Process for the production of film tubes made of thermoplastic material and an extruder system with calibration cylinder for carrying out the process
The patent relates to a method for producing film tubes from thermoplastic material. In this process, the hot-plastic hose extruded from the annular gap nozzle of an extruder, to which gas is supplied with excess pressure, is continuously passed through a calibration cylinder and simultaneously wetted with a cooling liquid.
In the method according to the invention, the hose is passed vertically from bottom to top and the cooling liquid from top to bottom through the calibration cylinder.
The patent also relates to an extruder system for carrying out the method according to the invention.
This system has a vertically upwardly directed annular gap nozzle with a channel for the gas supply and a calibration cylinder arranged coaxially to the nozzle to limit the inflation of the extracted hose under the effect of the supplied gas.
In the system according to the invention, the calibration cylinder is lined on the inside with a tubular wick, the upper and lower ends of which protrude into an annular vessel. The ring vessel, into which the upper end of the wick protrudes, serves to receive the cooling liquid to be supplied to the wick and the ring vessel, into which the lower end of the wick protrudes, to receive the cooling liquid which has flowed through the wick.
An exemplary embodiment of the extruder system according to the invention is shown in the drawing. The single FIGURE shows a partial sectional view of an extruder for producing film tubes made of thermoplastic material. In connection with this, the method according to the invention is also explained, for example.
The extruder system shown contains a screw press 1 and a heated injection head with a vertically upwardly directed annular gap nozzle 2, through which a compressed air supply line 3 passes axially. A calibration cylinder 6 is arranged above the spray head coaxially to the nozzle 2 and above it a pair of squeeze rollers 5, 5a. Each of these rollers 5, 5a is provided with a rubber jacket 11, 11a.
A hose 4 is continuously extruded from the annular gap nozzle 2, which under the action of the compressed air supplied through the line 3 expands to form a thin-walled film hose 4 a, the diameter d of which is limited by the calibration cylinder 6. The hose 4a is pulled upward out of the calibration cylinder by means of the rollers 5, 5a and compressed flat between these rollers. The tube part flattened between the rollers 5, 5a forms an airtight seal for the inflated part 4a of the film tube.
A cooling liquid - in practice usually an aqueous solution - is passed over the inner wall of the calibration cylinder 6 in countercurrent to the upward movement of the film tube 4, 4a. Effective cooling and even distribution of the cooling liquid over the inner wall of the cylinder 6 is achieved in that the cylinder 6 consists of metal wire fabric and is lined on the inside with a tubular wick 7, the upper end of which extends over the edge of the cylinder 6 downwards bends and dips into the cooling liquid, which is contained in a ring vessel 8. At the bottom the cylinder 6 is widened conically, the lower edge of the conical widening 6a enclosing the nozzle.
The lower end of the wick 7 projects beyond this edge and dips into an annular vessel 9 which receives the part of the cooling liquid which has not evaporated and which has not been carried along by the hose 4a and which has flowed out of the annular vessel 8 through the wick 7. This part of the cooling liquid flows off through a pipe 10.
Since the conical enlargement 6a prevents the film tube 4 emerging from the nozzle 2 from cooling down significantly, it remains thermoplastic until it enters the calibration cylinder 6, 7 and is therefore formed in this cylinder 6, 7 precisely to the prescribed caliber d.
If a cooling liquid is used whose boiling point is between the softening temperature of the thermoplastic material and the temperature of the hose 4a in the lower part of the calibration cylinder 6, the initially still hot, plastic film hose 4a slides in the lower part of the calibration cylinder 6, 7 on a vapor layer and then further above, after cooling and hardening, on a skin of liquid so that the hose can neither stick nor be mechanically damaged.
In the simplest case, water can be used as the cooling liquid; B. dyes or small amounts of a water-soluble stearic acid ester can be added to produce an antistatic coating. However, other cooling liquids can also be used whose boiling point is to be optimally adapted to the thermal behavior of the thermoplastic material being processed. Valuable solvents can be recovered in the usual way by evaporation and condensation.
A knitted tube is expediently used as the wick 7. The wick can, however, also consist of a fabric or a felt, and the cooling liquid can also be supplied to it continuously by continuous pouring or spraying.
