Cet appareil est caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend au moins un élément formant cuvette de forme approximativement ovoïde, épousant la forme du corps de l'enfant, et réalisé de manière à pouvoir recevoir l'enfant allongé sur le dos et à envelopper et à entourer le séant de ce dernier, ladite cuvette comportant un repose-tête. La cuvette peut être sou tenue par des pieds.
La forme creuse de la cuvette est étudiée et réali sée de manière à pouvoir recevoir l'enfant sans qu'il soit bridé d'une manière quelconque, mais il ne peut se retourner ou se redresser comme il le ferait sur une surface plane ou même sur un coussin.
Cet appareil a pour but de permettre de langer l'enfant sans être gêné par les mouvements de ce dernier, de le recevoir après le bain et de l'essuyer, de lui appliquer des serviettes chaudes, etc., en un mot de lui donner tous les soins requis. Si besoin en est, la personne pratiquant les soins peut même s'éloigner, sans aucun risque, puisque l'enfant ne peut se redresser ni se retourner, ni encore attraper les objets qui l'entourent : épingles, flacons, boîtes, linges, etc.
L'appareil peut être utilisé également comme chaise de relaxe pour l'enfant.

L'appareil peut être construit en une forme uni que convenant pour un bébé depuis sa naissance jus qu'à l'âge de deux ans, ou bien il peut être construit en deux ou trois tailles différentes, par exemple de 1 jour à 6 mois, de 6 à 14 mois et de 14 à 24 mois.
Ces tailles différentes peuvent être séparées ou être emboîtables les unes dans les autres. Dans chacune des formes d'exécution possibles, l'appareil peut être pourvu de moyens permettant d'y adapter de manière fixe ou amovible, des augets ou autres réceptacles destinés à recevoir les objets nécessaires à la toilette ou aux soins de l'enfant, tels que, par exemple: épingles, boite à talc, coton, etc.
De même, dans chacune de ses formes d'exécu tion, cet appareil peut être conçu de manière à être démontable dans le but de réduire son encombre ment pour le transport ou le rangement.
Une forme d'exécution, donnée à titre d'exemple, est représentée au dessin annexé, dans lequel la fig. 1 en est une vue en perspective ; la fig. 2 est une vue latérale de l'appareil de la fig. 1 la fig. 3 est une vue de l'appareil couché sur un de ses côtés et montrant le fond de la cuvette. L'appareil représenté se compose d'une cuvette 1, de forme sensiblement ovoïde et creuse exécutée en une matière moulée. La cuvette 1 repose sur les pieds 2 exécutés en tube métàllique replié et con venablement fixés sur la face inférieure de la cuvette.
Les bords longitudinaux 3 de la cuvette sont relevés de manière à procurer à cette dernière la forme approximative d'une auge allongée, dont le fond 4 est relativement fortement déprimé, de ma nière à pouvoir envelopper et entourer le séant de l'enfant ; la partie avant 5 de la cuvette se relève pour servir de repose-tête, tandis que sa partie ar rière 6 est approximativement horizontale au-delà de la dépression 4.
Le profil général de l'appareil apparaît plus clai rement à la fig. 2, dans laquelle se marque très visi blement la dépression 4 destinée à recevoir le séant de l'enfant. Comme montré par le dessin, la forme de la cuvette a été étudiée et exécutée de manière que, sans emploi de liens, de brides ou autres, l'en fant, allongé sur le dos, ne puisse se retourner ou se redresser et de manière qu'il soit possible à la per sonne qui le soigne de l'atteindre de tous côtés sans entraves ni gêne.
