Fluid meter
The present invention relates to a fluid meter (water, gas, air or vapor) comprising a housing in which is rotatably mounted a rotor actuating a meter mechanism.
This fluid meter is characterized in that this rotor has blades arranged in two coaxial helices of opposite pitches and situated on either side of a tubular wall, while being integral in rotation with said rotor, the blades forming the inner propeller being mounted on the hub of the rotor, in that this meter further comprises two annular inlet and outlet conduits, one of which has for diameters the inner and outer diameters of the inner propeller, the other, those of the outer propeller, the two orifices of these ducts being in the same plane located on one side of the rotor, each of these ducts and each propeller being traversed by the total flow, and in that a deflection member of the flux, located on the other side of the rotor, puts the outlet of one of the propellers into communication with the inlet of the other propeller.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention, which is a water meter.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of the rotor and of the part containing the latter.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of this counter.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the axis of the inlet and outlet pipes.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section showing a so-called braking device.
In fig. 1, index 1 designates the meter housing; 2, a lower part connected to this housing and forming a bearing for a pivot 3 of a rotor, and 4, an upper part fixed to this housing and forming a bearing for a pivot 5 of this rotor.
The rotor comprises a hub 6 which is connected, by vanes 7, to a coaxial tube 8; the latter has blades 9 directed outwards.
The vanes 7 and 9 are arranged in helices of opposite pitches.
The operation of the rotor is as follows
The water arrives through passages 10 presented by the bearing 2; these passages are arranged at equal distances from the rotor. The fluid then moves inside the tube 8 comprising the helical vanes 7 whose pitch is to the right, for example. The fluid returns, thanks to the chamber 11, outside the tube and acts on the vanes 9, the pitch of which is to the left; it then goes through passages 12.
The rotor is therefore subjected to two coaxial currents, one peripheral, the other internal, each of these currents causing the rotor to rotate in the same direction; thus the two engine torques are added as if the two propellers were placed end to end.
The axial thrusts on the rotor are thus substantially balanced and do not cause significant forces on the pivots, the friction is therefore low and this allows the use of small-sized pivots.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the water meter comprising the rotor shown in FIG. 1. The housing 1 of this meter comprises an inlet pipe 13 and an outlet pipe 14. The bearing 2 is integral with the housing bottom. A semi-tubular part 15 separates, in the bottom of the housing, the inlet passages, which are open towards the pipe 13, from the outlet passages in communication with the pipe 14.
A part 16, arranged on a lower surface of the housing, has intermediate cavities 11. This part 16 constitutes an inversion member. The rotor is pivoted, by its pivot 5, on a plate 4 held rigidly on the housing, for example by means of a seal 17, the glass 18 and the screwed cover 19.
The operation of such a meter is as follows: the water arrives through the pipe 13, is distributed in the passages 10, rises in the central part of the rotor, inside the tube 8, by acting on the propeller 7 , it is returned downwards by the cavities 11, goes down again outside the tube 8 by acting on the vanes 9 and exits through the space 12, towards the outlet pipe 14.
The rotor comprises, like all counters of this type, a pinion actuating, by gear wheels, a clockwork mechanism whose position of the hands or rollers can be read through the glass 18.
The meter is very small in size and has a low cost price; a further advantage is that the housing can be die-cast, both of metal and of suitable plastic material.
Fig. 4 shows, in the return cavities 11, a so-called arm braking device 21, integral with a ring 20, forming baffles thanks to which the flow of water which has passed through the first propeller and which changes direction in the cavities 1 1 undergoes a braking effect of its vortices. The ring 20 guides the jet and the amount of braking depends on the number and height of the arms 21.
The rotor can be horizontal or vertical axis; it may include any number of blades, each blade possibly having the pitch, a multiple or a fraction of the pitch as its height; the outer propeller and the inner propeller may be of different height and pitch, or have a different number of blades.
