Method for attaching buttons to articles of clothing and apparatus for its execution
The present invention relates to a method for attaching buttons to items of clothing, to be precise without the use of ordinary thread, which is partly exposed to wear and partly caused by friction to wear the buttonhole intended for buttoning. This means that the buttons separate pretty soon and have to be sewn on again. The actual wear and tear can be reduced to a minimum by z. B. attaches an intermediate piece between the button and the garment. If this adapter is used, both the fastening threads of the button and the edges of the button hole are effectively protected against wear.
This last-mentioned method has given good results when sewing buttons by hand, where the fastening thread is properly attached. In contrast, certain difficulties arise when sewing with a machine, e.g. B. in the clothing industry, in that the fastening thread has to be attached by hand, which is time-consuming. Furthermore, unlike sewing by hand, it is difficult to sew with the machine through said intermediate piece.
The present invention relates to a method for attaching buttons to items of clothing with the aid of a thermosetting plastic, characterized in that an adapted amount of the plastic in liquid form is pressed through the fabric of the item of clothing and the holes of the button placed on it.
The present invention also relates to a device suitable for carrying out the method, characterized by a device for supplying solid plastic to a heatable melting device, a device for dispensing an adjustable amount of liquefied plastic in a channel opening below the fastening point of the button, and an upper, above the arm ending at the fastening point, in the lower part of which an upwardly and downwardly movable piston-like centering device is arranged for placing and pressing a button.
In the following the invention is explained in more detail with reference to an embodiment shown in the accompanying drawing. The device in question is illustrated schematically in side view.
The lower arm 1 is attached to a base 2 and is provided with a drain opening 3 of a tube 4 which leads from a heating chamber 5, the temperature of which is regulated by means of a thermostat, not shown. In said heating chamber a device 6 is provided, which by means of a piston a predetermined amount of a thermosetting plastic which has been converted into liquid form. through the tube 4 to the drain opening 3.
7 denotes a tube or a channel for the purpose of supplying a tape or a strand of solid plastic from a supply, for example a supply roll (not shown), to the heating chamber 5 and the distribution device 6. The advance of this strand or tape to the Xeiz- chamber 5 or the Device 6 for dispensing the molten plastic can, as indicated schematically in the drawing, be effected by means of a toothed rod which is actuated by a Rebelsystem.7.
The base 2 also carries another arm 8, which consists of two vertical parts, a longer one and a shorter one, which are connected to a horizontal part. The shorter vertical part is arranged at a short distance above the opening 3 provided on the upper side of the lower arm 1. In the lower part of this shorter, vertical part of the arm 8, an upwardly and downwardly movable piston 9 is provided, which is provided with a centering device 10, which in turn is partly with a channel 11 for the automatic supply of hollow spacers 12 and partly with a channel 13 for the purpose automatic supply of buttons 14 after the centering device 10 is connected. The supply is carried out in such a way that a spacer is first supplied, after which a button is attached to the spacer.
The piston 9 is actuated by means of a lever system 15.
The device works in the following way:
First of all, a small hole is expediently made in the garment at the point where the button is to be attached.
If the tissue is very leaky, you can dispense with the provision of such holes or you can only limit yourself to a certain separation of the threads at this point. The hole can be made with a piercing or cutting tool, not shown in the drawing, e.g. B. with a needle. The hole can optionally be designed as a small cross or a small hole. The item of clothing is then attached to the upper side of the arm 1 via the opening 3, whereupon the spacer together with the button is inserted into the centering device 10 in the piston 9. A certain amount of plastic, corresponding to a certain length of the plastic strand, is introduced into the heating chamber 5 and conveyed further to the device 6, which delivers a predetermined amount of liquid plastic to the opening 3.
Simultaneously with this, the piston 9 and the centering device 10 are pressed against the opening 3 by means of the lever system 15 and a pedal lever (not shown), and just when the piston and the centering device have come into contact with the item of clothing and against the item of clothing and the upper surface of the arm 1, the predetermined amount of molten thermosetting plastic is injected through the garment, spacer and button and caused to harden. The piston 9 and the centering device 10 are then removed, and the process is repeated the next time a button is attached.
The invention is of course not limited to the embodiment described, but can be changed in various ways within the scope of the same.
The plastic used should harden while maintaining a certain elasticity. As a practical matter, curing must be done fairly quickly, which is why thermosetting plastics are preferable.
The buttons or spacers arranged between the buttons and their fastening point can of course be attached to their place by hand.
The device can also be provided with an embossing tool serving as a pre-holder, whereby one z. B. an imitation of the cross obtained when sewing buttons by hand or by machine, which is formed by the fastening thread, can emboss on the top of the button. The formation of a button-like body can also be achieved on the underside of the material, which helps to secure the fastening of the button by embossing the plastic layer that remains there.
