Building material and process for its production Building materials made from caustic Ma gnesia (magnesium oxide), magnesium chloride and organic or inorganic fillers are known. To produce one of these types of building material, caustic magnesia is mixed with a filler, which usually consists of sawdust or cork flour. Stone powder and dyes, especially ocher, can be added to this sawdust or cork flour.
The whole thing is then processed with a magnesium chloride solution of 20 to 2: 5 Be to form a mortar-like mass that is pressed or poured into sheets. The hardening takes 16 to 20 hours; and a product of great hardness and compressive strength results.
The production price of this building material is largely determined by the proportion of caustic magnesia that is obtained by heating magnesite to a maximum of 800. In principle, an inorganic filler, for example sand, can also be used as a filler, especially if this sand is used as sand flour. Ilierdureh increases but the necessary proportion of magnesium oxide, whereby the production costs are increased considerably. At the same time, the dam values of the building material decrease.
For these reasons, that is to say to achieve sufficient insulation strength and at the same time a sufficiently low price, wood or cork flour, that is an organic filler, is used as a filler in the common wood or cork flour. The use of such organic fillers also improves the workability of the building material, which is particularly important for its surface. In this way, sufficient insulation is achieved, especially for heat, even if the sound insulation of this building material is very low and practically zero, regardless of which fillers are used.
When using organic fillers, so in particular wood flour or cork flour, difficulties arise that are primarily due to the water absorption capacity of these organic fillers. The building material produced in this way has a tendency to cracks and changes in shape, even after a long period of storage, which is a considerable disadvantage, especially with floor panels. This is related to the fact that this building material is poorly insulated against electrical currents. In order not to let these disadvantages become too great, one is forced to limit the proportion of organic fillers, which in turn means that - apart from the completely inadequate sound insulation, the thermal insulation also leaves something to be desired.
The invention aims to remedy these disadvantages. The building material according to the invention contains a hardened conversion product of caustic magnesia, magnesium chloride and water and inorganic or organic fillers and is characterized in that it contains pores whose walls are formed from the conversion product mentioned. Foaming agents are known in particular from foam concrete production.
Because these foaming agents are introduced into the mass, it is possible to use mechanical, especially mechanical stirrers, whipers, compulsory mixers or the like to bring air bubbles into the mass that are stable enough to survive the hardening of the product.
This results in a building material of great porosity, high strength and extremely low specific weight, which has great heat and impact sound insulation. It is easily possible to obtain a density of 300 kg / ms with completely sufficient strength.
Because the structure of the building material has been loosened with the help of the foaming agent, it is possible without hesitation, to a large extent and even exclusively, to add inorganic fillers, for example sand, not only in the form of sand flour, but also in the form of coarse, unground sand can be used without the risk that the high-cost magnesium oxide content increases unreasonably or that the insulation values are too low.
So without the need to use organic fillers, for example wood flour, values for heat and impact sound insulation are obtained that are significantly more favorable than the corresponding values for the known stone wood building material.
The building material can be further improved by adding synthetic resin and / or bitumen to it during its manufacture. This results in an extremely tough structure with great flexural and tensile strength. This also makes it possible to obtain a solid building material.
The building material is preferably produced by producing foam from a foam-forming agent and an aqueous magnesium chloride solution, adding magnesium oxide and organic or inorganic fillers and allowing the mass to harden. Then a synthetic resin and / or bitumen can gradually be added together with an organic or inorganic filler. The mass obtained in this way solidifies with hardening. The process can also be carried out without synthetic resin and / or bitumen.
However, if synthetic resin is added, which significantly improves the product, it will often be advisable to add some bitumen. The magnesium chloride solution is a very aggressive lye that has a rust-promoting and iron-decomposing effect. By adding bitumen, this effect is largely prevented.
It is advisable to add synthetic resin and / or bitumen in the form of a dispersion or emulsion. In terms of water, only the water of solution of the magnesium chloride solution and the small amount of water for the synthetic resin and / or bitumen dispersion or emulsion are required for the construction of the building material. Additional amounts of water, such as those required for all lightweight concretes, are completely eliminated here. In this way, this building material and its manufacturing process can also be used with great advantage to provide for self-contained screed ceilings directly on the building.
Another advantage here is that the product produced according to the invention can be walked on just a short time after being poured on. A few hours are enough to carry out an inspection without hesitation, and after a day you can continue working on the screed.
The aqueous magnesium chloride solution preferably has a density of 30 to 3.5 Be; is therefore much tougher than the magnesium chloride solution that is usually used to produce stone wood.
In the manufacture of the building material, the stability of the foam produced, which must not be destroyed when the filler or the dispersion or emulsion is introduced, is of crucial importance. The compatibility of the foaming agent with the other components of the building material is also essential. The ammonium salt of an alkylaryl sulfonic acid has proven to be particularly advantageous here. If the ammonium salt has also proven to be particularly valuable, other alkylarylsulfonates can also be used.
It has also been found to be useful to use this foam agent. Adding a stabilizer, which is preferably a polyacrylic acid ester. With the help of this combined foaming agent, i.e. the agent that also contains the stabilizer, air is whipped into the magnesium chloride solution using a mechanical mixer, for example, until a stable foam has formed.
Thereafter, the bitumen or the synthetic resin in the form of a dispersion or emulsion together with men. be added to the organic or inorganic filler. A gradual addition is recommended, with some synthetic resin or bitumen emulsion or dispersion and then some filler being added intermittently, for example.
The fact that not only sawdust or cork flour, but any other organic or inorganic filler, for example also coarse, unground sand, can be added as filler without destroying the stable foam mass is particularly beneficial.
If it is also advisable to mix the filler and the plastic or bi tumen emulsion or dispersion with the foam mass by machine, this mixing can easily be done by hand.
If a synthetic resin dispersion or emulsion is used to carry out the process, a polyvinyl resin and especially polyvinyl acetate are preferably used. A stable bitumen emulsion is preferably used as the bitumen dispersion or emulsion. It has already been mentioned that the method can be used with great advantage for the production of screeds directly on the building. Instead, however, building blocks or building boards can also be produced in any size.
It is furthermore also possible to manufacture entire components according to the method according to the invention, for example the wall of a house or a room, in which case corresponding openings for doors, windows etc. are to be provided.
Finally, the building material according to the invention can be used with great advantage in connection with other building elements, with its good adhesion being particularly beneficial. It is known, for example, that asbestos cement with a thickness of a few millimeters can be used to cover any rooms to the outside with great advantage. This asbestos cement is used for this purpose in the form of straight or corrugated sheets.
Its shortcoming lies in the inadequate heat and sound insulation capacity. It is now easily possible to cover this asbestos cement with a layer of the porous building material produced according to the invention by, for example, painting the mixture of the starting materials onto the corrugated sheet or the smooth sheet of asbestos cement. This results in extremely good heat and sound insulation for the entire product.
The fact that the building material according to the invention is watertight and that the water does not penetrate into its interior even after prolonged exposure to water has a very favorable effect on all of these areas of use.
The following values may be mentioned as an example of a mixing ratio that has proven itself: 0.75 1 magnesium chloride in an aqueous solution of 3i2 Be, 9 g foaming agent in combination with the stabilizer, 400 g magnesium oxide (caustic magnesia), < B> 30 g stable bitumen emulsion, 1.5 1 wood flour. The second listed foam.

In the building material according to the invention, for example, the wood flour grains are no longer present as a compact mass of stone wood, but rather in a pore latticework, which, together with the bitumen or synthetic resin, has the result that the material does not tend to crack or deform at all.
