Conveyor allowing lateral unloading of transported objects
Mechanical handling installations are already known in which the objects to be transported are in the form of objects with a defined contour, and are conveyed from one point to another by means of carriers with supporting elements.
These devices are often constituted by a chain provided with rollers, running along raceways which simultaneously guide the rollers, and support the links of the chain, to which the supporting elements are connected, the side edges of which are advantageously raised. The set of supporting elements, arranged one after the other, thus constitutes a sort of gutter into which the objects to be transported are poured.
Unloading stations are provided at desired locations along the carrier's route.
The present invention relates to a conveyor allowing the lateral unloading of the transported objects. This transporter comprises a series of carrying elements each mounted on a support.
I1 is characterized in that all the supports are driven by a traction means, and that each carrying element is connected to its support by means of two articulations whose axes are parallel to the direction of travel of the conveyor, and arranged to allow each carrier element to tilt laterally and individually either on one side or the other, under the action of thrust members intervening at the unloading point.
In a particular embodiment of the transporter, one of the articulation pins is integral with the carrier element and the other with the link of a chain and these two pins are connected by a connecting rod.
In another particular embodiment, the two axes are integral with a pallet and rest in semi-cylindrical housings open upwards and carried by a link. A return spring can act to maintain, or to return the pins in their housing.
Still in a particular embodiment, the thrust members can be levers or screw jacks, hydraulic or pneumatic, arranged along the conveyor and facing the places provided for unloading; these devices can act directly or by means of ramps on the bearing pieces or rollers carried by the pallets.
The above transporter can usefully be supplemented by a device making it possible to control from the loading point the entry into action of the jack to be implemented at the unloading link. This control can be carried out in various ways known by electro-valves; it can advantageously be controlled by means of a distributor with contacts whose speed of rotation is linked to that of the conveyor, which makes it possible to make each contact correspond to a place of unloading.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment and a variant of the conveyor which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of said embodiment of the pallet conveyor.
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken through the middle of a pallet and showing an embodiment of the double articulation of a pallet on a link of the chain.
Fig. 3 relates to a variant of this joint.
Fig. 4 shows, on an enlarged scale, a detail of FIG. 3.
Referring to fig. 1 showing said embodiment of the conveyor, we see at 1 a succession of pallets constituting load-bearing elements, each of them being connected to a link 2 alternately on the field and on the flat of a chain comprising carrying rollers 3 and Guide rollers 4. These rollers are arranged in a raceway formed by sections 5 (see fig. 2 and 3).
The pallets 1 are shaped to include a flat bottom 1a and two raised and inclined edges 1b, 1c, all the pallets arranged one after the other constituting a kind of gutter in which the packages or objects are deposited. to carry.
On the bottom of each pallet (FIG. 2) is fixed an articulation pin 6 connected by a connecting rod 7 to a second articulation pin 8 fixed to a support 9 itself integral with a link 2 of the chain.
The two axes 6 and 8 are the pins of a double-leaf hinge, of a type similar to that of the trade used for the assembly of doors which must open in both directions of crossing the threshold.
On the inclined edges 1b and lc are mounted small rollers 10 which, during the movement of the chain in the raceways, pass in front of a ramp t constituted by a round bar, suitably bent at the ends (the bar is seen in section in Fig. 2 and 3 but is not shown in Fig. 1). Each ramp Ia is connected to the end of a rod 11 of jacks 12a, 12b distributed along the conveyor, on each side of the latter, at the places provided for the unloading of packages.
The actuators are operated using one of the means known in this type of handling device:
Each jack is actuated, for example, by an electro-valve controlled by an electrical distributor (also called electro-mechanical memory) located at the loading point and mechanically connected to the chain drive member. If one turn of the distributor corresponds to the length served by the conveyor, any electrical contact located at a point on the periphery of the distributor may correspond to a well-defined point served, so that at the loading point, by depositing a package on a pallet we can put exactly the contact which will determine the place where the pallet will tilt.
When this has arrived opposite the unloading point, the cylinder 12a or 12b, depending on the side chosen, is actuated by the solenoid valve, the rod
1 1 of the jack rises with the ramp 11a, the roller 10 goes up on the ramp, the pallet tilts around the axis 8 (when it is the jack 12a which is put in
action), and comes into the position shown in phantom (fig. 2). The package then slides by gravity and is evacuated laterally.
Conversely, if the cylinder 12b is actuated, the pallet will tilt around the axis 6.
According to the variant shown in fig. 3, the bottom of the pallet is provided with two oblique extensions 13a, 13b each terminating in a small cylinder 14a, 14b, the axes of these cylinders being parallel to the main direction of the chain.
Each chain link is completed by a support 15, the upper face of which has two housings 16a, 1 6b (see detail figure 4), to receive the two cylinders 14a, 14b in the rest position.
When one of the jacks is put into action, for example the jack 12b (fig. 3), its growing rod causes the pallet to pivot around the articulation axis formed by the cylinder 14a rotating in the housing 16a. , the cylinder 1 4b having disengaged from the housing 1 6b at the start of the pivoting movement of the pallet.
Each of the housings 16a, 16b has a raised rim 17a, 17b which extends the bearing surface of the cylinder in its housing and which, optionally, serves as a stop to limit the tilting of the pallet (FIG. 4).
One or two springs 18 connects the bottom of the pallet and the support 15 and acts, on the one hand, to ensure the elastic retention of the cylinders in their housing and, on the other hand, to return the pallet to a horizontal position.
The supporting elements, instead of being made in the form of pallets, could be made in the form of trays mounted in the manner of pallets on the links of the chain. It is also understood that the side edges of the bins or pallets can be connected to each other by flexible bands, made of rubberized canvas for example, so as to constitute a load-bearing path without a solution of continuity.
