A constant voltage regulation device for a rectified current The present invention relates to a constant voltage regulation device for a rectified current, of very simple construction, which , however, provides a rectified voltage which is very substantially constant and stable.
According to the invention, the regulation device is characterized in that the alternating supply voltage passes through at least a first winding of a transducer, the rectified voltage at least a second self-excitation winding of this transducer. , the control of said transducer being obtained by at least a third winding of low resistance, mounted subtractively with respect to the second, the series connection of this winding with a constant reference voltage being arranged in parallel on the output terminals of the rectified current .
It will be shown, in the remainder of the report, that, thus, beyond the parallel connection of the voltage reference element and of the control winding, the voltage is permanently , equal to that of this reference element.
In order to avoid abrupt variations, in the event of a change in the current supplied, the voltage thus obtained can be made uniform by a high capacitor mounted in parallel, this capacitor being able to be constituted by an accumulator battery mounted as a buffer.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows the schematic of this form of execution.
Fig. 2 is a diagram showing the variations of the rectified current as a function of the control current.
In the diagram shown in fig. 1, an alternative source, for example the mains, connected to terminals 1, supplies the rectifier bridge 3 via a transformer 2.
This alternating current passes through the winding 4a of a transducer 4. The rectified current leaving the terminals of the rectifier passes through the winding 4b of the transducer and brings the magnetic circuit of the latter to saturation.
Beyond the winding 4b and in parallel on the output of the rectifier, a element element 5 is connected in series providing a constant direct voltage and the winding of control 4c of the transducer which is wound, in the subtractive direction, with respect to to the winding 4b, on the magnetic circuit thereof.
Consequently, as shown by the curve 6 of in fig. 2, when the control current Ic is very small, the transducer is magnetically saturated, and the impedance of the winding 4a is small, so that the IR output of the rectifier is maximum, while a higher current of command decreases the saturation of the transducer and, consequently, increases the choke, which reduces the flow of the rectified current.
A a flow rate 1 of the rectifier thus corresponds to a control current i, in the winding 4c and vice versa. The corresponding voltage U, which can be collected downstream of the assembly, for example at terminals 7, 8, is obviously equal to to the voltage of the connection in series of reelement 5 and winding 4c, i.e. by calling UK the voltage of this element and r the resistance of the winding 4c, U = UK +r- i, By construction, r can be chosen very small (some tenths of an ohm).
In addition, if the amperes-turns of winding 4b are chosen so as to bring the transducer to the vicinity of the saturation state, to desaturate this transducer, the current can be very. low (of the order of a few tens of mA, for example).
Under these conditions, the term r - i is practically negligible in front of UK and the rectifier delivers with a voltage substantially equal to to the UK voltage of element 5. If this voltage is constant, the voltage delivered is itself constant within the limits between il and i2 of the setting current which correspond to the limits Il and 12 of the set current .
The 5 element may be a neon discharge tube, or one or more semiconductor diodes, connected in series, which are biased in the series connection of the winding 4c and these reference elements. Preferably, use will be made of a low-capacity sealed alkaline accumulator battery which, permanently passing through the current, is thus constantly in a state of over-charge and consequently supplies the desired constant voltage.
It is known that such sealed alkaline accumulator batteries consist of electrodes of sintered metal unalterable in the electrolyte, tightly applied against a thin and permeable separator. Such batteries are described, for example, in Swiss Patent No. 300153.
None of these reference voltage elements, however, provide a voltage that is strictly independent of the current flowing through them. Due to their internal resistance, all of these elements slope upward with the intensity of the current. However, within the regulation limits, for example to compensate for variations in the mains deviating by 10% from the nominal voltage,
such reference voltages can provide constant voltage regulation within a few percent.
In order to prevent sudden variations in flow rate & use from leading to excessively high instantaneous variations in operating voltage, it is possible to connect between terminals 7 and 8 </ B > a high capacity 10. It is also possible, in the case where a permanent use of this voltage is desired even in the event of failure of the AC source, connect to terminals 7 and 8 in buffer a battery of accumulators 11 which is thus charged under constant voltage.
It is quite obvious elsewhere that the charging voltage of the battery must be at least equal to its nominal voltage, it is advisable (Tuse, when the constant reference voltage is also a battery, an equal number of cells for the two batteries if they are of the same nature. In this case, the voltage of the battery 5 in a state of permanent overload being higher than the voltage of the battery 11, as long as the latter has not reached its full charge, a very satisfactory charge regulation is obtained, given that the battery charging It practically stops when the state of charge is reached.
The device according to the invention which does not require monitoring is particularly suitable for supplying telephone installations.
It will also be noted that the alternating source could be polyphase, the rectifier having, in this case, an appropriate assembly ; the transducer then comprises a number of windings 4a equal to to that of the phases and a corresponding number d7en.- bearings 4b and 4c.
