Arrangement with at least one luminous capacitor It is known that some substances, in particular luminescent substances treated in a special way, u. a. Zinc sulphide, cadmium sulphide and their mixed crystals emit visible rays, even when exposed to an alternating electrical field.
On this. The phenomenon is based on the so-called luminous capacitors, which consist of two flat electrodes made of electrically conductive material, between which a thin layer of such an electroluminescent substance is applied as a dielectric. At least one of the electrodes is translucent:
The luminous capacitor emits light on the side of this electrode when there is an alternating voltage of sufficient strength, for example of a few hundred volts, between the electrodes.
In general: a practically usable electroluminescence only results if the frequency is relatively high, for example in the order of a few thousand Hz. As a result, direct connection to the electrical network is usually not possible. A ballast is therefore used that increases the mains frequency.
It can be a frequency multiplier or an oscillator provided with one or more amplifier tubes, which, if the network is an alternating current network, is fed with a rectified network voltage.
Such devices are involved. and have a low efficiency. The aim of the invention is to create an arrangement with at least one luminous capacitor, the supply device of which converts the mains voltage with a high degree of efficiency into alternating voltage of the most advantageous frequency and voltage by%. It can be used not only in AC voltage networks, but also in DC voltage networks.
The invention consists in the fact that the supply device contains an oscillator working with feedback, the frequency of which is mainly determined by a capacitance and a resistance. In this way, there is an alternating voltage with steeply rising wave flanks: which is very useful for feeding the luminous capacitors mentioned.
The oscillator can be immediate, i. H. without the interposition of a rectifier, from the alternating voltage network, z fed to who. It has been found that the fact that the vibrations are periodically interrupted here does not mean any disadvantage for achieving a device that is advantageous in practice.
Inductive feedback is preferably used, with self-induction in three-point connection with the anode, the control grid and:
the cathode of a steered discharge tube, and the control grid is connected via a capacitance to one end of the self-induction and via a resistor to the cathode, the various elements being dimensioned so that the frequency generated is mainly due to the capacitance and the resistance mentioned thing is.
The luminous capacitor 'can be switched on as a capacitance parallel to the self-induction or a part of this self-induction.
In order to adapt different luminous capacitors to the device in the most advantageous way possible, it is desirable to use the self-induction. to be provided with a number of taps, wherein the cathode of the tube can be optionally connected to one of these taps by means of a switching element.
If the luminous capacitor has a large surface, it can be advantageous to subdivide it into a number of compartments which are connected in series. In this case it is also often easier to achieve a good match for the high frequencies.
The cathode can be heated directly in that it is also connected directly to the alternating current network in series with a suitable capacitor.
Embodiments of the arrangement according to the invention are explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing.
1 shows a simple circuit of the power supply unit. The luminous capacitor is denoted by 1. It is connected in parallel to the self-induction 3, which is in three-point connection with the anode,
the control grid and the cathode of the triode 2 acting as an oscillator is connected. The self-induction 3 can be supplied by a coil with a core of almost non-electrically conductive magnetic Ma terials; the tap 4 is connected to one of the mains terminals 8 and at the same time via a capacitor 6, with one end of the cathode, which also acts as a filament, of the triode.
The other end of the cathode is connected to the other power terminal. It is assumed that the network is an AC voltage network. One end of the coil 3 is directly connected to the anode and the other end via a capacitor 5 Kon with the control grid of the triode. A resistor 7 is connected between this grid and the left end of the cathode. The cathode can also be heated indirectly.
The various switching elements are dimensioned so that the generated frequency is not dependent on the parallel connection of the self-induction and the capacitance of the luminous capacitor,
Son countries of the capacitance of the capacitor 5 and the resistor 7 is determined. For this purpose, the capacitance of the capacitor 5 should be selected to be smaller than in the usual three-point circuit. An advantageous dimensioning of the various elements is the following:
R7 - 5-50 kSZ C5 --- 500-5000 pF L; = 1Henry 01 = 500-5000 pF; C 6 = 0.5, uF.
The generated frequency is between 500 and 10000 Hz.
If the capacitance of the capacitor 5 is selected to be sufficiently large, a frequency is generated. Which is mainly due to the self-induction 3 and the capacitance 1.
If the device is supplied with AC voltage, interruptions in the oscillations caused by the resistance and the capacitance occur during half the period in which the voltage at the anode is negative. If the switching elements are advantageously dimensioned, these vibrations occur almost during the entire time that the anode is positive.
For some time after these vibrations have ceased, however, vibrations still occur in circuit 1, 3, the frequency of which is determined by the self-induction and the capacity of the illuminated panel.
In FIG. 2, line a represents the curve shape of the supply voltage generated, as it is when the anode has a sufficiently high, positive voltage.
Towards the end of the positive half period, this curve changes into curve b, which represents a damped oscillation, the frequency of which is determined by the self-induction and the capacitance of the luminous capacitor. This remains in effect for a short time after the zero crossing. The curve c is the almost sinusoidal envelope.
It has been found that the peak-shaped voltage a with steep edges is advantageous for electroluminescence. The effective value of the generated voltage can be 200 V with a supply voltage of 220 V, 50 Hz.
Fig. 3 shows a circuit in which the luminous capacitor 1 is connected between the anode of the tube and the cathode lead directly connected to the network.
The voltage of the oscillator frequency effective at the luminous capacitor is here somewhat lower than in the circuit according to FIG. On the other hand, however, the mains voltage of 50 Hz is always above the luminous capacitor. This results in less flickering, while the luminous capacitor continues to glow even when the triode is omitted, albeit with less intensity.
If, in addition, a switch 9 is inserted into the filament line, the triode can be switched off, the mains voltage remaining effective on the luminous capacitor and the latter still lighting up with a lower intensity.
4 shows a symmetrical circuit with two alternately effective oscillator tubes 11 and 12. The filaments are fed with alternating current of the mains via two identical capacitors 15 and 16 connected in series. The luminous capacitor is connected between the anodes. The coils 13 and 14 can be wound on a common core. In this case, see Avoid almost all flicker.
Devices never described have the advantage that they consist of standardized parts and take up very little space.
