Method for operating a two-electrode arc lamp and circuit for carrying out the method In the previously known, closed metal arc lamps, an incandescent spiral is usually used to initiate ignition, which causes an ionization of the discharge path to glow, whereupon an auxiliary Lielitbogen between the incandescent spiral and a Main electrode is created. The arc jumps. afterwards to the two main electrodes. This ignition process is controlled manually.
The disadvantage of this arrangement is that the glow spiral, as the part that is subjected to the greatest stress, is subject to great wear and tear and is destroyed relatively quickly.
Other ignition devices have also been proposed for two-electrode metal arc lamps in which a bimetallic strip is arranged in one electrode, the electrodes being in contact when they are cold.
The bimetallic strip bends under the effect of the heat from the starting current and causes the electrodes to separate. the arc is ignited between the two electrodes. These tubes are sensitive because of the pear-shaped stripe and are also coated.
The present invention aims to overcome these disadvantages.
The present invention relates to a method for operating a two-electrode arc lamp and is characterized in that a high-frequency voltage is applied to the two electrodes of the arc lamp to ignite the same, which causes a radio discharge between the electrodes, and that afterwards successful ignition - the lamp operates at low frequency.
The circuit also forming the subject of the present invention for imple mentation of the method is characterized by a closed circuit containing the arc lamp and a secondary winding and a primary winding of a high-frequency transformer that interacts with the secondary winding and a mains frequency circuit connected to said circuit .
In the accompanying drawing, an example circuit is schematically Darge provides.
The two-electrode arc lamp 1, which has two electrodes, is arranged in a circle?, Which contains a secondary winding 3 and a capacitor .1. This- ; kundärwieklung 3 helps to put the primary wiek- luno '5 of a high frequency transformer together, which one in a circle? A hotel frequency current is generated.
To this circle? a further circuit 7 is connected for the low frequency, which contains two choke coils 8 and a further capacitor 9 and which is connected to the usual low frequency network 10.
The effect of the choke coil 8 and the capacitors 1 and 9 is that they prevent the high frequency from being exceeded, which in the circuit? is generated in the low frequency network.
For the low frequency, the arrangement of the choke coil 8 and the capacitors 1 and 9 is sufficiently permeable, while rend it is impermeable to the high frequency in the other direction.
The arrangement described has the advantage that a high only for the ignition; frequency source 6 is required., and that normal operation with low frequency is possible, so that the high frequency system is largely spared. Furthermore, the present method has the advantage that the arc lamp is extremely simple and operationally reliable, since it does not have a special ignition unit, which represents the most sensitive part of the tube.
