14b ein Kühlmittel, beispielsweise Was ser.
Evaporative Cooling Device The present invention relates to a cooling device utilizing the heat of evaporation of a coolant.
The currently used cooling systems either use a flow of coolant that flows around the surfaces to be cooled and removes heat from the same, or a coolant that boils at low temperature is liquefied in a condenser and evaporated on the surfaces to be cooled with heat removed.
While the former system usually requires a large amount of coolant, which requires considerable effort, the latter system requires complicated and extensive apparatus.
It is also known that heat is extracted from the environment by evaporation of a liquid coolant at normal atmospheric pressure, but this principle, which can be implemented with simple means, has so far mostly only been used for so-called sprinkler coolers.
The present invention relates to such an evaporative cooling device and is characterized by an evaporation apparatus in which a liquid coolant passes through a space which encloses a part to be cooled, in which space there is approximately atmospheric pressure and through which a gas flows in countercurrent to the coolant moves, whereby the evaporation of the coolant in the gas stream cools the space mentioned,
and further characterized by a device serving both for the adsorption and for the recovery of the coolant carried by the gas stream as vapor.
The invention is described in more detail below in an exemplary embodiment with reference to the accompanying schematic drawing.
In the illustrated Ausführungsbei, a part of the tube 1 is to be cooled, for example to condense a steam stream in the same. This pipe 1 to be cooled is arranged vertically and surrounded by a further jacket pipe 2 which forms a boiler and which is closed at the upper and lower ends, ie forms a closed space 3.
Through this space 3, in which approximately atmospheric pressure prevails, a constant gas stream is passed, for example air or another suitable gas, which is fed through the control valve 4 and the pipe socket 5 at the lower end of the jacket tube 2 and the space 3 via the upper pipe liner 6 leaves. Through the control valve 4, the amount of gas flowing through the space 3 can be set to a desired value.
The liquid coolant is fed through the control valve 7 to a perforated pipe 1 to be cooled at the upper end around the closing ring pipe 8 and flows from there mainly along the wall of the pipe 1 to be cooled downwards. At the lower end of the space 3, the non-evaporated part of the coolant collects and is diverted via the pipe socket 9, preferably to a reservoir (not shown) from which the supply line leading to the valve 7 is fed via a coolant pump (not shown).
The desired evaporation of liquid coolant within the space 3 can be increased by finely distributing the coolant over as large an area as possible. For this purpose, the space 3 between the pipe 1 and the jacket 2 is expediently provided with so-called Ra- schig rings or filled with similar bodies, as known from distillation and rectification technology.
Furthermore, the jacket 2, -to avoid undesirable heat absorption from the environment, expediently with an insulating layer 10, for example made of cork, surrounded.
The strength of the evaporation depends on the vapor pressure of the liquid coolant in the gas atmosphere in space 3. If a stream of air is passed through the space 3, carbon tetrachloride, for example, is recommended as a liquid coolant, since this substance has a high level of vapor pollution in air at normal atmospheric pressure.
Since the evaporation also depends on the degree of saturation of the gas flowing through the space 3, which in turn is determined by the flow velocity of the same, the cooling effect can be influenced by the control valve 4 for the gas flow and set to a desired value. Instead of carbon tetrachloride and an air stream, other suitable coolants can also be used together with an air or gas stream. In the simplest case, water can also be used as a coolant and an air stream.
The gas emerging from the space 3 at the pipe socket 6 is enriched with vaporous coolant and is fed to a recovery device for the coolant. In the present embodiment, for example, this device consists of two similarly constructed adsorption vessels Ilca and 11b, to which the exhaust gas from the pipe clip 6 is fed alternately via the valves 1,9a and 19b.
Each of the boilers 11a and 11b is double-walled, and a coolant, such as water, flows through the intermediate space 12a or 12b from the line 13 via the shut-off valve 14a or 14b. The boiler room 15a or 15b is provided with an adsorbent for the coolant vapor to be recovered from the. Exhaust gas filled, for example with activated carbon.
Furthermore, there is a heating element 16a or 16b in each adsorption tank, here for example an electric heating rod that can be connected to a power source 18 via the switch 17a or 17b.
During operation of the cooling device, for example, the valve 19a is open and 19b closed, so the exhaust gas flows from the pipe socket 6 through the boiler 11a, is freed from the coolant vapor there by adsorption and leaves the boiler 11a via the open valve 20a, from where the rei Necessary gas is fed back into the circuit or, if an air stream is used, discharged outside. The boiler lla does not need to be cooled for adsorption operation,
therefore the valve 14a is closed. The heating element 16a is also out of operation, that is to say the switch 17a is open. The adsorbent in the boiler room 15a is enriched with the adsorbed coolant, so that after a certain period of operation the boiler content has to be regenerated.
It is assumed that the boiler 11b, which is separated from the exhaust gas flow via the closed valve 19b, needs to be regenerated. For this purpose, the heating element 16b is connected to the power source 18 via the switch 17b, i.e. the adsorbent in the boiler interior 15b is heated, while at the same time a flow of cooling water is passed through the gap 12b via the open valve 14b.
The adsorbed coolant evaporates from the adsorbent, for example activated carbon, condenses on the cooled inside wall of the boiler, leaves the boiler 11b via the open valve 21b and is fed to the coolant circuit. In order to avoid losses, the valve 20b is closed.
Since two adsorption vessels are provided, the cooling device can be kept in operation continuously, while the vessels 11a and 11b work alternately as adsorption or recovery devices for the coolant.
As already mentioned, the gas flow and thus the cooling effect on the pipe 1 can be regulated by the valve 4. This regulation can also take place fully automatically in that the regulating valve 4 is actuated by a control device 22, which in turn can be influenced by a temperature sensor 24 on the pipe 1 to be cooled. This makes it possible to automatically maintain a selectable cooling temperature on tube 1.
