Magnetic coupling The subject of the present invention is a magnetic coupling of the type in which a flowable magnetic material is used to form a connection in an annular space between the driving and the driven element of the coupling. The magnetic material can be removed from the annular space when the magnetic field is completely de-excited.
The invention aims to create a short, compact magnetic coupling, in particular for vehicles, which for a given ge, to be transmitted torque compared to the previously known couplings of this type a smaller weight. having.
According to the invention for this purpose a magnetic coupling with rotating drive and output elements, each having magnetizable parts, between which an annular space serving to accommodate a flowable magnetic material is formed, and with means for generating a magnetic field between these magnetizable parts, characterized in that the field-generating means comprise an annular field coil and axially spaced apart cylinders attached to one of those rotating elements,
which latter cylinder between itself and a magnetizable part of this rotating part enclose an annular space in which a magnetizable sleeve connected to the other of these rotating elements is arranged in such a way that gaps are formed on opposite sides of this sleeve, in which the flowable magnetic material can flow, said ring-shaped field coil being used to generate a ring magnetic field with lines of force that go through the various magnetizable parts and penetrate the sleeve twice, thus four magnetic gaps, two on each side of the sleeve , forming,
and wherein the various parts are arranged so that when the coil is excited, the magnetic material is drawn into said magnetic gaps and can flow out of these gaps again when the coil is de-excited.
The aforementioned, for the formation of the annular space serving, magnetizable part can form a ferromagnetic cylinder, which surrounds the mentioned in the axial direction with inter mediate space of each other and is connected to these and in which the said ring field coil is arranged within the latter magnetizable cylinder is.
The connection between the ferromagnetic cylinder and the axially spaced apart cylinder can be formed by a non-magnetic ring. The sleeve can have a part in a plane between the said cylinders, which are axially spaced apart from one another, the magnetic resistance of which is greater than that of the rest of the sleeve. For example, it can be provided there with a groove running in the circumferential direction or with openings.
In the accompanying drawing, an example embodiment of the invention is shown; It shows: FIG. 1 an axial section through an excited magnetic coupling, the section in the upper half along the line A-A of FIG. 2 and the section.
in the lower half of the line B -B of Fig. 2, Fig. 2 is a partial development for Dar position of the shape of a ferromagnetic sleeve according to the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a partial section for Dar position the position of the finely divided, ferromagnetic material when the filled coupling is de-excited,
and Fig. 4 is a section corresponding to FIG. 3 to show the position of said finely divided ferromagnetic material when the filled clutch is excited and a torque transmits.
In the drawings, the same reference numerals are used throughout for corresponding parts.
In Fig. 1 of the drawing, 1 denotes a nut, for example the flange part of the crankshaft of an explosion engine and 3 denotes an output shaft. With the nut 1 screwed ver and generally denoted by 5, the drive element of the clutch is shown. This drive element 5 comprises a radia len disk-shaped part 7 and an outer peripheral, ferromagnetic (steel) cylindrical ring 9. The elements 7 and 9 are preferably formed by a single shell-shaped steel stamped piece.
The transition point 10 between the elements 7 and 9 is formed protruding, as he can be seen from Figure 1. The cylinder 9 is surrounded by a reinforcement band 11 and connected to a part 13 of the engine gearbox. A non-magnetic, shell-shaped ring 15, for example made of aluminum, is also attached to the elements 9 and 11 (by welding). This ring 15 acts as a support for an inner field arrangement 17 which forms part of the drive element 5. This field arrangement has a stamped steel hub 19 with a radial flange 21.
Inside the hub 19 is. a roller bearing 23 is arranged, which by a second, with. the shaft 3 keyed hub 25 is carried. A bearing 27, which is arranged between a tapered end 29 of the shaft 3 and the part 1, is used together with men. the bearing 23 to maintain the co-axiality between the driven and the driving parts.
The field assembly 17 has a pair of ring-shaped steel stampings 37, 39 and ring-shaped steel stampings 33, 35 and 29, 31. All of these punched pieces are held together by rivets. The punched pieces 37 and 39 are advantageously formed the same, as are the pieces 33 and 35 and the pieces 29 and 31. The punched pieces 29, 33 and 37 and the punched pieces 31, 35 and 39 are bundled so that they form lamellations.
Before assembly and riveting, between the two resulting lamellations 29, 33, 37 and 31, 35, 39, an annular field coil 43 and a non-magnetic spacer ring 45, the latter preferably made of aluminum or brass, is arranged. After the parts are riveted together, the coupling appears, as shown in Fig. 1 Darge, the field coil 43 between the Lamelliernngen 29, 33, 37 and 31, 35, 39 is kept ge. The ring 45 is held in position by the edges of the outer cylindrical parts of the punching pieces 29 and 31 and the pieces 33 and 35 overlap by Zylin derteile.
The outer cylindrical surfaces of the stamped pieces 33 and 35 are provided with grooves, as indicated at 47, for example.
At the hub 19, a support 49 for an insulating coil 51 is connected, which carries slip rings 53 for brushes, which are arranged in a suitable excitation circuit. are. The brushes and the excitation circuit are, as they are known, not shown. Lines 55, which are attached in a suitable manner at 5 7, complete the circuit through the coil 43. Suitable openings (not shown) permit the lines 55 to be passed through the field arrangement 17 to the coil 43.
The parts described so far can hereinafter be referred to as the drive part or Feldvorrich device of the magnetic coupling. You are powered by Part 1. The output arrangement is formed by a suitable plate-shaped, ferromagnetic steel punch 59. Its central part 61 is connected to the hub 25 by means of rivets 63. The outer cylindrical edge or sleeve 65 of the part 59 is arranged between the outer surfaces of the punched pieces 33 and 35 and the cylindrical edge of the disc 7.
This sleeve 65 has groups of outer grooves 67 arranged at a distance from one another, as well as a larger central groove 69. This forms four separate gaps 71, 72, 73, 74. All these columns preferably have radial dimensions of 1.2-1.6 mm to 111s inches).
For the purpose of stripping the left gap pair 73, 74 from. Right pair of gaps 71, 72 peripheral elongated slots or openings 75 are provided in the sleeve 65. These slots 75 together with the groove 69 cause an increased magnetic resistance in the center plane of the sleeve 65 and thus an increased degree of magnetic isolation between the left and right ends of the sleeve.
Every second of the slots 75 transverse slots 77 are assigned. Further transverse slots 79, which extend axially through the part 59 and lie opposite the edge slots 81 of this part, are arranged in a stepped arrangement with respect to the transverse slots 77. The transverse slots 77, 79 and the slots 81 are all arranged axially, although certain deviations can be tolerated. The adjacent ends 83 of the slots 79 and the slots 81 overlap, seen in the peripheral direction, the two ends 85 of the slots 77. The slots 77, 79 and 81 serve to facilitate the distribution of flowable, magnetic material M, as described below becomes.
In the case of a magnetic coupling with a mean diameter of about 30 cm, for example, eight of these slots shown in Fig. 2 are used ver.
Conical, with the part 7 and 25 verbun dene deflectors 87 and 89 seal the outer part of the space between the parts 7 and 59 from. Further deflectors 91 and 93, which are connected to the hub 25, the NEN for sealing the space between tween the parts 59 and 17. The rivets 63 hold the deflectors 89, 91 and 93 in position. Additional seals for the bearings 27 and 23 are indicated in the figures with 95 and 97. The transition point 10 between the parts 7 and 9 is shaped in such a way that it forms an annular space 99.
The non-magnetic part 15 is also shaped in such a way that it forms an annular space 101.
In the chambers formed by the columns 71, 72, 73, 74 and spaces 99 and 101, a flowable magnetic mixture M is filled. This mixture can be of any known type. It must be flowable and of variable magnetic shear strength in order to be able to close the magnetic gaps between magnet parts that can move relative to one another when a magnetic field is generated. The magnetic material can be removed from the columns under the action of centrifugal force in order to empty them when the field is de-excited (Fig. 3).
For example, a mixture of dry, powdery, finely divided iron together with a correspondingly finely divided addition of graphite can be used, as is described, for example, in US Pat. No. 2,519,449. Of course, another suitable material can also serve the same purpose.
The amount of this finely divided material is chosen so that when the coil 43 is de-excited and the drive element 5 rotates, the mixture is displaced into the storage spaces 99 and 101 under the action of centrifugal force, as in FIG. 3 partly through the passages 75, 77, 79 and 81 and partly directly through the columns 71, 72, 73 and 74.
By exciting the coil 43, a ring magnetic field is generated, as indicated for example by the dashed lines F in FIGS. 1 and 4. This ring magnetic field surrounds the coil 43 and penetrates the gaps 71, 72, 73 and 74. This field magnetizes the finely distributed magnetizable particles of the material 1T by induction and pulls them into the gaps 71, 72, 73, 74. At the same time, it changes the shear strength the mass of the material 31. A rapid and even, axial and inwardly directed distribution of the particles through the openings 75, 77, 79 and 81 is achieved.
These openings preferably have dimensions in the transverse direction which are at least twice the thickness of the sleeve 65, so that the magnetic fraying phenomena that occur do not interfere with the free movement of the material through the openings. Following partial excitation, the field strength, which has not yet reached its maximum, creates a certain shear effect in the material 111 in its position shown in FIG. 4, so that the clutch works with slip.
When fully energized, the shear strength of the material M is sufficiently large to couple the drive and output parts 5 and 59 together in such a way that they rotate synchronously under full loading.
The non-magnetic ring 45, the intermediate space 103 between the punched pieces 33 and 35 and the peripheral grooves 69 and slots 75 prevent a short circuit of the ring field flux F both with respect to the punched pieces 33 and 35 and through the middle part of the ring 65 most of the field flux is deflected twice by the ring 65 and across the four columns 77, 72, 73 and 74, as can be seen from the drawing.
It is also noteworthy that the outer elements 37 and 39 are not. extend to the ends of the annular punching pieces 29, 31, 33 and 35. As a result, approximately the same material cross-section is achieved with a larger diameter, as with 0, through the cuts of only two elements 29 and 33 (or 31 and 35), as with a smaller mean diameter, for example with I, through three elements, for example through 31, 35 and 39 (or 29, 33, 37). As a result, a more uniform flux density is achieved in all cross sections of the magnetic material surrounding the coil in a ring shape. In other words, the iron in the river circle is optimally used, so that a minimal amount is enough.
The consequence of this is a weight reduction that can go so far that the elements 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39 can be manufactured as stamped pieces, which otherwise cannot. it is possible.
Another advantage of the magnetic coupling described is that the length of the magnetic circuit is kept to a minimum, although it contains four magnetic gaps. The reason for this is that these columns are assigned to a single sleeve 65, instead of several such sleeves, as has already been proposed. In addition, the four columns receive the field flux from a single coil.
While this coil must be made larger for a given capacity than a single coil for a two-gap clutch, this is not possible. so far that their ampere-turns and their weight have to be doubled in order to achieve the same capacity as two of the aforementioned couplings, each of which has two columns which are assigned to a single sleeve. The material to be covered by the magnetic material Clear away from the memory 99 and 101 to their effective points within the columns 71, 72, 73, 7.1 is significantly shortened.
The consequence of this is a faster action of the coupling following excitation or de-excitation. The increased magnetic resistance of the four columns connected in series also favors a quick opening of the coupling by reducing the remanence of the magnetic circuit.
As is readily understandable, under special circumstances, instead of the embodiment described, in which the parts connected to the element 1 are the driving parts and the parts connected to the shaft 3 are driven, this could. drive and output arrangement are reversed. Likewise, the arrangement of the field parts and the cylinder 9 with respect to the sleeve 65 can be reversed.
With regard to the slots 77, 79 and 81 it should also be noted that the mentioned width of not less than twice the value of the thickness of the sleeve serves the purpose of rapid entry of the magnetic material into the gaps following excitation, as well as rapid exit of the material from these gaps following an aberration. The slots 75 are preferably of the same width, but this is less important since these slots are not primarily used to improve the free movement of the material M.
As mentioned earlier, these slots 75 mainly serve to prevent the magnetic circuit h 'from being short-circuited by the sleeve 65, since such a short-circuit could impair the magnetization in the gaps 72 and 73.
