Process for the production of molded parts from plastics
The present invention relates to a method for the production of molded parts from plastics and also to a device for carrying out the method and to a product of the method.
For the production of molded parts in which a certain minimum wall thickness is to be fallen short of, a method has become known in which a heated core is briefly immersed in a film-forming plastic powder. The molded part that forms on the surface of the core is then removed from the core. According to this process, the production of a molded body with a layer thickness of 0.5 mm requires the tool to be reheated and the dipping process to be repeated.
For the reasons given, the processes mentioned have not yet made it possible to economically manufacture large, self-supporting molded parts in one operation. In addition, test results obtained in practice show that layers applied one after the other have very little adhesion and tend to detach from one another after a while. Another disadvantage results from the fact that multiple heating and cooling of the molding tool to be coated can damage the material's molecular structure.
The method according to the present invention eliminates these disadvantages and consists in that the plastic is introduced into a cold mold corresponding to the outer shape of the part to be produced, which is then heated by a heating device, with a plastic deposit forming on the inner walls of the mold, the thickness of which depends on the duration and intensity of the temperature effect, and that after the desired layer thickness has been reached, the plastic that has not been deposited into a film is removed and, after the mold has been removed from the heating device, the molded part is removed from the mold in a cooled state.
This method enables the efficient production of large-area and thick-walled molded parts in a manufacturing process similar to a cyclic process, in which the optionally variable layer thickness can be determined in advance and can be designed according to the practical requirements through a one-time heating process with minimal equipment expenditure and relatively low molding costs .
Exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a cross section through a molding tool with a core.
Fig. 2 is a view of a control panel with a timer.
3 shows a cross section through an embodiment variant.
According to the method according to the invention, plastic is first introduced into a cold molding tool, the molding tool being filled with plastic up to the edge. In order to achieve uniform wall thicknesses and for the trouble-free, efficient and unhindered implementation of the process, an essential requirement is to fill the molding tool outside of the heating tool, that is to say in the cold state. Should release agents prove to be necessary, then they are applied or sprayed onto the inside of the mold in the usual way before the start of the filling process. If you want to use the core tool, this is first inserted into the mold and the space thus created between the mold and the core tool is filled with plastic.
The mold prepared in this way is inserted into the heating device. This takes the heat, which transmits the necessary temperature to the mold, from an arrangement attached to the outer wall in front of radiant heaters or a heating oil bath, a heating air flow or the like. It is advisable to let the heat act directly on the mold or individual parts of it. The latter is caused by the fact that the wall of the heating device is more or less perforated. In this case, for example, an oil bath cannot be used. As a result of the action of heat, the plastic is deposited on the inner wall of the mold to form a layer or a film.
The layer thickness of the precipitation is! determined by the duration of the action of heat and by the distance between the molding tool and the heating device, if necessary also by the intensity of the heat action which can be directed to certain points on the molding tool. The degree of heat exposure can be regulated by suitable measuring tools and is set in such a way that structural damage to the material to be processed by depolymerization, decomposition, etc. does not occur.
After the desired layer thickness has been reached, the core tool, as far as it has been used, is removed from the mold in any case. Any material not deposited on the inner wall of the molded part is removed by suitable devices (for example suction systems), the molding tool generally remaining in the heating device.
The heat that may continue to act on the molding tool can achieve a smooth surface of the plastic deposit.
It is very important here that, as a result of the effect of heat from the outside inwards, i.e. in the direction of the surface of the molded part that is now exposed, the formation of bubbles or air inclusions are avoided.
The molding tool is removed from the heating device and cooled, for example at room temperature. It can be useful to achieve shrinkage or shrinkage by a subsequent cooling process.
To achieve consolidation of the material. The molded part produced in this way is then removed from the mold and optionally passed on for further processing.
The process according to the invention can be used to produce: refrigerator containers, cover hoods for machine units, boat parts, tubs, body parts, boxes, acid balloons, pickling bodies, buoys, buckets, agitator containers, plates, pontoons, solid rods, exhaustor housings, blocks, pipes, barrels, etc.
The device for carrying out the method has two or three tools that are designed to match their specific tasks. Since the tools either do not have to withstand any pressure at all or, if one uses an elastic core tool that is under pressure, only this and the molding tool have to withstand a relatively very low pressure, the tools can be produced inexpensively. The heating device and mold can be made of thin-walled sheet metal. To achieve a smooth surface, the mold can inside z. B. be chrome-plated. Refractory glass has also proven itself as a molding tool.
The heating device is used for heat transfer and is designed in such a way that the thermal radiation on the molding tool can be adjusted, specifically in such a way that, if necessary, certain points of the molding tool can be exposed to excessive thermal radiation. Similar to the way a male mold fits into the female mold, the forming tool is inserted into the heating tool to be designed according to it, or vice versa. The inner wall or the inner contours of the molding tool correspond during the manufacturing process in all cases to the outer wall or the outer contours of the molded part to be produced therein.
In certain cases it is expedient to use a core tool, which in turn is inserted into the molding tool. The task of the core tool is primarily to reduce the amount of plastic to be filled into the mold. This core tool can be designed in a rigid or elastic form, in the latter case it transfers this to the filled plastic by filling it with water or air under pressure. The core tool can also be set up to be heatable if required.
Glass, metal, wood, ceramics or other mineral materials are used to build the tools, although the tools mentioned need not be made of the same material.
For example, the heating device can consist of thin-walled sheet metal, while glass is used for the molding tool and wood is used for the core tool. Plastics and rubber can also be used, provided they have sufficient temperature resistance.
example 1
It describes the production of a bathtub in the dimensions 600 mm high, 600 mm wide, 150 mm long, by oil bath heating with a wall thickness of 2.5 mm made of polyethylene powder: The device consists of a correspondingly insulated container 1, in which is diphyl oil, which is heated to a temperature of about 2700 by an electrical heating coil 4 located on the bottom and on the sides of the container. In this heating device, which is slightly larger than the contours of the tub corresponding, a thin-walled sheet metal mold with a thickness of 0.5 mm is used as a form tool 2. This sheet metal shape is open at the top.
On its shaping outside, this actual molding tool corresponds exactly to the contours of the tub to be produced and lies in the heating device, the space between the heating device and the molding tool being as small as possible. A holding member 3 is attached to the mold, with the aid of which it can be inserted into and removed from the heating device.
The production of a tub is done in the following way:
The diphyl bath is heated to around 2700. After the core tool 6 has been inserted, the polyethylene powder 7 is filled up to the edge of the molding tool located outside the heating tool, after it has been coated on its inner walls with a release agent 5 (for example paraffin oil). The molding tool is then inserted into the heating device by hand or by pulley. The molding tool can be covered as desired to avoid heat loss and to keep the powdery material clean.
The heat radiation emanating from the heating device melts the polyethylene powder in the mold, in such a way that a coherent layer of melt forms on the inner walls of the mold, which slowly grows stronger under the permanent heat. About 6 minutes after inserting the mold, the powdery polyethylene on the inside wall of the mold has reached a continuous layer thickness of 2.5 mm; 7 minutes after inserting the mold, the plastic has reached a layer thickness of 3 mm, while after 10 minutes it has already reached a continuous layer thickness of 4 mm.
Molded parts with the layer thicknesses mentioned fulfill their purpose as self-supporting structural parts. The end of the process is indicated by a timer (Fig. 2) after the desired layer thickness has been reached. If present, the cover located on the mold is removed. The core tool is lifted out by hand or by pulley. The unmelted polyethylene powder still in the mold is emptied using a suction device. The loose plastic powder adhering to the inside of the formed layer is removed with a broom. This already results in a smoothing of the polyethylene film. This smoothing is completed if the molding tool is left in the heating device for a period of about 5 minutes.
Finally, the molding tool is removed from the heating device and cooled in a water bath of about 15 minutes for about 3 minutes to achieve compression and thus shrinkage of the film. After cooling, the molded part can be removed and put to use or to further preparation, for example by attaching drainage nozzles. After the molding tool has been removed, the heating device, which is kept at a constant temperature, is ready to receive another molding tool, so that a continuous work process is guaranteed.
In general, if only one heating device is present, at least two molding tools will be used; while the first molding tool is inserted into the heating device after completion of the filling process and subjected to the melting process, the second tool is filled and made available. The duration of the entire manufacturing process for the above tub with a total weight of about 10 kg is
14 minutes.
Example II
The production of a 350 liter container, self-supporting construction, with reinforced bottom is described:
The molding tool 1 according to FIG. 3 is sprayed with release agent in a manner known per se, the core tool 2 is attached and the resulting space is then filled with plastic powder 3 - in this case polyethylene.
The device is now ready for use and is inserted into the heating device 4. The hot air - in the present case it is fuel gases from an oil furnace with a temperature of about 1400 C, with a volume of 12 m3 per minute - now flows around the entire heating tool 4, caused by the adjustable perforation of the heat distributor 5, in particular the floor area, because a greater layer thickness is required here due to the particular stress on the molded part during later use. After 2 minutes, a plastic deposit of 1.5 mm can be observed, which after a further 3 minutes has reached a thickness of 4 mm.
At this moment the core tool 2 is pulled out, the remaining powder is removed, but without the mold 1 being removed from the heating device 4.
After a further 2 minutes, the remaining air pockets have been pressed onto the surface and out of the layer created by the rearward radiation heat of the hot air, which at the same time leads to a very good high gloss of the layer without the thermoplastic material being exposed to a temperature fluctuation. The process is now over.
The molding tool 1 is removed from the heating device 2 by means of a crane. After cooling, the finished molded part can be removed and sent for further processing, for example deburring. In the meantime, of course, a second and third mold have been prepared so that a 350-liter container with a side wall thickness of 4 mm and a bottom wall thickness of 5.5 mm is completed every 7 minutes.
Example III
The production of a 60 liter balloon for storing liquids is described:
In this case, the molding tool is in two parts and, after screwing, is filled with a plastic powder, for example polyethylene, in the manner already mentioned. The mold prepared in this way is placed on a roller block which, by means of a motor, causes the mold to rotate slowly. A burner, in this case a gas burner, whose shape corresponds exactly to the contours of the molding tool, is attached above the molding tool. By slowly rotating under this heating device, it is heated and the process is carried out in the manner already described. This arrangement can also be such that the heating device moves around the molding tool.
Induction heating can also be used in the same way, the heat exchanger naturally also corresponding to the contours of the molding tool.
