Tongue oscillator with a short settling time Tongue oscillators of known type consist essentially of a ferromagnetic visual tongue as a frequency-determining element and two permanent magnetic circuits, each with an induction coil, one circuit for driving, the other circuit for feedback.
These two magnetic circuits are usually formed by two permanent magnets and close with the help of two air gaps each over the vibrating tongue, whereby the two flows in the vibrating tongue should be in the same direction and equally strong. The EMF induced by the movement of the vibrating tongue in the coil of one magnetic circuit is transmitted to the grid of an electron tube and the anode current change that is forced by this is used via the coil of the second magnetic circuit to maintain the vibrations of the vibrating tongue. It is a magnetic-mechanical feedback from the anode to the grid of the drive tube.
As a result of this feedback, the oscillation swings to a constant maximum amplitude corresponding to the electrical drive conditions. To maintain the oscillation, the phase shift between the anode current and the induced grid voltage must be 180 when using a triode or @ 0 when using a double triode.
It has now been recognized that in addition to the mechanical-magnetic coupling of the anode circle and the grid circle via the oscillating tongue, there is an additional inductive coupling between the anode coil and the grid coil due to the inevitable leakage flux. If this inductive coupling is greater than the mechanical-magnetic coupling via the vibrating tongue, vibrations occur that are no longer determined by the vibrating tongue, but rather by inductances and capacitances in the circuit.
The leakage flux and thus the inductive coupling mentioned depends on the construction (air gaps, iron path) and the size of the drive energy. In order to ensure stable operation of the tongue oscillator, the drive energy for the vibrating tongue must not exceed a certain maximum value, which also defines the lower limit for the settling time of the tongue oscillator.
This restriction is very disadvantageous for the use of tongue oscillators in audio-frequency signal and control systems, in that the desired short settling time is usually not achievable and consequently an often considerable extension of the response time of switching and control means has to be accepted, or it has to the tongue oscillator run continuously.
The invention aims to remedy the aforementioned after part by compensating for the inductive coupling. It relates to a tongue oscillator with a short settling time, which is characterized in that it has two magnetic gges with two coils each in such a spatial arrangement and electrical circuit that the electrical-magnetic system is symmetrical with respect to the inductive couplings , the magneto-mechanical system is asymmetrical with regard to the moments of force acting on the tongue.
In particular, this is achieved in that in each magnetic circuit a coil is arranged close to the end of the tongue and a coil is arranged close to the clamping point of the tongue, and that the coils of each magnetic circuit are connected in series and the coils of one circuit with respect to the Winding sense in the same direction, but the coils of the other circuit are connected together in opposite directions.
An embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. The drawing shows in Fig. 1 an arrangement of the magnetic circuit in perspective, in Fig. 2 a circuit diagram with an electric tube.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 1 there is a vibrating tongue 11 on the left and right of a permanent magnetic circuit, the fluxes of which are indicated by the dashed lines 12, 13. The magnetic circuit 12 to the left of the tongue is formed by a permanent magnet 14 and two soft iron cores 15, 16, each core 15 and 16 with the tongue 11 forming an air gap. A coil 17 and 18 is arranged on each core 15 and 16, respectively.
The two coils 17 and 18 are dimensioned exactly the same and have the same number of turns. The magnetic circuit 13 to the right of the tongue is formed by a permanent magnet 19 and two soft iron cores analogous to the cores 15 and 16, which, however, are not visible in the drawing and which also form two air gaps with the tongue. Each of these cores carries a coil 20 or 21. Both coils 20, 21 are dimensioned exactly the same and have the same number of turns. The two coil pairs can be the same or different, as will be discussed later.
In contrast, the two permanent fluxes 12 and 13 must be equally meaningful and equally strong, which is achieved in that the two magnets 14 and 19 are magnetized to the same extent and the four cores and air gaps are arranged exactly symmetrically with respect to the tongue 11. The two rivers enter in the vicinity of the free-swinging end of the tongue 11 and in the vicinity of the clamping point again. The winding starts of the coils are marked with A, the winding ends with E.
The two coils of each pair are connected in series, namely the two coils 17, 18 are connected in opposite directions by connecting the winding end E of the coil 17 with the winding end E of the coil 18 </ B> is connected while the two coils 20, 21 are connected in the same direction by the winding end E of the coil 20 with the winding beginning A of the coil 21 is connected. The lines 22, 23, 24 going out from the coils are used for connection to a drive tube.
Circuits of drive tubes with Tri odes are known. It is also known to use a double triode as the drive tube, which has the advantage that the loading of the anode circuit of the first system has only a negligible effect on the anode current of the second system and, as a double tube, provides a much greater gain. A relevant circuit is shown in FIG.
The coils and their connections are labeled the same as in Fig.1. The lead 22 of the left coil pair is connected via a coupling capacitor 25 to the second anode of the tube, the lead 23 of the right coil pair is on the first grid of the tube and the two coil pairs common return line 24 is on the cathodes.
The capacitor 25 forms with the coils 17, 18 an oscillating circuit which is tuned to a resonance frequency which is equal to the reed frequency. This vote can be followed by adjusting the coupling capacitor 25 or by connecting a tuning capacitor in parallel to the coils. The anode alternating current in the coils 1'7, 18 superimposes an alternating fluid on the permanent flux 12, which causes the tongue 11 to vibrate.
The vibrations of the tongue 11 induce the grid voltage in the coils 20, 21. The inductive coupling of the two coils 17 and 20 occurring as a result of scattering is compensated by the counter-coupling of the two coils 18 and 21 which is equally strong due to the symmetrical conditions.
Because the two coils 17 and 20 with their cores near the free-swinging end of the tongue, but the cores 18 and 21 with their cores near the clamping point - the tongue is arranged and the coils of one pair are connected to one another the magnetic mechanical coupling is asymmetrical.
The anode current generates an alternating flux in the core of the coil 18, the phase position of which is shifted by 180 relative to the alternating flux in the core of the coil 17. However, while the flux of the coil 1'7 for exciting the tongue is almost completely used, the flux of the coil 18 has only a small effect on the tongue. The tongue vibrations induce voltages proportional to the amplitude and in phase in the coils 20 and 21; that add up.
From this consideration it can be seen that the coil pairs of the grid circle and the anode circle can be interchanged. If the line 22 is connected to the grid and the line 23 is connected to the anode via the coupling capacitor 25, the fluxes of the drive coils 21, 2: 2 add up and the induced voltages of the coils 17, 18 subtract, so that the overall effect is the same remains.
When making a tongue oscillator, it is convenient to make all four coils the same. However, it can be advantageous to make the number of turns of the coils in the two systems different in order to achieve better adaptation of the resonance circuit for a specific oscillator frequency.
