ring to two carbonyl groups, such as e.g. B. in the phthaloyl or the succinylamino groups. In the primary amine of the formula I, in the substituent Y = -OR, the symbol R2 denotes, for example, a low molecular weight alkyl group, in particular a methyl group.

Such arylamines can be z. B. from 2-aminohydroquinone ethers by acylating, nitrating and reducing or from 2-nitro-5-aminohydroquinone ethers by acylating and reducing.
Some of the connections are already known
Intermediate products of the dye industry.
Valuable dyes are obtained above all with those arylamines of the formula 1 in which the acyl amino group is an optionally substituted benzoylamino group. Among these, in terms of the fastness to migration of the dyes produced therefrom, the best results are achieved with those benzoylamino compounds which are in the

Both in the condensation of chloranil with the arylamines of the formula I and in the
Working methods which can be used for dioxazine ring closure are known per se. The chloranil condensation is preferably carried out in an inert organic solvent, in the presence of an acid-binding agent and at room temperature or with weak heating. They are carried out, for example, in dilute ethyl alcohol when boiling, sodium acetate being used as the acid-binding agent. The 2,5-di- (p-acylamine phenylamino) -3, o-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinones obtained are then subjected to an oxazine ring-forming treatment, which generally takes place at elevated temperature.
For this purpose, the condensation products are brought to temperatures of 130 to 250, preferably inert, high-boiling organic solvents. To accelerate the ring closure reaction, it is advantageous to add acids or acid-splitting compounds. If the arylamides used for the condensation with chloranil are those which do not contain any substituents in the para position to the ether group present according to the definition, i.e. those for which the symbol Y in formula (I) denotes a hydrogen atom, an oxidizing agent is also added to the reaction mixture, unless either the solvent or the acid or the acid-releasing compound can act as such.
The ring closure of the 2,5-di- (p-acylaminophenyl amino) -3, 6-dichloro-1,4-benzoquinones to the corresponding dioxazine compounds is carried out, for example, in dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene, nitrobenzene, naphthalene or chloronaphthalene at temperatures of 150-2000 and in the presence of carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid halides of the benzene series, e.g. B. benzene or toluene sulfochloride made.
Instead of the carboxylic and sulfonic acid halides, as additives promoting oxazine ring formation, w-haloalkyl compounds, such as. B.
Use benzotrichloride or metal chlorides such as aluminum chloride, iron chloride or zinc chloride.
A simplification of the two-stage production process consists in carrying out the chloranil condensation in a relatively high-boiling, inert organic solvent and subjecting the reaction mixture to oxazine ring-forming conditions without isolating the quinone intermediate.
It is also possible to carry out chloranil condensation and oxazine ring closure in one and the same solvent at an elevated temperature, which reduces the process to a single stage.
The new dioxazine pigments can be isolated from the reaction mixture in the customary manner by diluting or concentrating the reaction agent. In many cases, the dyes crystallize out almost completely when the reaction mixture cools. They can be further purified by filtering and washing the precipitate with acids, bases or organic solvents.
They are obtained in the form of pure deep-colored crystals by crystallization from high-boiling chlorinated and / or nitrated hydrocarbons.
The new pigment dyes are advantageously brought into a finely dispersed form for industrial use. For this purpose you will e.g. B. a treatment by means of acids, for example sulfuric acid, aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids or sulfonic acids, subjected. The fine division can, however, also take place by a grinding process in which inorganic or organic salts which can be removed again by solvents are used as grinding aids and, if necessary, neutral, acidic or basic compounds are used as additional grinding aids. Solid or liquid organic solvents can be used as the latter. One grinds z.
B. isolated from the reaction mixture and dried pigment dyes with dehydrated calcium chloride or with sodium sulfate or sodium chloride in the presence of aliphatic or aromatic, optionally chlorinated and / or nitrated hydrocarbons such as cyclohexane, benzene, toluene, naphthalene, mono-, die or trichlorobenzene, or tetrachloroethane Nitrobenzene. After the milling process, milling media and milling auxiliaries are removed, for example with solvents, or the organic auxiliaries, optionally also by distillation. This gives finely dispersed pigments which, compared to the untreated ones, also have a softer texture and are stronger in color.
The pigment dyes prepared according to the invention can be used for pigmenting varnishes, rubber, paints and plastics.
The pure blue, bluish red to deep purple colors are solvent and oil-poor. The good to very good migration fastness as well as overpainting and light fastness have already been pointed out earlier. The new dyes are also suitable for dyeing paper and viscose or cellulose ester material in bulk, resin molding compounds and thermoplastic compounds. They can also be used in pigment printing pastes for paper and in paints. They can also be used to shade phthalocyanine pigment.
Mixtures with these result in very desirable lightfast, reddish-tinged blue shades.
In the following examples, unless otherwise noted, the parts are parts by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius. Parts by weight relate to parts by volume as g to cm3.
Example I.
42 parts of 1-amino-2,5-dimethoxy-4-acetylamino-benzene (melting point 145-146 "), 24.6 parts of chloranil and 27.2 parts of crystalline sodium acetate are added to 500 parts of alcohol for 10 hours with stirring and The resulting precipitate is filtered off with suction, washed with alcohol and water and dried. 52 parts of a deeply colored product are obtained. To convert this primary condensation product into the dioxazine compound, it is dissolved in 400 parts of o-dichlorobenzene with 75 parts of benzoyl chloride for 6 hours Heated in 1750. It is then suction filtered at 100 "and washed with o-dichlorobenzene, alcohol and acetone.
42 parts of a brown-violet product are obtained which, after finely dispersed by grinding with sodium sulfate in the presence of small amounts of carbon tetrachloride, gives a deep violet pigment.

When incorporated into stoving enamels, it has excellent over-lacquer fastness and, in polyvinyl chloride, very good migration fastness. By grinding 1 part of this dioxazine pigment with 1 part of copper phthalocyanine in the presence of 6 parts of dehydrated calcium chloride in a ball mill and after dissolving the salt, a dye mixture with a valuable deep blue shade of very good fastness properties is obtained.
In the above process, 48 parts are used instead of 1-amino-2,5-dimethoxy-4-acetylamino-benzo

Sodium acetate is refluxed in 500 parts of alcohol and 50 parts of water for 8 hours. The precipitate is filtered off while hot, washed with alcohol and water and dried. 60 parts of a powder are obtained. To convert this condensation product into the dioxazine compound, it is heated in 400 parts of nitrobenzene with 30 parts of benzenesulfonyl chloride for 3 hours at 175 °. At 100O the crystalline precipitate is filtered off and washed with alcohol and acetone.
55 parts of a black-violet powder are isolated, with which, after finely dispersing, polyvinyl chloride films or stoving enamels can be pigmented in pure violet shades with very good migration or overcoating fastness properties.
