Process for the preparation of heterocyclic vat dyes The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of new heterocyclic dyes
EMI0001.0006
in which one Y for 2 hydrogen atoms, the other Y for a member of the group
EMI0001.0007
and R stands for a ring-bonded radical of a linkable polycyclic ketone.
The process is characterized in that a polycyclic ketone which is essentially halogen-substituted can be linked to a dye intermediate of the formula
EMI0001.0021
in which one Y for 2 hydrogen atoms and the other Y for a member of the group
EMI0001.0022
is, in the presence of an alkaline acid binding agent and a copper catalyst. These intermediate dye products and processes for their preparation are known.
As polycyclic ketones which can be linked and which can be halogenated, for example chlorinated or brominated, in a known manner to form the abovementioned reactants, the following may be mentioned:
Dibenzopyrenquinone, anthranthrone, pyranthrone, dibenzanthrone, isodibenzanthrone, and similar linkable polycyclic ketones, as are known to the person skilled in the art. The core brominated and chlorinated derivatives of these viable polycyclic ketones and processes for their preparation are also well known.
The reaction is expediently carried out in the presence of an inert organic diluent, for example an aromatic hydrocarbon or halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon. Examples of such diluents include: nitrobenzene, chlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene, naphthalene, etc.
As an alkaline acid-binding agent, for. B. sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, etc. can be used. The copper catalyst can e.g. B. made of copper in any form, copper oxide, cuprous chloride, cupric acetate, etc. consist.
The temperature at which the reaction is to be carried out depends on the particular components present in the reaction mixture and on the diluent used. In general, it is preferred to work at higher temperatures,

The product dyes cotton from an alkaline hydrosulphite vat in strong black-brown tones that are wash, chlorine and lightfast.
Example 2 A batch of 30 parts by volume of nitrobenzene, 1.2 parts by weight of dibromodibenzopyrenquinone, 1.6 parts by weight of the compound of the structure prepared in a known manner, for example in the range from about 100-250 C. The optimum temperature can be used in individual cases easily determined by the specialist.
It can be seen that the molar proportions of the reaction participants to be used depend on the number of halogen atoms in the linkable polycyclic ketone and on the number of free amino groups in the dye intermediate.
In the following examples, unless otherwise indicated, parts mean parts by weight and the ratio of parts by weight to parts by volume means that of g to cm3.
