Low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp The invention relates to a low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp which is provided with a luminous layer for converting the radiation generated by the discharge into light.
Discharge lamps of the aforementioned type have long been known and are often used because of the diverse possibilities that they offer, especially with regard to the high degree of efficiency that can be achieved when converting electrical energy into radiation.
By choosing suitable phosphors and their mixture, practically any spectral distribution of the emitted light can be achieved. A mixture of two phosphors, that is, one that emits red radiation of more than about 6000 A and one with a radiation of between 4500 and 6000 A, is usually used. A mixture often used is z. B. a halide phosphate, which is mixed with cadmium borate or with calcium silica.t activated by lead and manganese.
These known light substances only convert the line with a wavelength of 2537 A of the radiation emitted by the discharge into light. As is well known, the mercury vapor discharge at low pressure has, in addition to a strong maximum at 2537 A, some weaker maxima, including at 3650 and 4358 A. Most of the known substances that are used in a low-pressure mercury vapor discharge tube have the disadvantage that they do the radiation with a; Do not absorb a wavelength of 3650 A at all, so that the energy of this radiation is completely lost. The line at 4358 A is also not absorbed.
This is not a direct loss as this line is in the visible part of the spectrum, but this line gives the emitted light an undesirable blue-purple shade. If, as usual, a white light source is to be obtained, this excess of blue radiation can be compensated for by using a large amount of a component that emits the complementary yellow-green radiation. However, this measure is not sufficient because the blue radiation is not suppressed. As a result, the color rendering of yellow and orange objects is poor, since they strongly absorb the blue-violet line, so that the excess of yellow-green radiation is very noticeable.
As a result, the yellow and orange shades show an unpleasant discoloration towards the green. The use of a filter that does not let the deep blue radiation through is a sufficient help. Such a filter can e.g. B. provided on or in the tube wall who the. It goes without saying, however, that the manufacture of the lamp becomes more complex and thus more expensive as a result.
A special red phosphor has recently become known, namely with. Manganese activated magnesium arsenate, in which the molar ratio between magnesium oxide and arsenic pentoxide is between 4: 1 and 10: 1. It is a remarkable substance because it not only emits the desired deep red radiation, but also absorbs radiation with a wavelength of 4358 A well and converts it into red radiation with high efficiency.
With the help of a mixture of this substance and another, a radiation between 4500 and 6000 A emitting phosphor could. that is, a gas discharge lamp can be assembled which has a very uniform spectral light distribution and in which the obstructive blue-violet radiation does not occur.
It has been found that when using a mixture of magnesium arsenate and another phosphor z. B. a Halo genidphospha.t the following difficulties occur: The magnesium arsenate has a quantitative efficiency, which depends on the manganese content and has a maximum between 5 X 10-4 and 10 X 10-3 Manga.n- atom per Magnesiuma.tom. Furthermore, the absorption of radiation with a wavelength of 4358 A increases, the greater the content of the passage.
It goes without saying. it he wishes the quantitative efficiency of a discharge lamp as much as possible. increase; The condition for this is therefore the manganese content at which the maximum is achieved. It has been shown that a sufficient absorption of the radiation with the wavelength of 4358 A can only be achieved by using a large amount of magnesium arsenic. In this way there is also a high intensity of the emitted red radiation. If the light emitted by the lamp is to have a white color that is customary in practice, a large amount of that phosphor must also be used.
that delivers radiation of less than 6000 A. This therefore leads to a discharge lamp with a large amount of phosphor, which is uneconomical.
The invention aims to produce a low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp with a minimum amount of phosphor.
A low-pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp according to the invention has a light-permeable wall, the inside of which is coated with a luminous layer which, when excited by the radiation emanating from the discharge, emits radiation between 4500 and 6000 A and we sentlichen is characterized in that between the mentioned luminous layer and the wall there is a second layer of luminescent material consisting of magnesium arsenate that lights up red,
in which the molar ratio between magnesium oxide and arsenic pentoxy d is between 4: 1 and 10: 1 and which is activated with an amount of manganese which is between 1 X 1 "and 10 X 10-3 Atom per mass of esium atom.
There. the Magnesiumarsena.t no longer with. the other light is mixed and forms a special layer, the thickness of this layer can be chosen so that the absorption of the blue-violet mercury line with a wavelength of 4358 A has the desired value. At this strength, the magnesium arsenate emits a certain amount of red rays and, depending on this amount, the amount of the other phosphor is selected in such a way that the desired overall spectral distribution is achieved.
Using a practical embodiment, the advantages of the invention will be explained below, for example.
Magnesium arsenate activated with manganese is used as the phosphor, in which the molar ratio Mg0: As205 = 6: 1 and in which the manganese content is 8 X 10-3 atoms per magnesium atom. The second phosphor is apatite with the formula 3 Cas (P0,1) 2. Ca (F, Cl) 2: Mn -f- Sb is used, in which the ratio F: Cl is 4: 1 and the amount of manganese and the amount of antimony is 0.09 or 1.0 weight percent.
When designing the discharge lamp to be manufactured, it is assumed that the absorption of the line with a wavelength of 4358 A z. B. should be 66%. This needs. about 2 mg of magnesium arsenate per square centimeter. It can then be further determined that for a certain, desired spectral distribution, the ratio between the quantities of halide phosphate and magnesium arsenate must be 4: 1.
From this it is calculated that while maintaining the established absorption of the blue mercury line of 4358 A, when mixing the halide phosphate and the magnesium arsenate, about 8 mg halide phosphate and 2 mg magnesium arsenate are required per square centimeter to be coated.
However, if the magnesium arsenate is applied in a homogeneous layer on the tube wall and a halide phosphate layer on top of this layer while maintaining all the requirements, the amount of magnesium arsenate required per square centimeter is 2 mg and the amount of halide phosphate required is 1 to 2 mg.
The result is that both the correct spectral distribution and the correct absorption of the blue mercury line with a wavelength of -1358 A can be achieved by using the invention by means of a significantly smaller amount of phosphor. It is of course also possible for the luminous layer, which extends over the magnesium arsenate layer on the inside of the lamp, to be composed of more than one luminophore. These substances can be mixed or applied in special shifts.
